Don't 99 the Gates
Or if you are, please don't run away from the exit gate as it defeats the whole purpose of 99% the gate anyway
Sincerely, a Survivor that was being chased all end game and died because I had to tap the gate and no one was there

^ This.
Also, I'm getting a lot of teammates who 99% a gate after the other gate has been opened. I mean, I can see them, I'm running towards them, the EGC is counting down, and they pull away at 99%.
We badly need a PSA about how to handle exit gates.

I just want the gates to have base kit Ruin, that way you have to open them.
So many times I die, because Survivors just do this all the time

Shouldn't even be possible to 99 the gates anyway. Devs should've taken this out a long time ago. Gates should slowly and automatically regress if the switch isn't held. 99ing the gates isn't a good idea most of the time. Just open the gate.. -_0 This is the type of stuff that devs leave in which give Survivors an inch of freedom and they take a mile instead just because they can. If this game had more structure stuff like that wouldn't be possible.

Agreed. Have gates automatically regress if not fully opened. The whole points of the closed gate is the time pressure of having to open it. Opening it when there's no risk essentially eliminates that entirely. Commit to fully opening it, or not touching the gate should be the options (I suppose you could "babysit a gate and keeping it topped off", but considering you have to dedicate someone actually being there, I don't see an issue with it).

I'd be fine with that. It means you'd need 1 person dedicated just to keep it 99'd.There have been so many times I'm about to make a great escape or see a teammate about to do the same, and suddenly realize the exit gate is 99'd.... All those moments and the gate never opened.. :/

Congratz, you are completely missing the point of this Thread.

Congratz for pointing it out. You get a blue ribbon. :D
there is no ribbon0 -
Since I created this topic, discussing exit gates is relevant

We really don't. Bad players will continue to play badly, while good players already know the benefits of 99ing the gate.

There is no benefit to 99%ing an exit gate once EGC has started. It does not counter Blood Warden. I'm coming across a lot of survivors who don't seem to know how exit gates work.
4 -
Yes, I'm aware which is why I pointed out that a PSA isn't going to stop bad players from playing badly and that the good players already know the benefits of 99ing the gates, and already know it's pointless to 99 in EGC.
Tbh it's the first time I've heard of someone 99ing a gate during EGC.
1 -
This mainly started due to blood warden but since the perk is not heavily used anymore I don't see why we have to constantly leave the gates 99

There aren't just good players and bad players, though. There are new players with little to no experience, the tutorial is very lacking, and when inexperienced players hear some bit of advice like "99% the gate" they don't understand what it means or when it does and doesn't apply. No one tells them they have to stay by the door and open it or else all they've done is created a death trap to counter a seldom seen perk.
People learn over time. I've gotten better as I've played. No one starts out being an expert at a video game.
EGC has been around for a while, but I've only recently started seeing teammates 99% an exit gate after the other has already been opened. I don't know how it started or what prompted it, but apparently there are a growing number of players who need the exit gate mechanics explained to them.

In my experience, new players tend to immediately open the gates and leave. Yes, the tutorial is very lacking but that's by design, since a lot of the stuff you learn is from playing the game and can't really be taught.
Clearly there's someone spreading misinformation about when to 99 the gates, because I have never seen a single post anywhere telling people to 99 the gates in EGC.
99ing the gates isn't just about avoiding Blood Warden. It prevents the timer for EGC starting, which allows time for rescues. I've had matches where I was hooked as the last gen popped, and because somebody opened the gate, the killer trapped me in a lose-lose situation where I could neither reach the open gate nor reach the other gate without getting downed so I was left in a position where my only choice was to be taken by the entity.
It's very much something that only experienced survivors should do, since they have enough knowledge to make an informed decision about when to open the gates and when to 99 them.

I wish people that 99 gates and decide to leave would actually 99% them and not 95% or 90% them. Bad enough having to be the one to tap it while injured instead of just running out, even worse when I have to stand there for extra seconds to finish opening it because they didn't actually 99 it.

its more a read the room thing. there are times when 99ing the gates is good, and times where its better not to
same with times where its just better to leave and hope the surv being chased can get hatch, and times where its better to run back into the map to take hits
it varies, unfortunately people choose to default to 99ing and it doesnt always work out. solo q is just like that since they dont get much info
if it makes you feel better, your teammates were probably trying to be helpful, it just didnt work out for you

I think the literal OP of this thread would know the point of his own thread. Maybe it's you who missed the point. XD
1 -
Nah, OP complained about Survivors not staying at the Gate if they 99 it. Because while 99ing Gates is smart, it is not smart anymore when nobody stays there to open it.
The quoted responses are those which would belong in one of the 500 "Wääh, Survivors are not under pressure during EGC, because they 99 the Gates"-Threads.

I think the exit gate, when let go, should reset its progress to the last point that corresponds to the lights glowing on top of it. I made a suggestion about this months ago that there should be thresholds to the switch.
1 light = 25%
2 lights = 50%
3 lights = 75%
And then it opens at 100%, obviously. Letting go of the switch would immediately reset it to these thresholds, so trying to 99 the gate would instead reset it to 75%.
99ing the gates is definitely annoying when misused, and has also been used to grief. I once had a match where my last surviving teammate stood in front of the 99'd switch and refused to open it until the killer caught up to us and downed me, then immediately popped it open and escaped, leaving me to die for no reason other than their amusement.
