Killer - The Thanatos

Killer Data

Overview: The Thanatos is a reaping Killer, efficient in his approach and certain of when one's time is up. His personal perks instill fear in his targets as their death approaches.

Speed: 4.6 m/s (115%)

Terror Radius: 32 meters

Height: Average

Sound Effects: The Thanatos is uniquely quiet. Once every few seconds, he twirls his sickle in his right hand creating a slight whooshing sound, but aside from that he's nearly silent while traversing the map.

Power: Grip of Death

Through a combination of a potent chase power and a pressuring clock, the Thanatos demands skill and wit from both those playing as and those playing against him. Reaper's Scythe acts as a pressuring projectile with the chance to instantly down Survivors, while injured Survivors are forced to get healed quickly lest Countdown initiate Grim Hunt, during which time the Thanatos hunts for souls with immense fervor. The Thanatos is able to manipulate when the countdown concludes by setting a Survivor's Time of Death, able to change a Survivor's timer by 10 seconds either forward or backward.

Reaper's Scythe

Reaper's Scythe is able to be charged by holding the Power Button, during which time the Thanatos spins his sickle rapidly in his hand and is slowed to 2.8 m/s. After at least 0.8 seconds of charging, the Thanatos can teleport the sickle forwards, with the distance being based on the length of the charge. At 0.8 seconds of charging, the sickle is teleported 4 meters ahead of the Thanatos, but at 1.6 seconds of charging it's teleported as far as 12 meters.

The charge can be cancelled by releasing the Power Button, and the teleport is initiated by pressing the Attack Button. Pressing the Attack Button before the sickle may be teleported does nothing.

The sickle is unable to be teleported into an obstruction, but may be teleported atop a window or pallet, so long as it wasn't angled too low as to be obstructed by their hitboxes. It can change elevation with its teleportation, necessitating angling down to hit crouching Survivors. If the sickle would appear in a wall, it instead is teleported as close to the wall as possible from the Thanatos' side of it.

Once teleported, the sickle persists where it was teleported to for up to 3 seconds, damaging any Survivor that comes into contact with it as it spins horizontally in place. 0.4 seconds after being teleported or later, the Thanatos may recall the sickle by pressing the Attack Button. When recalled, the sickle immediately flings back to the Thanatos' hand, damaging any Survivor it comes into contact with as it makes a direct path back to the Thanatos, even able to pass through walls in the process. The sickle recalls itself after 3 seconds, regardless of the Thanatos' input.

A Survivor becomes fully immune to the sickle if they are hit by it, until it is recalled. Survivors may be instantly downed if they run into the sickle and then are hit by it being recalled.

The Thanatos cannot attack while the sickle is out. For 1.4 seconds after the sickle is recalled, the Thanatos is slowed to 3.8 m/s, and for 4 seconds after it is recalled, the Thanatos may not teleport it again.

Countdown

When a Survivor is injured by the Thanatos' Basic or Special Attack, they are afflicted with Countdown. A purple clock appears around their image on the HUD, with the progress of Countdown's 60 second timer being visible to all players in the Trial.

Countdown is removed from a Survivor when they are healed or when they are put into the Dying State by any means. There is no limit to the number of Survivors that can be afflicted with Countdown.

When Countdown's full 60 seconds pass, Grim Hunt is activated. All Survivors in the Trial scream, revealing their location for 4 seconds, and the Thanatos gains a 10% Haste Status Effect for the next 20 seconds. Even if Grim Hunt is already active, it can be activated again if another Survivor's Countdown is completed. The Haste granted by Grim Hunt stacks in duration only.

Countdown's duration isn't solid, however. Time of Death gives the Thanatos two ways to influence when Grim Hunt is activated.

  • The Thanatos is able to accelerate Time of Death by holding the Active Ability Button and clicking the Attack Button. All Countdowns currently active are set forward by 10 seconds. This aspect of Time of Death has a cooldown of 60 seconds.
  • The Thanatos is able to delay Time of Death by holding the Active Ability Button and clicking the Power Button. All Countdowns currently active are set backward by 10 seconds. This aspect of Time of Death has a cooldown of 10 seconds.

While the Active Ability Button is held, the Thanatos cannot perform an action aside from manipulating Countdown. There are no movement penalties for using Time of Death.
