Tip Thread for unexperienced and experienced players (Both Sides)
Hello people, I would like to have a thread where everyone can leave one or multiple tips for players behind. Feel free to leave your main (Either which side or a specific killer), so players can maybe reach out to you. This thread is mainly here to help and maybe even inspire people. Just bringing some positivity back. o/
I main Survivor to 65% and Killer to 35% since 2016.
Survivor Tip:
Learning what Checkspots are is so important. A Checkspot is an area that gives you a chance to hide while tracking the movement of the killer. In a checkspot you react perfectly and accordingly based of what the killer is doing, leaving you with nearly only safe options. An example is in the picture below.
Another Tip is to not waste pallets. I don't mean by that you should never drop pallets. But you can be healed - pallets cannot be restored. If you are about to get a hit, take it and leave the loop instead of dropping the pallet if you couldn't avoid the hit anyways. In that example i greeded the pallet: Either I get the M1 and make distance (Perfect) or he again pressures me with his chainsaw which leads either to me looping the pallet (Him potentially failing to go around) or I take the window. Dropping that pallet would turn that area to a potential deadzone against a bamboozle Bubba.
Knight Tip:
Use guards according to their strengths. Especially Carnifex is a monster while in chase. Bait a pallet drop while summoning Carnifex and destroy the pallet within maybe 1 second. It will guarantee a hit. If the pathing of survivors is bad you can essentialy time the hit of the guard and your hit to instantly down them!

I think everybody might know it but maybe this?
Solve Pinhead's box when he is chasing injured survivor and carrying one. And solve the box in the safe looping zone to prepare the case when he teleports.
Check the nearby places and cabinets if gens were repaired but no evidences about survivors were found.

This tip also goes for hag in a way
Try to dive bomb all her traps when she’s carrying someone so she doesn’t have her web anymore
2 -
Yes this also does her, but most survivors don't do that because they don't know it is her counter play, which makes her strong.
Btw, I forgot to add one. Use cabinet to avoid Hillbilly, Bubba, Wesker, Blight, and even Nurse's blink.

I feel it's an excellent place for sharing my universal generic killer guide. It's all there is to know:
6 -
You need to stand still in skull merchants drones while the thing is scanning you to not get a pip of whatever the thing is called.
You can autoaim blight into most pallets by crouching into the very corner of the high side of a dropped pallet.
You can "crouch tech" billy and demo by being on a lower level of elevation and crouching into their power.
You can reliably loop victor on medium sized trees just by running around them. The collision is a bit funky and makes him miss most times.
The timing for a pallet save is PICK..GRUNT(this is when you hear the survivor being put on someone's shoulder)..SLAM
You can just jump into a locker into trickers main event.
You can use chests and gens as well as lockers to stop yourself being tombstoned.
Nurse cannot blink through edgemap walls. Use those corners to your advantage.

Madness 3 doesn't let heal, sabo, item usage and I'm pretty sure blessing and cleansing.
Don't loop nurse like every other killers. Be unpredictable.

A little tip for new players:
Do not get attached to anything. Not perks, not add-ons and especially not powers. Your favorite things can be taken away at any given time.
4 -
Play to learn, don't play to win. The winning will come naturally the more you play but go into each trial with something to prove: Escape chases from a Killer in one, learn evading in next, learn how to deal with a certain tile another. That way you'll get better naturally and rely more on your abilities than with Perks.
The winning will happen, but by playing trials to learn you will have a much more rewarding and less stressful experience.

I would recommend you not play Solo.
Use the LFG finder or use the DBD Discord to find some people to play with

"You can autoaim blight into most pallets by crouching into the very corner of the high side of a dropped pallet."
I would like to just add to this. Blight can mitigate this most of the time if he is coming from the right angle. If he comes at you from like a 70 degree plus angle he can shoulder flick and not get absorbed into the pallet majority of the time.
Also start going for plutos people, I never feel more proud of survivors than when they successfully and intentionally pull one off on me especially not at shack.

The best counter to blight is to hold w in wide open areas or long narrow pathways. This will make it hard for him to hit you..

You can leave tips on loops, too.
I often find survivors going in circles and when bloodlust activates I am about to hit them but they drop the pallet and stun.
What exactly are you looking for here? You do 2 or 3 loops around boxes / pickup trucks?
0 -
As killer it depends on the loop itself and what killer you are playing. If you are a basic M1 killer without a power, you should not respect safe pallets and make sure they drop it as soon as possible. If its a short loop then you can either respect and bloodlust it or play some tricky mindgames.
You can play around most pallets with your power honestly since half of the killers you can play have something against pallets. Its also important to hunt them from the right side: Make sure if they drop the pallet, they are on a deadzone side or on a shorter loop. Always hunt survivors so that they cannot chain loop the L into the T wall.

Absolutely goated strategy, can confirm it works ;)

Thank you for posting, The_Daydreamer, and everyone posting tips to help newer players <3 And I'm ashamed to admit sometimes I'll throw out KNight's Guards to throw them out regardless of their strength 😅 so its a good reminder to even long-time players to keep an eye on those things.
And something I've said before but bears repeating: No matter the role - relax, have fun, and it's ok to have a bad game or two; don't be too hard on yourself!
With Trapper and Hag (two of my favorites) - it's ok to lose a gen in the beginning to set up traps; its something I used to be anxious with myself about when I started playing them, but once I relaxed about it, it helped a ton 🖤 And with Hag, I am one of those that like to trap "high traffic" areas; places that don't really have gens or hooks, but Survivors will tend to run without checking. It may not be the strategy for many, but, hey, changing how to do things is a part of the fun 😄
1 -
Oh yes that's so true. Especially the part about gens: No matter the gens, it's totally normal lose some at the beginning - even three! Survivor are strongest at the beginning since any killer needs to start to apply pressure. So if those gen pop, don't get frustratet.
Another tip I can give is to hook survivors near objectives if possible. That way you have Generators AND a hooked Survivor in a very critical area. o/
1 -
For killers:
Take the time to learn the killer you play. Every killer is unique in some way and playing into their strengths can bring you a long way. Focus on a handful of killers that you want to get good with and learn their unique strenghts and weaknesses.
Don't be discouraged from chasing good survivors. These are the kind of players, that you'll learn most from.
Also, don't use the same 4 perks on every killer. Different killers have different strengths and weaknesses and synergise with different perks.
For survivors:
Play smart not hard. Make some smart decisions outside of chase and utilise the information you get from the HUD.
Look out for gens in potential dead zones and finish them early on, Bond can help you tell what gens are about to be done and where the killer is headed.
Getting better at the game is a lot more fun than crutching on meta perks.
For both sides: The game isn't over until it's over. You can turn around a match in the 11th hour even when everything points against it.

When playing against Legion there is 3 things you never want to do.
- Don’t Heal!! Legion’s entire power is centered around how easy he can keep people injured. 9/10 times he will just injure you again after you heal. It’s a huge waste of time and gives Legion insane slowdown. You only want to be healing if you absolutely have to or if you can heal very quickly. Otherwise focus on repairing generators. Some beginner perks that might help you with this are We’ll Make It and Resilience.
- Never group up. Legion excels when survivors are together. He can easily chain hits, slow down the game with mass deep wounds, and potentially get a down with frenzy. Make sure to stay away from your teammates when you can and split up on generators, even if someone is running a perk like Prove Thyself. If you hear Legion coming run in the opposite direction of him and away from any survivors if possible. Perks like Bond, Empathy, or Kindred will help you know where to position yourself.
- Don’t mend immediately. This is a mistake that even players with many hours still make. It maybe scary to see the mending bar go down, but don’t be tempted to immediately get rid of it. Remember, the bar pauses if you are in chase and while you are mending. Dying from deep wound only happens if you purposefully let it. Mending right after you’ve been hit by frenzy can put you in a vulnerable position. Legions will often pretend to go away after a hit, only to come back immediately. There is also an addon that lets legion see the aura of survivors that are mending, letting him know your position. After you are hit, make sure to make distance from the killer. You should start mending when you no longer hear his terror radius. Mend near safe loops if you can.

That clip is a bad illustration of what you are trying to say, The_Daydreamer. For one there is another pallet nearby and two if he calls your bluff he downs you. In my opinion dropping it was the right play; with Overcome maybe not.

The one advice I'd give to any player is to play both roles even if you have a preference. (Know your enemy.)
It's even more important for survivors as if a killer gives you trouble, playing that killer until you get spanked by more experienced survivors will show you how to verse it.
1 -
If you know the Killer has Surge (which is a common Perk nowadays), jump into lockers, or use Plot Twist if you have it right before going down to deny the Perk from proccing.
If you play vs Oni, don't be afraid of predropping every pallet. The longer you delay him getting his power the better. The same goes for Nemesis.. keep him in Tier 1 for as long as possible.
Try yo-yo tech. It means keeping safe consistent distance bewteen you and the Killer if he's patrolling. If he approaches.. run away and as soon as he turns back.. follow him. It is a dangerous strat for Killers when used correctly. It helps at pressuring gens and other things against the Killer.

This tips is for both sides: Don’t give up just because things are looking bad, especially at the start.
Even if the survivors have gotten 3 gens on and you only have 1 hook, it’s still possible for you to win. I’ve had countless games where I had a very bad start but managed to pull off a victory even at 1 gen.
Same for survivors. Sure you got downed really early, but your team has nearly got 3 whole gems completed! Don’t leave the game just because you had a bad start and screw everyone else out of a winnable game.
Also bonus tip for survivors: If you do gens you can win most games. Standing around doing nothing kills more people than the killer does.

Some things I wish I knew as a complete beginner:
If you want to get the Iri 1 achievement as Survivor, do it as soon as you can. Once you reach a certain MMR in Solo Q, it becomes near impossible (at least in my experience). Killer Iri 1 will still be possible though, since all your Killers have different MMRs so you'll still be able to cheese the emblem system to get those last few pips.
New Killers, you might benefit from unlocking Lightborn as soon as you can. You will save yourself a lot of early frustration. Because the matchmaking system will put you up against Survivors that are way above your skill level. It's probably not a great idea to crutch on this perk long term and you should learn how to play around flashlights eventually, but you have enough to learn already. Learn to deal with beamers when you've gained a bit more experience in the role and your chosen Killer's fundamentals.
Seek out info. I didn't bother to seek out any beginner guides when I first started playing. I completed the tutorial and thought to myself "cool, guess I know all I need to know now". I could not have been more wrong. I didn't learn until much later that the tutorial doesn't even teach the basics. I didn't even learn about the endurance effect until about 50 hours in, for example. You can learn as you go as I did, but it's probably better to speed up the learning process by doing a little bit of extra research.
Never under or overestimate your opponent. Just because a Survivor had a bad first chase, it doesn't mean they couldn't run you for a couple of gens the next time you chase them. I've had Killers drop chase on me moments before I would have gone down. And I've had bad starts to Killer games that I've eventually won because the Survivors got cocky and over confident. It's never over until the Entity says so.
Edit: I forgot to say, don't be a meta slave. You'll miss out on a lot of the fun this game can bring if you ignore certain perks and play styles just because the rest of the community don't see the appeal. Experiment with different builds to find what works best for you. There's more than one way to play this game.

Tip: Read the wiki.

pay attention to the hud. If someone gets hooked and you see someone not on a gen, or someone leave a gen and no chase is happening… stay on a gen. They are getting the unhook.
If you see on your hud, that your teammates are ranking up on hooks but you have yet to be hooked. Make yourself very visible to the killer, or even voluntary take a down/hook trade if necessary to give the others time to reset and finish gens.
If the killer is tunneling and you’re all surrounding the survivor being chased instead of slamming gens… then it’s game over. Also if it’s endgame, and if everyone surrounds and unhooks in front of the killer with no gate having been 99’d…. You farmed your teammate for points.
