The "PTB effect"
This concept I refer to as "PTB effect" is simple. When a new chapter or inportant update is released, it usually spends from 2 to 3 weeks in the ptb, where PC players can try the update before everyone else. Now you see new/buffed/reworked killers being absolute beasts there at first, seemingly being broken, new/buffed/reworked perks being also extremely good or bad. Then the update goes live and all survivors seem to know exactly how to counter the new killer and/or handle the reworked/buffed/new perks while console players struggle to get used to said new content. This creates a situation where PC players have the upperhand against console players, which seems to be a little bit unfair kf you ask me.
This would not matter if crossplay weren't a thing, but it is. Someone may suggest turning it off, but then the wait times would increase exponentially.
I believe a proper solution would be to shorten the time between a PTB release and the actual live release. Thing would still not be equal between console and PC players, but would be closer to it.

Besides content creators there aren't that many people playing the PTB long enough to learn how to play as or against new perks / killers. Killer queues are very long, there's no SBMM or DC penalty so it's not uncommon to not get any "real" game.
Not to mention it's only available for steam players and you can't go back and forth between live & PTB without downloading it every time
Shortening the time would mean devs don't have as much time to fix the bugs or very obvious balance problems

First of all, PTB lasts like a week. Second, people who get a proper learning experience need to play the PTB a lot. Most don't.
So its a problem that you have not proven exist to a large enough degree and your solution would get in the way of everything else about the PTB, like the PTB is really important, they need it to test their product and get a head start on public bugfixes.

As a console player, I'd priotise releasing in a working (and preferably balanced) state over being worried about a 3 week PC advantage.
There are content creators you can usually pick up tricks from anyway.

I think you overestimate how many people actually download the PTB and even if they do, they probably only play a few matches which is hardly that much of a head start. That said, I like your solution because it means the content arrives faster so even if I disagree with the reason I wish the solution was done.

To your point about having to download the live or PTB version, on Xbox games like Minecraft and DayZ both have "experimental" games separate from their "live" versions for testing new things out. Maybe they could make use out of a similar setup, where there's a testing version always there to mess around with.

Yeah that'd be neat, I had two DBD installed on my computer for months (played on Epic, kept Steam for PTB). Let's just say it wasn't ideal and now I don't play the PTB anymore lol

I promise it’s not that deep, and does not give any sort of noticeable advantage.
