It shouldn't be used in ecg for a free escape.

It's fine, Endurance only lasts 10 seconds so it's not a completely free escape as long as the killer doesn't hook you right by an open exit gate.

I'd guess they either did hook near a door, or was at the tail end of the bodyblocking conga line.

I use this perk a lot an have got a lot of escapes from it even from mid way across map not much killer can do unless they nurse really.
