Can you assign the role of killer to a bot in custom game? (Also, what changed while I was gone?)
Just started playing again after a hiatus of four years. A lot has changed, so to say. I originally started playing at release, so, even when I was an active player, I had a hard time adjusting to the larger changes whenever they happened. Now that I've been gone four years with minimal check-ins, I'm pretty much completely new again. I quickly found that the game introduced bots at some point, which is nice, because I had been asking for them since 2017, and I've been using them to rid myself of some rust as killer in custom games. However, I don't seem to be able to do the same as survivor in custom game. It looks like the killer always has to be a person. So, most likely, the answer to my question is no, but I still wanted to ask, just in case.
Assuming the answer is no, what are some other ways I can de-rust myself as survivor, outside of official matches? And also, what is some information I should know, coming back? The reason I'm reluctant to jump right into matchmaking again is primarily because I've recovered much of my looping and escaping skills, but essentially nothing else. What I'm predominantly missing is knowledge of game mechanics and perks. So, if I enter matchmaking, what generally happens is that I run the baby killer far too long and far too hard, and eventually, I'll end up at my original rank, but still clueless as to how to handle the new killers and everything else that's changed. I've been told most the OG perks, meta and otherwise, have been drastically changed, but haven't actually gotten the specifics... So, yeah, please feel free to inform me of literally anything you feel is relevant!

Yeah the ranking systems a bit different now. Theres still 20 ranks in total, but their in groups of 5. In descending order, Ash -> Bronze -> Silver -> Gold -> Iridescent. If you meant MMR though i have no clue lol, got implemented a few years back and has been invisible since. But considering you just came from a 4 year hiatus, yours is probably in a lower bracket.
Heres a website to help you out --> https://otzdarva.com. Its got tier lists for everything, 4 different strong builds for each killer (including 4 soloQ builds and 4 builds for SWFs), and even a quiz to see which killer you'd like mosts. Hope it helps!
Yeah dead hard has had a... hard life this past year lol. Last years anniversary really shook up the meta by reworking 70 perks, one of which was DH. Back then, they just removed DH for distance so it could actually have counterplay and it fell out of the meta... for two weeks. Once people figured out how to use it it was back in full force with a 30% pickrate. It was completely unstoppable at pallets, because if you swung you got dhed and if you didnt you got stunned. So like 2 months ago they outright killed it.
I wanna elaborate a little on that unstoppable killer meta lol, the gen kick meta. So basically a perk called call of brine got released with sadako in the ring chapter, doubled kick regression nobody used it at the time because ruin was still good but after the nerf it was really popular. Then they buffed overcharge to ramp up to 200% speed regression, and buffed eruption. You are so lucky to have missed the eruption meta; when you kicked a gen, it would activate on it. When you downed a survivor, any gens afflicted will explode, losing 10% progress and giving any survs repairing them 25s incapacitated.
So basically, you had 300% regression along with eruption granting 40s per down. Gone now though thankfully, people would use the killers knight and skull merchant to make 3 gens unwinnable with these perks.
Heres a few things to look forward to by the way:
- Basekit anti facecamp
- Killer FOV slider
- nicolas cage midchapter
- anniversary (obviously)
- Hillbilly, trapper, freddy, and twins reworks. Hillbilly kinda got completely gutted while you were gone.
- new survivor items
theres barely any regression in the game now, so games dont really get drawn out for no reason most of the time. See you in the fog!

No, sadly the killer cant be assigned an AI. Killer is a lot more complex at face value than survivor, so its harder to program. Not to bash on survivor or anything, just that making each one know how to drop a pallet and have basekit windows of opportunity is easier than making a (challenging) killer AI.
But welcome back! I'm sure you'll be please to hear that dead hard is FINALLY dead, and you just barely dodged a recent killer meta that made gens unrepairable. enjoy playing some wesker.

Oof, guess I'll have to bite the bullet and just get back to my original survivor rank, and then hope my old perks and methods will do until I catch up! Did they change the ranking up system by any chance? I plan on trying to get out of the low ranks with as few games as possible, to, hopefully, avoid bothering the baby killers, but last time I played, I found that to be pretty difficult.
Regarding dead hard, I definitely did not see that coming, but at least now my love/hate relationship with it is also dead! Wesker will definitely be interesting, I'm curious to see how his perks will work on my favourite killers

Clarification and Correction
Skull Merchant was not released while Eruption offered incapacitated status. She only got the benefit of about two and half months of Call of Brine and Overcharge pre-nerf. The "3 gen meta" and "gen kick meta" while having overlap should be explained as two separate and distinct events as the level of effect on the game between the two is not the same. 3 gen has been and still is a situational meta strat that can for games into lengthy stalemate scenarios. Gen kick meta conversely while making games longer on average than they should have been was not known for stalemating games long term just making them much harder to win.
