How to enjoy dead by daylight again?

I played dbd for along time (around 2018) and to be honest, the game has got very boring, the only matches i enjoy is with pigs since they force you into a nice little minigame of removing the trap off your head, but then i start to find it boring getting into a game, doing gens, getting chased and sometimes pulling off 360's but thats basically all...there isn't anything new beside new killers that people complain about alot, and perks that get nerfed 2 weeks after it release its just getting very stale, i play both roles, i played every killer, every survs, mixed and matched perks, addons and many many more. i tend to find myself staring at the lobby bored not knowing what to do, so to those who played dbd for a long time and enjoy dbd even now, how do you do it? i love this game and im not ready to call quits yet.

thanks

I guess its settled, the most agreed method to enjoy dead by daylight again (or any online game) is to leave it for few months, so i guess im going to take a long break after im done with the rift, i really hope they add game modes and other stuff.

again, to everyone who took the time to help me out thank you, and i hope i see you in the fog later on, stay safe, stay happy.

I'm in the same boat. I legit sat here for 10 minutes trying to come up with a reply lol. Maybe you could try setting challenges for yourself, like trying to get Mettle of Man to proc or something. If you usually play solo, maybe try finding a squad to play with. That's all I got tbh.

In the same boat, im hoping the next chapter is the push that gets me to play again, just had zero motivation to even login lol.

When I get a bit bored, I try to go out of my way to use perks that I don't use very often and try to get use out of them.

For killers: try out new builds, maybe some meme builds, killers you don't usually play.

For survivor: try with friends, find new friends, whatever you need to do to get there. Playing solo is always going to be what it is, and either it's fun for you or it's not. With SWF, you bring your fun through social interaction.

For either: not saying you are, but; don't get triggered when you lose, learn to take a loss in your stride.

If you're really sat there staring at the lobby not feeling it, play something else. Take a break and come back when the funk has cleared and it'll feel a bit fresher. There's a lot of great games out/coming out this spring/summer, or try Meet Your Maker.

ill try to reply to each one in one comment

@Ghoste the amount of random stuff i did from playing with non survs perks, to no perks to metal of man to crawling build all of that i did if dbd had a challege list i'd be the first one to do em all, thanks for the reply though, i really hope dbd shift things

@Chordyceps been doing that before the meta even changed

@JustWhimsical i really hope so, the past chapters for me has been a big "eh" so i hope things change

@Seraphor i enjoy swfing with my mates but the thing is once you do something funny like having the same outfit on the same survs the killer will almost assume that we are a bully swf, most of these games happens with the killer trying their best like their life depend on it so we tend not to swf alot...for killers i did play every killer, with diff playstyles, camping bubba, space billy (rip) crouch only ghostface, gun only for deathslinger its just nothing sticks you know? on my years of playing dbd i took countless breaks, to be honest it helps me enjoy the game when im back but only for a few weeks maybe days then its just the same limbo again.

thank you all for taking the time to help me out, ill try to reply to more people if i get more replies. :)

Sometimes it's better to just take a break. I played Fortnite since the end of OG season four and played it for so long but it also became stale even with friends. I think I stopped playing it for around four months, I had lots of breaks in-between certain seasons though, and got back into it once the Star Wars event got introduced and had way more fun than usual. Fortnite gets way more frequent updates as well compared to Dead By Daylight but even I got bored of it. The past two original chapters have introduced arguably the worst killers in the game and I just took a break. I got back into playing later on and slowly remembered how to loop and the enjoyment was there for a while. I'm currently taking a break from it right now as well though.

Step 1. Play a different game.

Step 2. Repeat step 1 indefinitely

I think a big part of the draw to DBD for me is the progression system. If that’s something that doesn’t pull you in, then the feeling of accomplishment will be lacking after each match.

I’m working on finishing every tome and at least P6ing all survivors

    I only play with friends.

You can try to get value out of the some gimmicky builds or play and try to learn a killer you've always avoided. I'm in a similar situation. I've mained Billy for about a year and a half but I feel I've had too many bad games with him recently to not get frustrated, which is why switched to Blight.

It keeps the game fresh and exciting when you go for completely different plays and mind games all of a sudden. Maybe you'll have more fun doing that as well. If it doesn't work then consider taking a break. DBD is not going anywhere and it will still be here when you feel like playing it again.

    You don't 😂

You get excited to play cause it's been awhile 1,2,3,6,8,12 Months however long it's been.

Play for a couple days (give or take) see it's the same as the last time you play return to your break.

After doing p 100 leon, am doing yoichi atm whos at 40 now to 100, tbh after that I doubt amma aim for any 100 p survivor again unless he is a hottie, though vittorio was almost a pick ,maybe on work trickster/wesker next since those are my 2 main killers but eh once I hit my red 1, I tend to just tinker around with perks that I never ever would even touch with a 10 foot pole.

I think it's not the players,I think DBD has just changed into a much staler meta while removing any potential fun perks.

So,not much you can do. I recommend other games, they are a lot of fun. Hell, you've got the Bubba game to be excited for at the end of the day.

Honestly, tomes are good as they keep me engaged. Initially, I said completing them for survivors would be enough. Then I started doing the killer challenges and realised not all them were as difficult as they sounded. A couple of months ago I managed to complete entire pages and now I have one tome fully completed.

There are challenges I'll never complete (e.g. endgame sacrifices or hooks) as I'm not interested in the corresponding playstyle but I know I'm looking forward to the next and last page of the current tome tomorrow.

And as it was said above: experimenting is great! I started playing with killers I never wanted to. I thought properly hitting survivors with Nurse - and even with Hillbilly - would be impossible. I managed to have 3 or 4K with Twins. I only bought them because I had a lot of shards to spare.

I'll soon have a pause as the game is taking the toll on me.

I started achievement hunting. A lot of them really shake up how you need to play so it feels fresh. Besides, without skilled huntress forcing me to learn her I would have never found my main.

Taking breaks worked for me before but now I feel like I am done with the game for good. I just don't find it enjoyable.

I also feel like supporting companies or games that my views can align with. Bhvr is not that kind of company for me anymore.

I played this game on and off since 2018 and at least made some fun memories if nothing else.
