So you want a matchmaking based upon your playtime, not a ranking system.

There's no real way to combat deranking.
Base it on playtime, That'd be a whole big mess since skill level does not equal time played.
Base it on any gameplay aspect, people will just fail at the tasks required and derank.0 -
Yeah, the devs ranking system is bullcrap.You have people in rank one who shouldn't be there and people in lower ranks who should be in rank one. It's absolute garbage. I was providing a ranking/surviving analysis on my games, however they took it off here for some reason after I posted it for review. Not sure why. Maybe it is because they don't want to fix it.0

But more often than not, the guy with more hours is usually better than the guy with less hours.

You give an actual reason to rank up. Any other competitive game manages to do that and I have never occured deranking issues in other games beside DBD

Agree with ninja 100%. One option could be implementing an MMR/ELO system which could help place people at the proper ranks in a much faster time span.
