What does "Hide your name" do exactly?
I'm not talking about Anonymous, rather Hide Your name. It states it replaces your name in game with "You" which I can verify, but it also reads "...and will be completely hidden in your friends list." I assumed that to mean I wont show up in the game's friend list but this isn't so. I've asked friends they still see me. I also verified this myself by logging on to an alt account on my ps4 and my main account on my ps5 and still saw my name in friend list.
So either it isn't working completely or I misunderstand what "...and will be completely hidden in your friends list." actually means.

I think it just hides your name from your view and is supposed to be used by streamers that don’t want to show their name.

THIS. I always turn on both when playing killer. Seeing it say "You" instead of my name reminds me to turn off anonymous mode when swapping back to Survivor.

When you open your friendlist in-game to invite/join your friends as surv/in custom match then your name would be displayed in the top left above the list. When activating the anonymous mode the name there will be replaced by ‚You‘

I think I figured out what I needed. The friends lists "censors" your friends names with *****. The way it's worded is a double entendre. Could also be taken as you will be in offline mode to your friends and they cant see you're even in-game.
