Why don't my settings get saved?

For some reason everytime I restart the game I don't only have to activate the visible heartbeat again but also deactivate the anti-aliasing and adjust the screen resolution. It just never saves those settings, what can I do there to get it saved?

If you changed your in-game settings using the GameUserSettings.ini file, you needed to do this to get 120 fps or to turn of vsync before the most recent patch, you most likely set the file to Read Only, which would prevent the game from overwriting it with changes to your settings.

This does sound like your config file is in read-only mode, like Dinoraptus suggested. Perhaps you are checking the wrong file? With some update not too long ago, BHVR spawned a new folder for config files for some reason. You find your GameUserSettings.ini file here, now:

    AppData\Local\DeadByDaylight\Saved\Config\WindowsClient

Yeah I know, but I only have that one folder there so, can't be that either.

Well, if your config file being read-only isn't the issue, making it read-only could be the solution. Prior to that however, make sure you don't accidentally have DbD installed on another drive, duplicate folders, or maybe even a secondary version or the like. Verifying the integrity of the game's cache is also good practice, just to make sure.

If you can exclude any such possibility, try adjusting these values as follows in your GameUserSettings.ini, setting it to read-only afterwards. Do remember that that will mean any settngs you apply from the menu in the future will be reset to whatever is in your file upon restart.

    Visual heartbeat: TerrorRadiusVisualFeedback=True

    Anti-Aliasing: AntiAliasingMode=0

Screen Resolution: This depends on what you mean exactly. Do you want to play in fullscreen mode with a distinct resolution, or do you want to play in windowed fullscreen mode/use the resolution scaling?

I tried making it read only but nothing happened to the contents of the file, no matter what I changed in the game settings even. What do you mean by installed on another drive? Aren't the game user settings. ini files standard on the same drive as your OS? Yes the rest of the game is on another drive, but I cannot really influence where that part is placed right?

As for the resolution I have a weird monitor with a standard resolution of 1650x1080 or something similar to that which is why I always have black bars bottom and top and I just wanted to figure out if I could get them to be smaller or something like that.

Verification of the files also did nothing.

You might be onto something with the second file or something like that, because for some reason my file does not include those two things:

    Visual heartbeat: TerrorRadiusVisualFeedback=True

    Anti-Aliasing: AntiAliasingMode=0

they are just not in there, I even searched with the strg + f search bar. But how is that a thing? I did it just by typing %appdata% in the search bar and got to this thing, I'm kind of confused right now.

Reinstalling the game seems to have added those options, I don't know why they were not in it beforehand though...

I'm sorry, but do you know how to check whether the file is in read-only mode? Because both the absence of those (and various other) variables in your GUS.ini as well as the fact that your custom graphics settings (under [ScalabilityGroups]) are being maintained suggests that the file is read-only.

Right click, properties, then at the very bottom there is a checkbox that says read only.

If that doesn't work, you can just blow away your Dead by Daylight folder, verify game files, then launch the game. it should repopulate everything with default.

EDIT: I mean the DeadbyDaylight folder in Local, not your actual game install, the same place you go to find your GameUserSettings.ini

You would have to set your settings again but it will let you save them.

Should have tried that before I reinstalled the whole thing xD I knew about the read only thing and also tried to do all that, but we'll I reinstalled it and now it works, so I guess it is fine now :3
