Trapper is just viable with red addons
I never have played the trapper since 5000 hours. The reasons are simple
You are going to grab ONE trap and you just can carry ONE trap with you. Then you search for a spot. You place the trap. And a survivor will disarm it because why not? It takes 2 seconds, this doesnt matter. So it's not just that you grab every trap and place them everywhere no. You have to activate them in loops. And often those loops are not loop enough and you loop and loop and get trolled and tbagged. I mean once i placed all my traps 2-3 generators popped. And THEN i startpatrolling the spots where I placed them because the survivors just diarm it without any consequences. That's bs. I hate it. And it doesnt make any sence to play the trapper without is ability. It doesnt make sence playinbg chase perks because you know you end up just get looped till daylight.
BUT
then the devs create some new addons: Bloody Coil & Iridescent Stone
Those 2 addons make the killer viable. Survivors get punished diarming a trap because. Wich results in less diarms during their fulllife state. This is so good. Means if I have placed all my traps I know that they're saver. I mean if they disarm them they gift me a free hit and borrowed me some time.
The Iridescent Stone let closed traps set. SO I dont have to patroll every single trap again and again and again. They can disarm them and it's okay I dont have to waste any more time. I can finally chase the survivor. And after the survivors saw that they get injured and the traps reactivates by themselfs they leave them alone. I have a REAL chance. I can finally make a bit pressure.
So I want to ask the devs
Why you dont make those or one of those addons to default? Default: if a survivor disarms a trap he's getting injured.
This would so much and one more thing: Let the trapper carry at least 2 traps. Means not that he becomes a new trap no he just start with 2 traps and can carry 2 traps instead of only one? I mean the trapper would be finally viable AND it would increase the fun factor tremendously. Maybe not a default Iridescent stone (not yet) because this is really evil.
I love those addons. I would be really happy if they make one of them as default. Quality of Life buffs.
Here a little taste video. at rank 1 casual gameplay

Well not all killers are meant to be viable (sadly)

no one forces you to play trapper.
pro tipp: play nurse and enjoy the 4k every round even without any addons
and if you would play ruin & noed on trapper and campy you will also easily get 3k every round against r1 survs without red addons

I couldn't disagree more. Trapper is easily my best killer. You ought to spend the first two minutes of a match placing traps in every pallet and window you can within earshot of a generator. The add-ons are just icing on the cake. I may not get the most bloodpoints with him, but its a 4k game with him the vast majority of the time

He doesn’t break the game like a Nurse. He can’t travel as fast as Billy, but his snowball potential is huge. You 100% don’t need red ons.
I have also played him since 2016. He’s easy to play, you have to be capable of predicting survivors. Thankfully I have 3000+ hours on survivor.0 -
im a trapper main. i like the purple addons.

And then there is the one (or even multiple) OoO survivor(s) telling with voice com where the traps are and disarm it lol. Without the iridescent addons you r just a M1 killer against that.
lol i can't argue with that. Its a risk you run, but i still love my trapper. And the trap you can place on the edge of the wood in the killer shack so the trap is half hidden is about a 98% catch rate.

trapper has really good basement potential. if you can get people to basement its worth the extra time.

I do very well with trapper, so I'm not sure what you are talking about. I've caught many a people in traps. Sometimes you have to think outside the box and place traps in areas they dont expect. Everyone expects pallet and window locations, or around generators. What they dont expect is that wide expanse of grass leading TO the generator, as, you know, its not exactly right next to anything.
Or put in a path you plan to chase someone through, like just around a corner or between two trees NEAR a generator, then chase from the other side. Does it always work? No. But it works often enough because they just don't expect it there.
Then suddenly they become as paranoid as with the Hag. But putting down, say, that honing stone that makes a character drop to dying if they free themselves, or the fastening tools and wax brick to make it longer and harder to escape, they are great add ons as well as the red add ons.
Or anything that adds hemmorhaging while having the blood hound perk for tracking, etc etcPlus, of course, at 115% speed he's fast too, so....

I was spectating after being the first to die, and I have to give him props, it was great. What he did was hide somewhere after hooking someone, waited until right after the person was unhooked, went in and added two traps at the top of the basement after stepping down, so they couldnt get past him without hitting a trap, then went down there.
The survivors that time didn't have a chance. It was great.

I agree with your post

Most killers are not viable nor will they make them viable, most killers are just supposed to be fun to play.
The DEVs when only 3 killers can be used effectively...

Actually I feel like the thing holding me back as Trapper is only being able to carry 1 trap at a time by default. You should start with 1 but be able to carry up to 3 by default.
