Why does basement still exist?

The basement exists because there are certain places that are ridiculously strong, and the possibility of being in the hardest to escape from place in the game puts a risk factor on it.

Anyone who's played the game for a while knows that the killer shack is one of the strongest loops on the map, and maps like Badham and Garden of Joy needs to have SOMETHING that makes using the strongest loops in the game have some risk.

Well imo I think basements need a little rework to them rather than removing them all together

I would like to see a 2 way into the basement but only one way out that being the stairs and the other way would be a enter only like a trap door you can open to enter the basement but can’t go back out that way so the killer cant just camp the stairs when a survivor is hooked

This would be fun and add a bit of creepiness to the game.

They could even add an old dumbwaiter that goes through all floors of a building into basement, with both killers and survivors being able to use it.

i'd love seeing basement become nostalgia, admittedly it contributes a lot to the theme of the game. but for now they should *at the very least* somehow make reassurance applicable to basement hooks from above.
