Player Feedback and Suggestions for Enhancing Dead by Daylight Experience

Hello Behaviour Interactive and fellow players,

I trust this message finds you all well. I've been an avid player of Dead by Daylight (DBD) and would like to share some observations and suggestions that I believe could contribute to enhancing the overall player experience.

Lately, I've found myself highly motivated to engage in DBD, making it my primary choice over my secondary game, Overwatch 2, even though I've become a bit fatigued with the latter. However, an interesting phenomenon has caught my attention – I've been playing Overwatch 2 more frequently than DBD. This discrepancy piqued my curiosity, leading me to reflect on the factors influencing my gaming choices.

After several days of self-reflection, I recalled a quote from a neuroscientist: "During a journey, we are, on some level, unhappy because we are not where we would like to be." This resonated with the situation in the DBD lobby, where players are eager to dive into the gameplay but find themselves in a waiting state for the start of a new match.

One aspect that I find less appealing in DBD is the lack of dynamism when entering new matches, which feels somewhat rigid. While increasing the number of players might be a logical solution, I'd like to propose some alternative suggestions that could inject more dynamism into the gameplay, allowing players to enjoy more matches in less time.

Upon completing a match, implementing an automatic alert system to notify players about an ongoing search for a new match could facilitate a seamless transition to the next challenge. This functionality could extend to group play, ensuring that friends stay together for subsequent matches.

Introducing an option that allows players to join ongoing matches to fill spots left by deserters could benefit both individual players and groups. For instance, if a group of four players leaves a match, the killer wouldn't need to play against 4 bots, as a new group of four survivors could join quickly.

In instances where a killer abandons a match, I suggest implementing a pause state rather than an immediate match termination. This would allow a new killer actively searching for a match to seamlessly take control of the room, eliminating the need to restart the entire process.

To encourage participation in ongoing matches, an incentive could involve inheriting the points of the deserter. If these points are deemed insignificant, the killer could earn additional points, ensuring player satisfaction.

I recognize that these suggestions may require significant adjustments, particularly concerning the killer's connection, a critical aspect for match stability. Implementing these ideas might necessitate considerable effort from the development team, and I appreciate your consideration of these proposals.

Thank you for your dedication to the continuous improvement of DBD. I look forward to any potential advancements and updates within the game.

Best regards,

Onil

While most of what you're saying has merit, the part where Killers could take over if one DCs sounds off.

Most of the time, a Killer DCs because they are either severely outmatched, being trolled (both often come together) or are seconds away from losing (all Survivors are waiting at exit gates to click/teabag and the Killer just DCs to deny any potenti gate survival challenges and to skip the 2 minute wait time).

Having someone take over during those instance would feel pretty bad. Imagine waiting to start a game and then ending up in a game that ends seconds later or ending up against a God-tier 4-man way out of your league. Additional points or not, this wouldn't feel good.

Not to mention the mechanic would have part of it's efficiency paywalled since (I assume) a player couldn't join a game as a Killer they don't own/using perks they don't own. Which also greatly reduces the mechanic's potential for new players and/or players that aren't spending much on the game.

    All this is unfortunately true.

To it I would add the notion of inserting players into ongoing matches would ignore their matchmaking altogether. That would almost guarantee gross mismatches every time, far worse than the backfilling problem we already have.
