Can we take a moment to appreciate how much this game has grown on horror theme variety?

When I started playing this game back in 2017, it was pretty much a slasher-themed game. The only other subgenre present was cosmic horror, but mostly in the lore about the Entity (which wasn't nearly as big and rich as it is today). That only manifested during gameplay though the Entity's claws that appeared on hooks on second stage, but there wasn't much more than that. The killers were all based on the slasher subgenre (the Hag deviated a little from it, but her lore screamed "slasher"), the generators and hooks were inspired by Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and there were other slasher tropes like the killer shack. The only licensed killer was Michael Myers, soon to be followed by Leatherface and Freddy Krueger.

The first killer based on a different popular horror style was the Spirit (J-horror), but even she had to carry a sword to slash people with. Later we would get Demogorgon, who isn't a slasher villain, even though Stranger Things has many references to classic slasher movies.

Now look at how the game has evolved into so much more: we have Pyramid Head, Resident Evil villains, literal zombies, an Oni akin to japanese myths, a monstrosity based on Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, Sadako Yamamura herself, a twisted manifestation of dark thoughts that feasts on misery and suffering, a reverse-cyborg controlled by a sentient AI that was programmed to protect its crew on an alien planet, and now, finally, one of the most iconic monsters of sci-fi horror, a xenomorph. Not to mention the rich and ever-growing lore that goes deeper into the cosmic horror and includes a multiverse with many worlds with different manifestations of horror, which includes vampires and giant spiders.

Years ago, when other players suggested things like "add a vampire/werewolf killer to the game", "add Alien" or "add Predator", I would disagree, I would say they didn't fit the game's slasher aesthetic. But now, seeing how much it grew and how well so many subgenres of horror fit so well in it's design and lore, my answer is yes. YES, please, add a vampire, add a werewolf, add that spider-like monster that appeared in a cinematic already, add Predator if you ever get the license, add monsters from any mythology you can think of. Even though DbD is hard to find "scary", it grew into far more than a small slasher-themed game and became a huge hall of fame of horror that includes more and more horror subgenres as the time goes, and that is awesome.
