Protection hits perks and hook-blocking

Over the last week or so since I've returned to playing DBD I've been trying out various combinations involving Mettle of Man and Breakout.
I've tried to body block hooks multiple times to potentially try to get another survivor off of the killer's shoulder, and 9/10 times the killer can hook through my body.
I would understand if I was slightly to the side or something like that, but I can physically see the killer unable to hook at first and then, without my moving at all, they hook the survivor and basically push me out of the way or, better yet, hook them through me.
Anyone else noticing this lately?
Playstation player, happens most every game I try to use the aforementioned perks.
