Can’t start chases

I’ve played around 10 games today as different killers and I’ve realized that you can’t start chases with survivors no matter how close you are. The only way I’ve found how to start chases with survivors right now is to hit them. But after hitting them the chase ends about 10 seconds later
I’m on Xbox Series X. Today I’ve played Trapper, Nurse, Huntress, Deathslinger, and Trickster. I’ve had the same problem on all of them
