issues with clothing in DbD
Hey folks,
since we just got the new Nea and Claudette outfits, I realized again that the clothing-system in DbD has some issues and inconsistency I want to discuss and mention. And since the clothing are a foundation for the longterm-financing for the devs it would be nice to see some improvements on some of the issues in the near future.
Issue 1:
- clipping from different clothing parts
Example:
-> the new red jacket for Nea and her long black hair (with sidecut) - the hair is clearly clipping through the jacket and that looks simply not good
Issue 2:
- stiff and animated clothing (inconsistency)
Example:
-> the grey skirt (fog traveler set) for Meg, which is fully animated and the skirts for Nea which doesn't have a animation at all (why?)
Example:
-> the new red jacket for Nea (stiff and not animated) and the jacket for David from the chinese new year event (animated)
Issue 3:
- animation of long hair
Example:
-> the standard hairstyle for Kate just looks horrible ... the animation doesn't look like hair, more like some sort of spaghetti
Issue 4:
- missing or poorly textures
Example:
-> when Nea is wearing any of her tanktops the skin on her body and in the armpits looks very poorly and distorted
Example:
-> the red beanie for Nea (with the short green hair) is missing textures (see picture in this thread)
Issue 5:
- necklaces
Example:
-> if the outfit contains any necklace, it is floating above the skin instead of lie on top of the skin from the character (for example on Kate and Nea)
Another thing about the shop which annoys me to no end is the fact, that you can't combine 2 different new pieces of clothing to check if it fits together optical wise and in regards of any potential clipping. If you choose a second piece of clothing it simply jumps back to you current ingame outfit. Would be nice if the shop just ignores you current outfit, so you can combine what you want and see if that looks good or not.
At the end a lot of people are paying money to get those outfits and for that it would be nice if the outfits would be a little bit more smooth in the looks.
Thanks for reading and have a nice day!
Greetings
Erdbeermilch

You would be typing out for literally hours if you were to try and list all the combos that have clipping issues and such. The worst thing is when an item naturally has clipping, like the new Nea jacket you mentioned. I've seen her skin clip through her gloves.
But if you want a crazy cosmetic combo issue check this out: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1609754076

This monstrosity needs to be fixed. I paid money of this when it looked good but since the engine change it just looks like she's got a fan stuck up her a**, put on 10kg of weight around her hips and a** while the ends of her skirt are taped to the back of her knee. What.

Nea's orange beanie isn't missing textures, it's just poorly UV mapped, so the seams are in really obvious places that the player can see, as opposed to being hidden. It's hard to fix as it requires all new textures and I doubt they care about the old cosmetics anymore. (I don't blame you for calling it "red", to the non-artist eye, orange next to green looks more red because of the concept of relative color).

Also cute how you called physics animation, like they didn't have to do a single thing to make Meg's skirt move accept click a button to give it cloth simulation. I love how even people who don't know the lingo are even picking up on this kinda thing tho. (Nea's red jacket is too short for physics anyways)
