How would you want freddy to be reworked?

With the recent ama confirming that freddy is on the list of killers that behavior wants to refine, I want to know, how would you want your favorite dream demon to be reworked?

For me personally I’ve always found og freddy, despite all his flaws, to be much more fateful and interesting than the current version. I feel like a return to freddy only being able to harm you when you’re sleeping would be much more engaging than him existing in both worlds (obviously though without the slower gen speeds and stuff). Adding more tricks and traps for the dream world would be cool. Like maybe fake generators, or trapping lockers so they open up and pour blood everywhere as a sort of jumpscare/alarm thing for the killer. Making the dream world more threatening would encourage people to play around it more. as right now the dream world is so minor there’s barely any real threat encouraging you to wake up. Also i’d love to see robert englund freddy but I dont want to get my hopes up.

They definitely, absolutely, 100% should not revert him back to the way he was before. If it was bad to fundamentally change a killer once, it would be bad to do it a second time, not even mentioning that he was changed for a reason.

What they should do in my opinion is exactly what you suggest, is give him more fake things to make the dream world harder to predict. However, I'd suggest making them part of his addons as part of a huge overhaul, for a few reasons.

    • His addons are currently awful and an overhaul is required anyway,
    • It provides more variety to a killer that currently lacks much interesting punch to his kit in general,
    • Making them addon-based would make it much harder for survivors to predict exactly what is going to be fake in any specific match, which adds a little bit of spice to a trial as you figure out which addons Freddy brought.

On top of that, make pallets and snares both basekit at once, and let him swap between them like Clown's bottles.

I think the ability to change things in the dream world fits him really well, but has been said there needs to be more of it. I'd love if could block off windows or change loops, but I highly doubt the engine could handle things like.

No rework, they should just give him a QOL for his current kit and nothing more, I hope old freddy stays buried and dead for good, never to return.

Also you definitely shouldn't get your hopes up for Robert Englund Freddy coming into the game since the license dbd has is not the one Robert's Freddy falls under.

If it was up to me rework Freddy, it would be old Freddy where it takes 7 seconds to put anyone to sleep and any Survivor can exploit being injured and fail skill checks just to get out of it and be free from harm.

I do however like the old way in which, there is a transition between visible and invisible. Why not make Freddy invisible completely and easily sneak up on survivors with the only sound cue being the lullaby. Once he injured or put any Survivor in the Dream State, they can visually see Freddy and are in a tough prediction in the dream world.

In the Dream World, Freddy used snares and pallets as basekit; there is no token for dream pallets but snares are available for limited used. Additional addons can add new mechanicals like blocking nearby windows or deny pallet usage (similar to Hex: Blood Favor) put looking in their direction; but at the cost of token. He can teleport to a gen as usually, but no map wide notification; only the gen being affected by the teleport sound cue allow. (Gives Freddy the element of surprise, as well as limit time undetectable status effect after Teleporting.) The more people affected in the dream, the more likely he teleports. Oh, and Alarm Clock gets a buffed; if a survivor used it to awaken themselves even while awake; to get the additional effect of seeing Freddy outside of the dream world. The effect is permanent, until Freddy hits them or... put any Survivor on the hook and remove the buffer completely and restart over looking for clocks again.

Original freddy skin with voice lines. Also make it that he can switch between pallets and snares basekit and add on pass.

Bringing old Freddy back while also fixing the core problems he had back in the day. Current Freddy hasn't aged well and feels like clown with a tp while his old kit was interesting and unique.

I think the one cool thing that could come back from the old Freddy design is the Nancy face visual effect he had when pulling people into the dream world. Not sure in what context it could be used now, I just think it was a nice little detail that referenced the movie in a smart way.

I'd love to see something like this!

The novel part of his old kit was that the Dream World and the Waking World were distinct, and more or less Freddy was in the Dream World. No Terror Radius for Awake Survivors (in addition to only having a lullaby in the Dream World), and could not be seen by Survivors that were awake. It was fun to mark a Survivor for sleep and see where they ran off to, if they did, and repositioning yourself in the loop to maybe have them run into you.

Though he got cucked by how easy it was to wake up, because skill-checks immediately woke Survivors up, already Awake Survivors could wake up sleeping Survivors, and his slowdown was entirely dependent on Survivors staying in the Dream World (also boring stat-stick slowdown), which was easy to ignore because of that, and since he had no mobility he couldn't really take advantage of Skill-check explosions across the map, and Survivors that gained distance through some manner could very well be woken up mid chase.

However, his rework did a lot of good in terms of versatility, it just lacks some of the flavor the OG had, making him more like any other Killer in that he's always visible and around.

I'd like to see him return back into the Dream World, no Glimpses unless a Survivor is being pulled in or almost asleep due to Micro-sleep. He is Permanently Undetectable, and his Lullaby is only heard while in the Dream World, by Survivors being pulled in, or when nearly asleep. Skill-check failures do not wake Survivors up, but add Micro-sleep protection. Awake Survivors can no longer Wake Up Asleep Survivors, but Awake Survivors can perform the Wake Up action on Awake Survivors to add Micro-sleep Protection without notifying the Killer. Getting Hooked does not Wake Up Survivors. Asleep Survivors can only Wake Up by interacting with an Alarm Clock, which will always spawn the farthest away from when they fall asleep. Freddy receives Killer Instinct on any Survivor that Enters the Dream World.

I would keep his Teleport, his Snares, and his Dream Pallets, but let him use all of them at the same time in the Dream World.

Key points regarding sleep: The only way to Wake Up is by interacting with Alarm Clocks, every other method just delays Micro-sleep. Freddy cannot interact with Survivors that are Awake apart from putting them to sleep.

If they were feeling really frisky, I'd like to see the following:

When Survivors fall Asleep, they leave a "Husk" in the Waking World, sleeping. These Husks mimic the sounds that the Asleep Survivor makes. Awake Survivors cannot interact with them in any manner. Neither Freddy or Asleep Survivors see these Husks. And Awake Survivors cannot interact with/see Freddy or Asleep Survivors. The only way to Heal/Unhook/Interact with Asleep Survivors is by entering/being in the Dream World as well. (However let me clarify that both Asleep and Awake Survivors are able to work on Generators). When a Survivor Wakes up by interacting with an Alarm Clock, they return to their "Husk". Awake Survivors can interact with the nightstands to enter the Dream world, leaving their "Husk" at that nightstand. Pallets dropped in the Dream World do not drop Pallets in the Waking World, same with Breakable Walls.

Pretty simple. Make him lore accurate. Absent in wake world unless the gates are powered. Deadly in dream world. More jump scares in dream world.
