Engine Update of Some Kind PTB?
Hey just wondering, I saw some folks talking about the engine getting some kind of an update on the current PTB?
They were saying the game feels and runs better, the shop doesn't freeze when you click stuff, the hair and clothes physics are better, etc. I didn't see anything about it in the patch notes though, maybe I missed it somewhere?
Can a dev shine a light on this or anyone in the know? If that is true that is really exciting, could also explain some of the weirder bugs.
Thanks!

Live Game is on Unreal Engine 4.27 and the PTB looks to be on 5.2. You can check if you are on steam by looking at your AppData/Local/UnrealEngine and see the engine version of whatever game you had open.

This is big if so. I knew it'd start to happen eventually. After the devs mentioned UE5 awhile back and the possible slow transition therein, I've been eagerly awaiting the change. Hopefully this is but a taste of what is to come in terms of visuals and especially optimization.

So then the rubberbanding on PTB tells me dbd isnt suited for this engine.

Almost everything in the game cant handle it everything is pretty scuffed but it does look nicer.

Really cool to know actually, I haven't had a chance to launch myself, thank you!
I agree, this is a huge w for performance.
I imagine most of this will get ironed out before live, they have been pretty good about fixing buggy PTBs recently. Upating an Engine can come with a ton of random side effects but it will be better for the game in the long run.

Yea i get that but after playing this ptb they just need to scrap it and try again they broke everything vaults flashlights DH DS mori animations player models theres sno much im not even naming right now.

it is just the PTB, I am sure they will fix it before it hits live gamer, we got like a month before this releases. plus they have shown they are willing to delay stuff to fix it if they need more time, it'll get sorted I'm sure

There is no avoiding that regardless of how much time they take. They'll fix it. Be patient.

I don't know if this will improve performance on Switch, or make it worse. It could go either way, it could even do both at the same time. I'm tired of losing chases because of severe stutters mid-game.

I was wondering about that, I feel bad for the homies stuck on Switch, PS4, and Xbox One. I imagine that they probably wouldn't release it if it would impact a decent portion of the player-base in a negative way, so I wouldn't worry about it, it will more than likely help. Hoping that cross progression comes along in some way to save you guys soon.

Fortnite also uses the Unreal 5 engine and it's still very playable on the Switch (though I do get occasional lag spikes, but that could just be my Internet or Server issues).
So hopefully older platforms shouldn't be too negatively affected by the upgrade. It might even be an improvement š¤

I think it shouldn't make it live yet. Don't scrap it. But try it again at the next ptb. maybe even have a more constant ptb with the sole purpose of ironing out these bugs before they push the engine update.
right now, there is just to many bugs for them to push it as is. but to tell them to just scrap it isn't realistic. Its going to happen, it just shouldn't happen yet. It isn't ready.

That is actually a pretty good sign, good to know!
I am sure they will delay it if they need to, they had already delayed this PTB to begin with, if it comes down to repeating the Binding of Kin release/4.5.0 or just waiting a bit longer I am sure they are going to wait this time.
They will drop it to live in a good state trust. If not you can come back and yell at me lol

I've played this game long enough now to know that is not true.

Believe me I wish I wasn't. Loving this game sometimes feels like an abusive relationship.

Yes, the engine update was a really good idea now all they need to do is invest in a higher quality anticheat combined with EasyAntiCheat
