Not going to lie, the Unknown is kind of mid
He's a fine enough B-tier Killer I guess, but I dunno, I kinda expected more out of him. His teleports are pretty nice when placed in good locations and if you bring the brown addon it even becomes a pretty good anti-loop ability. Other than that though his main ranged power is a mixed bag, on one hand, it has a pretty great amount of potential and if the stars align you can get hits through walls and whatnot, but what will happen more often is survivors being able to very easily dodge his power, and even if you do hit them with your power you only have a chance or sometimes two to hit them before they cleanse their weakness. Plus, like most other ranged Killers he feels somewhat map dependent. There's also the fact that his projectile bouncing feels really...weird. DBD devs have never really been good when it comes to collision so I wasn't surprised when a lot of the time the projectile would bounce in a weird or unexpected way, or sometimes even colliding with some invisible wall on certain tiles.
Personally, if it were up to me I'd just give him the same mechanic Wesker has where the more people you have infected, the faster your power recharges.

I think he is mid in everything.
If you face Survivors who will not much try to juke your projectile its kinda easy but that is for every killer facing bad Survivors.
His power is bit tricky yet mid at best but also he is mid in fun too. He isn't exciting to play. Just very mid may slightly below mid in everything.

I've seen a few people say you can place his teleport, but the power description said it happened passively, and since there is no button prompt I assumed it was random. How are people placing hallucinations where they want?
And I agree. He can feel strong in some aspects, and really weak in others. Good survivors aren't gonna give you a lot of opportunity to use UVX, so every shot you take has to be right on the money. I agree the bouncing of the projectile can feel really weird, and I'd have preferred if it just exploded on impact with walls as well. Once survivors learn how to play against him he'll probably end up shoved around high C tier if I had to guess
2 -
I'm pretty sure if you hold out your power as your hallucination is about to come out it'll stop the timer, then once you release the power button it'll continue the hallucination timer. It's pretty useful to do if you wanna guard a certain gen or place it around a corner in a loop or something.
And yeah, I gotta agree with you. Even now when he's just come out survivors are still able to counter his power decently, which means after a week or two once everyone really learns how to go against this Killer I don't think he'll be that good anymore.

After a few games I can say he not really my favorite killer. I know few ppl love him like Otz, he even been saying all day how he thinks unknown is the best killer DBD came out with in a long long time. I don't really see the it honestly, the projector is annoying how it bounces off stuff and it still doesn't feel that rewarding to hit the survivor with it. I rather play Wesker, Legion, or even Sadoko than the unknown.

I do think it's power is fun, but I admit it's extremely easy to avoid and it doesn't have anything to do with dispelling weakness.
Most of my chases would last a ton of time because I wouldn't hug walls for hits through walls, easy to avoid snipes and if it had a clear shot I could just run at him, go through the projectile, and go back to my safe loop or pallet before it could M1 again. I got downed eventually, sure, but it's incredibly easy to do 2-3 gen chases against it.
And playing him, I can't really do any fun builds without gens flying and as usual, would need to rely in two or three gen regression/stalling perks.

He is a classic B+ or B- killer, depending on what map you play and the skill of survivors.
Once survivors stop being ''afraid'' of him he becomes a standard anti-loop killer who has some potential to win if the hallucination does spawn in good spot. He also has decent tri-gen potential extension.

I want to go on record as the first person to dub pressing the power button to delay releasing a hallucination "clenching".
1 -
okay but consider: bouncing things around walls and hitting people is funny and thats enough for me
4 -
Great point about doubling back and running through the shots, since the hindered effect for doing so is negligible.
1 -
I decided to get him because he does look pretty cool but he is extremely boring to play. His power isn’t really fun.
1 -
I'm having some fun with him, but not as much as I thought I would. Not sure about anybody else but it really feels like his main power is his teleportation and not his ranged attack which feels really...bad.
2 -
I've played every new killer on release since Meyers and I don't recall a single killer being as easily adapted to as The Unknown. He just doesn't feel good to play as and super easy to counter when playing against
0 -
Even running the add on for 2 extra seconds of hindered it's barely noticeable
1 -
Which is the more important point. That he is fun. And he is far from being bad, he is a solid B-Tier Killer, a Killer which lets you win games, but you cannot expect to win every game.
I think he is better than other Killers released in the previous months and years, even if those are stronger, but less fun to play.
3 -
Unironically, this.
I gotta say, my friend, I think this killer had the potential for something better. But it is actually pretty fun to play.
1 -
After a few games, I've gotten better at getting injures/downs with his power. It is tricky and it is something you would have to spend quite a bit of time to master.

I mean, they can still buff certain aspects of him if they think he underperforms.
Having a fun power and build from this is better than having a strong power and trying to make it fun for both sides.
1 -
So far he looks really weak to me.
3 -
I agree completely, my friend.
Though it seems fine in terms of strength. At least for now, while people still don't know how to play against it.

I've been playing him and getting orbital shots are really satisfying. You can also hit through walls if a survivor is close enough on the other side and gets hit in the blast range. With the bounce, you can get hits in crazy angles if you figure out the lineup. There's pretty much no cooldown between blast hits either so survivors don't make much distance. The buffs he got post-PTB is nice and rewards you for getting UVX weakening combos, and the hindered on direct hits is a lot better than I thought.
The teleportation is just a bonus to me, I'm so used to teleportation powers in DBD that it doesn't feel satisfying to me one bit, especially since it's instantaneous. I just use it for mobility and don't bother to strategize where to put my hallucinations.
It's probably too early to tell but I consider him low-mid A tier. We'll see how it goes in the next couple of weeks though once survivors play against him more and Unknown techniques get discovered.
1 -
Quite often by the time his power is recharged, the weaken effect gets removed by survivor, making his power not worth using, other than as anti-loop tool.
1 -
Played against one tonight who was placing them at gens and next to pallets. He knew what he was doing as he was shooting ahead of us and was pretty accurate doing so.
1 -
He does what many said he would. He is good for stomping new players. Everyone else counters is power due to most always look back. His teleportation is quite nice tho. He is like others have said fun to play but not strong by any means.
2 -
same opinion. he is going to be unpopular killer that nobody really plays.
3 -
just found out you can bounce projectiles off of the top of props on the map (like the cars on haddonfield) and honestly lobbing a bouncing ball that ends up hitting someone makes up for the fact that his kit couldve been better

Too early to tell but to me he seems to be like Singularity. Really good in the hands of a dedicated player. But average for most.
Ranged attack (that damages over walls) + quick teleport with no stagger gives him map pressure and strong anti loop while also being good at playing in a territorial manner. His projectile is also very effective when proxy camping.
Cleansing the weaken is fast but he can counter that by breaking LOS. Perfectly doable in most maps.
Seems like an A tier killer to me.

I'm already fed up of playing the killer. My opinion from PTB hasn't really changed.
Hallucinations are not a reliable teleport, because you don't manually place them. Survivors can dispel them as well which they are starting to do a lot more frequently now.
UVX is just stressful to use and i'm not motivated to try and get good with it.
I like the character but playing as this killer is just not for me. I generally don't like mechanical killers so it's to be expected i suppose.

-Damaging over and or through walls is extremely rare, and very, very map dependant.
-His teleport has a large amount of stagger making using it for anti loop very difficult unless you have his brown addon, making him somewhat addon dependant like Knight.
-His teleports can be removed very quickly by survivors
-His projectile really isn't good when it comes to proxy camping. If your proxy camping ans you hit someone with it they can just hold W and out range you, looking at you behind a wall. Either that or even if you do hit then then they can still go for a hook trade while your power is on cooldown. Trickster is an infinitely better proxy camper and so is huntress because they can combo hits extremely quickly, Unknown can't.
-Losing LOS is extremely risky as Unknown and not really a good strategy most of the time. Losing LOS means potentially giving survivors more distance and time to hold W, and plus the reveal mechanic is *extremely* forgiving with how it works. Unlike ghostface, as long as the unknown has any small part of his hit box or body outside, you can get rid of your weakness easily. Plus, his reveal has a mechanic where if the survivor is looking at you but suddenly loses LOS the weakness will still go down for an extra 2 seconds despite the fact that the survivor isn't looking at you.
-Like I said earlier, he is extremely map dependant. Loops that are too big to shoot over or hit survivors through make him awful. Open maps make revealing him a breeze, and indoor maps make hitting your power very inconsistent.
He's A tier on paper but in practice the moment you start going up against good survivors who know how to counter his power he falls apart quickly.

Hens and Otz already made an experiment with this killer and he did pretty well. And that was before the buffs he got on live. There where comp style restrictions. But he still won multiple matches against high level survivors. Against normal survivors he will be even better. People are sleeping on this killer just like with Singularity
-Damaging over and or through walls is extremely rare, and very, very map dependant.
Any thin wall works. Including shack. Its not that map dependent
-His teleport has a large amount of stagger making using it for anti loop very difficult unless you have his brown addon, making him somewhat addon dependant like Knight.
the basekit didn't feel that bad to me but i will test it better once i get home.
His teleports can be removed very quickly by survivors
True, if they spot the clone (the aura read they get is short range). Its also quick to summon more clones. And you can't get rid of them mid chase .
You can also leave a clone in a place the survivors have no reason to look and later use if for map traversal rather than chase.

Not being able to proxy as good as Huntress/Trickster does not make him bad at it. I do think Huntress is stronger overall but having a power that enables proxying and playing territorial is still advantageous.

You can still track survivors via sound/scratch marks/blood and game sense. Losing sight of them for a short while is not a big deal.
Plus, his reveal has a mechanic where if the survivor is looking at you but suddenly loses LOS the weakness will still go down for an extra 2 seconds despite the fact that the survivor isn't looking at you.
This mechanic is not enough to fully cleanse so my points stands. There is counter play to the cleansing.

Id say you cannot make a strong power be enjoyed by survivors. I know a lot of people say they like facing strong killers like blight, oni, billy and so on but from what I have seen they enjoy it as long as the killer player is not good, people love facing a bad blight but despise facing a good one.
1 -
Like i was saying in the other reply: got a chance to test the killer better and the slow after teleporting is not that strong. You can catch up to the survivor if you make the right read before the teleport. I did fine without the brown addon.
He can feel weak if you make mistakes tough. I can see why he feels bad to a lot of people. There is not a lot of margin for error and he is hard to play.

He is mid in everything, except boringness. He is king in this. Most dull killer for me right now.
