Fixing Darkness Among Us
Introoo
Some ways I would improve on the Darkness Among Us DLC as a whole. As always this is just my opinion, so feel free to share yours too.
The Map
Old Ormond was significantly better than new Ormond as I've stated previously.
First of all, Idk why they removed so much personality from the map. Now it looks abandoned, run-down, and has some graffiti, but old Ormond looked like a place a bunch of punks would hang out. Comparing the two, the only a few things I think BHVR did better, the rest is a massive downgrade IMO.
The bar area looks better and has more going on.
From the fireplace area when you go up the stairs and turn left that room looks better with it's machines.
And sure, it's cute that the two upstairs rooms have more items, like TVs and beds.
Some of the wind and snow looks better and colder.
But now we get to the parts that I think made it look way less interesting and less immersive.
They removed a lot of clutter like boxes, bookshelves, bottles, and cans. I think it was all kinda grungy and it suited the Legion well.
The graffiti is pretty much all black, making it look like all of it was done with Sharpie, and none of it was done with spray paint. It also looks more faded, especially the mural that's now easy to miss.
The fireplace has less going on. Sure I guess IRL a lot of fireplaces are like that, doesn't mean it looked better. The bricks at the fireplace matched the upstairs floor. The way there was a dip in the floor with couches at the fire made it really unique.
They removed a lot of the boards. The boards made it really feel like you aren't supposed to be there, almost like it's dangerous. It suited how abandoned the place is.
They replaced the couches that had rips, and a plaid-looking pattern that suits an Alberta lodge with these newer looking leather chairs and couches.
They removed that vehicle that was in the hole in the side of the wall. It did feel edgy to me, as I had been to youth centers decorated like that.
It was nighttime, and cool kids never sleep so ofc that made more sense. Legion gets up to a lot of mischief at night.
So when it comes to fixing the map, BHVR had it pretty close the first time. I would revert most changes and keep the ones that worked.
The Lore
Legion is one of those killers who I honestly got more from their killer desc than their actual tome. The tome did add some cool facts and insight that I liked, but honestly so much was done wrong IMO that I think it did more harm than good.
They could have expanded on Julie, but I think they made her boring. We learned she really likes murder, bad boys, and getting into trouble. Why does she like them? Eh, she's probably bored. They could have made a story about how a shy bullied girl like Susie got manipulated by Frank, a story about how Frank was lashing out from a lack of guidance and years of abuse in Foster Care, a story about Joey trying to find the validation he doesn't get from his single mom at home, or at LEAST gave us something to care about when it comes to Julie. We didn't get that. If it didn't focus on Julie I wouldn't care, but the tomes did.
The animation retcons the killer desc. Susie and Joey helped with the murder. What does it say about Frank's character that he basically forced Susie to take part in it? What does it say that each member had their own role to play in killing that shop worker, but in the tome it was just Frank and Julie... Stabbing the guy in ways that completely contradicts what we initially got.
The timelines are also really weird. The understanding I got is the came up with the name "Legion" the night the entity took them, but Jeff made their mural.
Why did Susie and Joey cause "serious" injuries by messing with traffic, and stick around long enough to know just how many, and take photos?
I would scrape the entire tome. Either make it focus on another character like I previously mentioned, or dive into how Julie got the way she did, because in the lore she is more interested and willing to commit murder than even Frank who is supposed to be the main influence.
Jeff
Just make Jeff's grunts more quiet. I would also expand on the lore by mentioning how he feels about Burzum, that's a joke don't debate about THAT in the comments. No, I would expand on the lore by giving Jeff his very own tome, although I'm gonna be honest his desc is already really good.
The Power
There's nothing I can say about Legion's power that'll work that Tatariu hasn't already. He said to change Joey's mixtape and let Legion see scratch marks and pools of blood in their power. Stronger killers can in their power and legion is still basically M1.
