Is anyone actually happy with DbD right now?

It feels like the past year has just made both sides more and more miserable. I can't really think of any changes that have happened lately that I've been excited for. Is it just me? Or do others feel the same.

The game is far more balance with the DH, infinite healing, and infinite regression nerf.....but am i happy NO SIR!!

Dead hard was way more fun to play against in my opinion. I actually had input and could bait to a certain exstent. now It just hold w fest with all these Sprint bursts everywhere. I get close to have some fun with the survivors and bam (zoom) they speed off BORING zzzzzzzz. When i play survivor everyone run sloppy so u constantly one tap or u get unlucky and be the survivor who get camp. Just boring all around. Less looping, more gen rushing, more pre dropping, more gens flying, More ruthless tactics, etc. I'm just ranting tho

    I’m pretty happy tbh

The only major issue I have is maps and solo queue. Otherwise perk variety is pretty good and I’ve actually enjoyed the most recent chapter and archive

I've started last year during the anniversary, and since then I've only seen BHVR try (albeit sometimes awkwardly) to make the game feel better to play.

Since I've joined, there's been basekit BT, queue incentives, anonymous mode, obnoxious perks nerfed, survivor HUD, bloodweb improvement, map repeat prevention, self-heal nerf.

Okay, there's been a couple underwhelming chapters. That's for sure.

So far into 6.7, so good on my part. I'm happy with it at the moment. I think we're one toolbox nerf and one map offering rework away from a good place balance-wise.

Sadly i have to agree. Since the big update last july the amout of miserable games has increased very much for me (especially hardcore tunneling at the bginning of the game) and by increasing gen time you can just camp with no punishment if you use Pain Res and Deadlock. A game where you get rewarded for making the other side feel miserable is hard to play sometimes.

My solo escape rate pre-6.1 was higher than it is now. I accepted the decrease, knew they wanted to increase kill rates and solo would be the side to do that. So yeah, it was disappointing to yet again have an update several months later that disproportionately affected solo players. Two meh chapter releases in a row hasn't helped.

On the positive side, 2022 brought us Sadako, Dredge, and Wesker's chapters, which I enjoyed. The HUD update was a nice breath of fresh air too.

I enjoy the game so far, soloQ here, yes sometimes it's frustrating due to some killers' behaviour, and I DC once in a while out of spite (don't judge me, y'all do that).

I consider myself lucky, I rarely play against sluggers or campers, I got 2k+ hours on this game but I am trash in chases, I mostly win chases if the killer is worse than I

As for the meta surv perks, I never used DH (always bad timing) or COH (booning is too long, you are supposed to repair, not bloody dancing in front of a totem), so I don't see any differences. I was happy though when they removed the "incapacited" on Eruption, because this was obnoxious.

Regarding the items and medkits nerfs, I am a cheapskate, i got hundreds of medkits and others objects but never use them, because each time I bring something when I need to do a challenge (even the party streamers), either some survs DC or the killer camps me. So their nerf, don't annoy me, We'll make it is part of my basekit

The kick nerf, DH nerf, Nurse nerf, med-kit nerf, and adding a HUD have been phenomenal changes.

I would say the game is in a good state currently, with room to improve. Would like to see more fresh mechanics like scourge hooks or killers that are strong and fun for both sides(Demo/Wesker). Outside that it would be nice if they revisit camping/tunneling along with killer early game and try to improve in those areas.

Other than the blood web changes which is good, then no every patch is constant survivor nerf, lost count of how many friends normal or streamer friends who stopped playing, I myself stream and use to steam and play this game tons of time even after doing my full time day job. Now that went to almost 1 streaming every 3 or so week and playing maybe 1 day in a entire week. If 3 sweaty games in a row I just play something else. Survivor is impossible with solo que and since I lost major of my swf where we may at least have a better chance of survivor its just eh at this point.

I really appreciate bloodweb rework. This was huge for me. Survivor's activity icons are great too.

There are tons of other QoL changes I would like to see though. Autopicking new quests, Survivor bloodpoints reward rework, clearer perk descriptions, adding communication phrases for survivors.

I would not mind if new Chapters were released slower but we could see more of QoL changes.

I too am a item hoarder lol and barely use them on my p100 leon, slowly working on making yoichi p 100 but with lil how I play now though that maybe awhile. I have 260 party streamers and refuse to touch a single one since 6.1 for the very reasons you said, rage quitting baby survivors or sweaty/tunnely/camping/killers. If I do use an item its just usually a brown one cause this obnoxious perk call franklins demise, then killers get pissy when people last second switch their chars.

All the useful survivor perks which I wont bother list all gutted even though said perks the killer had perks and things to counter those perks. Would not be surprised if lithe , distortion, inner healing is the next complaint to be nerfed.

Other than the usual burnout, I’m fine with it. Sure, I’d like some new, interesting and fun mechanics introduced into the game, but I don’t think it’s as bad as everyone (on either side) is complaining it is.

The game is pretty balanced apart from a few outliers.

I usually play on weekends until I finish all the challenges of the current level, after that, I play fewer and fewer until the next level comes out.

The Tomes are a great thing to keep my interest in the game, playing with our FOMO was a great move from BHVR.

Yes most people are very happy with the game. The forums are where unhappy people come to vent. Spend time in any games forum community and you'll be bombarded with "us vs them" posts and claims that the game is dying. Play the game and have fun. I usually come here to laugh at how dramatic people can be.

It’s hard to balance an asymmetrical game as there’s a lot of people that only play one side and will always mass complain if their side gets changed even if it’s for the better. This makes it very hard for the devs to actually commit to strong game changes on either side. So we’re left with just small tweaks that never actually fix the core issues.

  • pseudechis
    pseudechis Member Posts: 3,904

The game is still good and fun.

People complain about the same things they always complain about and you can’t go by the forums because this is the place people come to complain.

So complaining is a lil over represented here.

Last release was a bit weak though and I can’t say I’m a big fan of it.

I’m not lying when I say I reached Iri 1 on both surv AND killer In just under 2 week’s time since the new patch.

Of course I play DBD a lot maybe 4-5 hours late day/evening , more on the weekends, but still… before it would take me almost an entire month to do that.

Killer is still frustrating at times but when I’m demolishing survs at night , well, I can’t complain lol (no offense, survs!)

It’s SO nice to get downs now , especially early, without everyone running DH. In the past 2 weeks since the new patch I’ve had like 2 survs running DH.

I do see some games with CoH but it’s not the toothache it once was.

So yes Killer still somewhat stressful but not at all like it once was years ago or even prior to the new patch!

Now all I ask if they can just get rid of depipping! 😊

I don't entirely know where I land. I like it overall I think but skull merchant and knight are just not fun to face as a survivor and aren't really fun to play as with killer to me.

The usual DCing survivors get old. I played a couple games as doctor this morning and both included several survivors dcing on my very first down so that's frustrating.

Losing out on pips because people DC is extra frustrating or having a person gifted hatch because a teammate dced is also frustrating.

Survivor is in a healthier spot overall to me. Killer does seem in a good spot overall as well. I think overall I'm happy but there are some longstanding annoyances that are getting a bit old

6.6.2 was really good, the best state of the game to my mind. Less tunneling, better gen management tools for the killers.

6.7.0 broke it and shifted the balance of the game completely. Ultra gen rush, insta-heal medkit or 8 seconds heal perks and all gen regression tools have been destroyed. Huge tunneling from killers.

The state of the game is awfull and MMR does not help at all. I think the MMR kind of killed the fun. Prior to MMR, there were a big variety in the trials i had, now it's a try hard fest on both sides in every game.

Overall I’m pretty happy with the game. I still have fun in most of my matches. I still play it far more than any other game I own.

My main complaints are 1) devs sometimes don’t provide any response on game breaking issues (see recent Merciless Storm bug and refusal to kill switch or even explain why it wasn’t kill switched) and 2) game remains incredibly unbalanced on both the low MMR end (heavily favors killers) and on the high MMR end (heavily favors survivors). The are plenty of ways to build balance into the game, but I suspect BHVR won’t do it because they are afraid of losing their high level SWF players.

The only things I'm not happy with are Knight, Skull Merchant, and all the perks that came out with their chapters bar 3 (Nowhere to Hide, Blood Rush, and Background Player).

Everything else game related I'm pretty happy with, though the updates to old content could use some speeding up and reprioritization. (Blight add-on nerfs, Twins rework, more add on-passes in general, especially for Billy, Pyramid Head, Freddy, Nemesis...)

  • EvilSerje

    Probably not.

Survivor part was pain and trash before, now it's even worse. All dead at 5 gens - usual stuff.

For killer.... Also spiraled downwards. No need for any mindgames without DH, just bulldoze through. SWF teams just rush gens (can't balame them), solo's just fall apart like cards.

No, I think it is more unfun for all sides (it was unfun for survivor before, now everything like level down)

The only major issue I have right now is matchmaking in solo queue. The game is fine on killer and in a 4 man SWF. Solo teammate skill varies way, way, way too much to the point that games feel pointless and unfun. I haven't played solo queue in 4 days and no XP multiplier will make me do it. Not until they make meaningful changes to matchmaking.

My biggest problem is the recent update resulted in a severe drop in game performance, DbD runs pretty awful right now. But other than that, I've been pretty content with the updates, balance changes, and QOL tweaks. Yeah, Tools of Torment was a big miss and it's lame that it gets a Tome immediately while my favorite characters are ignored, but whatever.

Overall I'm fine. Game is evolving in a healthier direction, but there's still more work to be done.

I don't like the game because of how ridiculously hard solo queue is. The OVERALL escape rate including SWFs is only 39% to begin with and that's without games with disconnects being counted. The solo escape rate can't be higher than 25-30% at best. It gets old losing and makes you not want to play as much. Meanwhile I can go on killer and easily maintain an 80% win rate despite not being an amazing killer. I used to occasionally play with two other people but they both quit because of how unfun survivor became.

No every round is a sweat fest. I play casual as killer and survivor (no meta perks, no strond Items/Addons), bbut every round as killer is like 4 BNPs, 4 Insta Heals, Map offering. Its complett trash playing killer at the moment. Same as Survivor 7 Tunneling Slugging Nurses in a row.

    But overall, it's not horrible.

Pretty happy with most of the changes and with the E key changes ######### that perk. Never should a perk be so prevalant that you wait behind EVERY SINGLE PERSON first chase because of the threat of E on the role that's more time crunched. All thought it seemingly made people predrop 600% more because they can't have a false cushion of a third health state on button press.

I've been a big fan of this game and currently at 1300 hours. Play it every day, essentially. However, this last patch absolutely gutted playing my main Ghostface. Gen regression is the only thing keeping m1 killers with no chase power or map pressure afloat as they can recover for their ridiculous crap they have to deal with in chases. Now you're going to lose 1 or 2 gens per chase. It's not bad on low to mid MMR, but high MMR, you always have someone just tailing you at all times breaking you out of stealth.

It has made my most fun and thematic killer an absolute drag....and I can't play stealthy anymore. He literally doesn't have the time to set up killers anymore. Legit thinking of retiring from DBD at this point.

The constant camping and tunneling whenever I play as survivor is a real bummer. Shame the devs won't do anything about it.

It because everytime something gets nerfed that side seems to turn up the sweat and since the last few patches has had nerfs to both sides each one is sweating harder. Medkits got nerfed so survivors are equipping toolboxes and gen perks and Regression got nerfed so killers are just camping and tunneling more even I've noticed most my matches have had some form of tunneling and camping right away.

Not having dh makes survivor much more boring. No I don't even think it was OP, but it was more fun. Sprint burst and lithe is guaranteed value but you just hold w.

Ive been having an absolute blast playing Killer.

I do enjoy Survivor, just not as much as I did a year or so ago.

Id say my main issue is that SBMM has just really made my options feel limited, it feels like Im forced to play optimally as Survivor to have any fun, and a single mistake can cost me the game, which has made it much more stressful. Meanwhile, for Killer, since I have some agency in what happens, it feels a lot more relaxing, I can just have fun without worrying.

6.7 Made the game feel a ton less annoying which is truly awesome, but gen completion speed is still pretty nutty.

Imo, people should not be able to crank the gens so fast that there's barely any gameplay.

My steam 2 weekly average has dropped from 150+ to less than 30.

I used to buy the 12500 auric cell packs every few months. I havent bought any in a year.

I hate the state of the game right now.

Why do I still play it you ask? Not much else to play. When diablo 4 comes out, I think ill be switching to that unless things dramatically change.

DBD needs to go back to 2018 - 2020 version imo.

I just find it tedious, arduous, and flat-out frustrating to play anymore. Like, not enjoyable at all. Winning feels meaningless to me on either side and I don't feel that same challenge that used to be there.

I also don't find it to be a simple coincidence that the less enjoyable this game is made to be, the more jerks I seem to come across on both sides that just want to make the game miserable.

I have yet to uninstall and make the official airport announcement in the general chat. Though, I will probably not be playing solo Q anymore and simply retire to the forums to be old and cranky while also reminiscing about the glory days when this game was a broken mess like some of our other pre-2019 DBD vets.

There are just way too many other good games to choose from and Summer 2023 already has even more interesting games lined up.

Since coming back I'm having a good time. Game feels good with the last few updates. I have both 4k and 0k games so it feels pretty well balanced my end. Maps is the only issue i really have. The invisible obstructions on some of the junk when playing huntress or Billy can be infuriating, but aside from that... Great times.

I can DM more if needed. Here's a short list of recommendations in no particular order.

Elden Ring - Gameplay speaks for itself

Divinity: Original Sin 2 - The story is solid and the gameplay is unmatched. You can build your team in so many different ways too. Currently running with a Death Knight, Juggernaut, Elemental Mage, and Rogue.

Nobunaga's Ambition: Sphere of Influence - Ascension - This one over Taishi, which is the more recent release that downgraded features.

Dark Souls 1-3. Refer to Elden Ring above.

Re4 Remake/ Re4 - Honestly, both are great and have tons of replayability.

Diablo 2 Resurrected - Just picked up a copy of this on sale to hold me over until D4. They really did well with this one. Still has that classic D2 feel and it's getting dev support with the ladders each season. The new season ladder brought MA Assassin to S-tier, which has been fun. Hammerdin still fun as usual and Sorc.

Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection - Underrated series imo and a steal for the price. This is a pretty comprehensive collection as it comes with 10 games.

Hogwarts Legacy - The definitive Harry Potter game of the current generation. Though, that isn't saying much 😅

Deep Rock Galactic - Molly carries minerals and we shoot bugs and mine. Dwarf life in a nutshell.

Earth Defence Force 5 - They made it to 5, so they must be doing something right.

Nioh 1/2 - Both are great

Ghost of Tsushima - Also a great game
