Merging steam and epic accounts

I have the game on both platforms and I'm thinking about merging the accounts.

I read that if the accounts gets unmerged all things I buy and progress I make after merging will be lost. Is there anyway to keep this locked? I would hate to loose everything just because of a miss click, or if my account gets hacked or some kind of technical error occurs.

And If I merge can I still get achievements on both platforms?
