Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Thoughts on a Basis Attack Only Huntress

I have always liked The Huntress but hitting Survivors with Hatchets on Nintendo Switch is something I can only do when the Survivors literally let me for a Daily Ritual.

I really want to buy this skin for her because I love it and the unique Lullaby it has and I want to play as her in it.

Do you think it's possible to be a good M1 Huntress? Especially once my Huntress MMR rises assuming I get some kills?

I know she has a slightly slower movement speed but I figure maybe the Batteries Included Perk could help me out?

Have you ever played against or as a Huntress that did not throw Hatchets?

I suppose if you leaned into some haste related stuff it can work, in theory. You still need to deal with anything a normal M1 killer would need to manage like loop knowledge and pallets. As for viability, that's not something I can guarantee since I never really ran this kind of build.

Her Iridescent Addon 'Soldiers Puttee' also increases her movement speed to a 4.6 basic killer when out of hatchets, and she has a few addons that grant haste for a short time when hitting hatchets. Could work those into a build too.

It can but probably won't, it's like a hag chasing you at a piece of the map without traps, she will probably never get you without huge time-investment. You'd have to rely on Soldiers Puttee to slightly elevate yourself over hag, but you'd be still weaker than any other killer because you don't have a ability at all then.

Can you be a good M1 Huntress? Yes. Are you going to lose far more than any other killer in the game? Also yes.

I have a hundreds of hours on her alone and have played M1 Huntress countless times. Soldiers Putee will be a must run since it make you 115. Even then you are fighting a huge uphill battle as you’re essentially a M1 killer with a 45 meter terror radius.

My M1 Huntress build is Coupe De Grace, Bam, Pain and Pop. Because gens fly when you M1 only and when survivors find out you are M1 only they will W key like crazy and crush gens. But you’ll never be able to do good enough to go against very good survivors I don’t think you will have to worry too much about that.

Cool character, cool skins (I bought all of them lol) but very difficult to be an M1 killer. They don’t have any other type of controller support for switches? Or can you hook a keyboard up to it?

    CountOfTheFog Member Posts: 2,993

    No keyboard support unfortunately.

My main is Freddy and I could get up to Iridescent II on the old de-pip system with him.

The only difference would be movement speed when comparing M1 Huntress to Freddy, correct?

Not only is Freddy faster but he also has dream snares that slow survivors by 15% for 3 seconds which is huge. Along with a smaller Terror radius (if we count hunty’s lullaby as a TR), being shorter in stature (making mind game easier, and being unelectable to asleep survivors. Those are the main differences but huge none the less.

I have no doubt you can get to IRI 1 while doing it but you’re definitely gonna have to get sweaty, well I guess it depends on what switch lobbies are like.

It's Crossplay so I play with all platforms. I didn't realize The Huntress had a huge Terror Radius.

  • HexHuntressThighs
    HexHuntressThighs Member Posts: 1,245

She only has a 20 meter Terror Radius but her Lullaby is 45-50 meters and once they know you are an M1 Huntress they will treat it as a terror radius instead of sitting on gens watching for hatchets, that’s what they do against me whenever I try it. Just something to keep in mind. Just play a handful of matches and see how it goes before you make a decision. And RIP on the cross play, these PC players stay sweaty AF.

Oh wow, I didn't know the Lullaby's Radius was different than the Killers TR!

I wonder what Freddy's Lullaby Radius is? Where do you go to find out?

In the bio in the store it only shows their regular Terror Radius...

I don’t believe that information is viewable in game. The DBD wiki page has the specifics of every killer.

Very helpful for character specifics as they have very intricate details for things like throwing hatchets

My advice for console Huntress is you kinda want to play her like Alien or Pyramid Head.

Obviously going for shots when you can is worth it, just so Survivors know you will throw, but you mostly want to use mind games and play for Survivors being locked in animations such as vaulting a window or dropping a pallet, then you just hit with a hatchet.

Taking add-ons to improve windup/recovery are good for a console playstyle. If a survivor commits to the window you score the hit, if they don't you can try for the hit and if you miss recover for the m1.

Like PH you can also fake where you pull up the hatchet and as the survivor tries to juke, put the hatchet down and gain distance on them, condition them that you won't throw, then actually do throw when they don't expect to juke.

Doing this you can actually do pretty good as a console Huntress.

  • HexHuntressThighs
    HexHuntressThighs Member Posts: 1,245

You can’t fake a hatchet to gain distance on a survivor. Pyramid Head can do that since he has almost zero punishment for using/ canceling his attack and he moves at 110 when holding his attack. Huntress moves at 77% when holding a hatchet and you lose a LOT of distance VERY quickly. It’s also a 2 second penalty for canceling a hatchet, AND the recovery time is TWO seconds lol. Which is insane, that means if you cancel a hatchet you have to wait 2 entire seconds before being able to swing on top of moving at 77%. Also they are playing on Switch not console, so it’s even harder.

    Switch is console too.

I play it in docked mode on the TV.

Even I wouldn't try this game in handheld mode.

Oh lol, well thank goodness for that. Huntress on DBD mobile is very hard lol. I play it from time to time. It can be a real nightmare.

  • UndeddJester
    UndeddJester Member Posts: 4,971

Oh I know, I was meaning more in regards to close loops, keeping people at pallets instead of holding W away. Looking back I didn't make any mention of that... I thought it and didn't say it... thanks for the fact check 😅

Players who know what they're doing it won't work, but at lower levels people mind game themselves a lot 😁

It’s fine lol, I’m just constantly arguing with people all day who claim she takes “zero skill” like she isn’t the most heavily punished killer out of all killers for simply using her power. The fact that she moves 77% when holding still is insane to me tbh.

You can just play M1 Trapper or T2 Myers.

  • CountOfTheFog
    CountOfTheFog Member Posts: 2,993

I also play quite a bit of Trapper and Myers. I've been playing mostly Killer lately as the bloodpoint incentive has been on Killer more than usual for me. I'm currently learning The Legion.

I have played a little bit of Huntress on Switch and using her hatchets is a challenge for sure. What controller do you use? I personally find that with the standard joy-cons, setting the sensitivity to 15% for both Killer and Survivor improves my game play quite a bit.

I know that sounds really low, but I think the game isn't well optimized for the standard Switch controllers and a lower sensitivity makes aiming the camera a little bit more precise and controllable. I recommend loading into a few custom bot games and trying out different sensitivities to see what works best for you. Hopefully you can improve with your Huntress hatchets that way. I think she's one of the most challenging Killers to get good with though, so I wouldn't feel too bad about missing your hatchets so often. I just play this Killer for fun, without an expectation to do well with her. Ranged Killers on the Switch are near impossible to play as imho.

It might also be worth investing in the pro controller or a decent 3rd party controller if you haven't already, though I can't recommend any since I mostly just use the joy-cons in a grip.

ok I have to admit I play almost exclusively handheld (like to lay down on my stomach and play on the bed lol)

I am also less than a potato so don’t mind me 😅

You will be playing at a disadvantage. You're both slower than other Killers and have no power, so I wouldn't go into it expecting to win. But if you're okay with that, it can make for a fun meme build.

You can somewhat take advantage of the fact that some people will try to play around your power. A lot of pallets are a 50/50 for Survivors. Dropping it while she's readying a hatchet is an almost guaranteed hit, so often times they'll keep looping and try to break LOS before you can throw it. If you don't use your power after all, you can sometimes catch up before they make it back around to the pallet. This isn't reliable, though. Once people catch onto the fact that you aren't using your power (or figure you need to reload), this'll stop working.

The speed at least you can compensate for with Soldier's Puttee, though it's ultra rare so you won't have enough for every match.

I use the official Switch Pro Controller (on my 3rd one now)

I'm in the process of training myself at a higher Killer Camera Sensitivity.

it's always been 50% now I'm constantly switching during my matches between 55% and 60%.

It's shocking how much of a difference 5% Sensitivity makes.

I'm interested in getting the sensitivity for my Killers up a bit as to be able to look around faster and do better in chases.

I played Trickster with no knives back when he was first released because I wanted his adept. (his emblems were bugged at the time, his power wouldnt properly count towards chase) It definitely wasnt easy considering he's fairly loud while in chase with how much he laughs and hes bright yellow. Huntress is louder, has a more distinct lullaby, and is taller. Playing a 110% with no power is definitely going to get old after a few games since youre handicapping yourself for no reason, and itll probably get old after a few games.

I really hope Switch 2 comes out next year, Peanits, so current Switch players can upgrade our consoles the way PS4 and XBOX ONE upgraded to PS5 and XBOX Series X/S

    Screenshot_20240510_161158_Chrome.jpg

It's not for no reason though @Shroompy. I play on Nintendo Switch. Throwing a Hatchet at 15 FPS won't hurt anyone unless they're literally standing still.

I just wanted opinions but I'm not ignoring the Hatchets for no reason. As I mentioned above, I'm hoping for a Switch 2 Upgrade next year.

Thanks for the advice @Rulebreaker 🤗

Have you ever played as Huntress without using Hatchets by any chance?

  • Shroompy
    Shroompy Member Posts: 7,772

I understand that playing at 15fps can be challenging as I played at that for over 2000 hours thanks to a dog PC. But wasting money on a skin for a character youre basically not even playing isnt worth it imo.

Only once in public matches. It suuuuuuuuuucks, but if you have fun with it, hey its a win.

If you're gonna do it, you're gonna struggle on the majority of maps. Any time a Survivor gets distance in a chase you are fighting an uphill battle. The only things going for you are the Omnidirectional Lullaby + small Terror Radius, and the fact Survivors will probably still convince themselves you'll throw a hatchet, so they may greed loops giving you free hits.

The add-ons you should use for this is: Iridescent Hatchet + Soldier's Putter. Throw the 1 Hatchet at the floor or wall from spawn and you'll be 4.6m/s for the rest of the Trial.

From there, perk choice is all up to you and your preference.

My 1st ever Huntress match that I played to win and in chaos Shuffle no less, and I got a 3K and hit 3 hatchet shots on Nintendo Switch! Omg I had blast!

I finally leveled up my Huntress. She now has all Killer perks unlocked at Tier 3, over 100 anniversary cakes and a bunch of add-ons.

I played a handful of matches, without add-ons, just to practice my hatchet throwing (I can't get the bots in customs).

If I go into a trial trying to get the Survivors to help me, I have to wear her default clothes. Nobody trusts me in my Baby Yaga cosmetic.

I'm getting better but still need more practice.

What perks and add-ons do you recommend as I'm just beginning?

Or is it best not to use add-ons until I get her base winding up and throwing speeds down?

    @HexHuntressThighs

I definitely wouldn’t use any add ons that will mess with movement or windup until you get the flow with her basekit. You could use Deer Skin Gloves to help reload a lil faster and then float between the rusted/ begrimed heads to make healing take longer. And you could use oak haft to recover faster so you’ll be encouraged to throw more, although you will definitely get used to it and miss it when you run out.

I’m under the assumption you will never use aura perks which is unfortunate because those are insanely helpful to practicing shots as it allows you to throw hatchets at survivors who aren’t expecting it which allows you to practice fundamentals like leading, windup and arcing.

I would use Corrupt Intervention, Dead Lock, Pain Rez and Lightborn since I know that LB is a perma run for you. You’re basically going to want to stall the game as much as possible while you throw as many hatchets as you can, that’s the idea I have for that build.

For advice I would say to never focus on winning. If winning is your priority then you are going to be way safer with your hatchets and M1 way more than you should. Throw as many as you can (within reason lol) and if survivors get in your face which they often do to try and get you to miss don’t give up and M1. It sucks to keep missing a point blank target but the more you keep trying to hit the more you will hit. If you see my videos or CoCos or spooky videos we still miss a decent amount of shots, but you get better with every throw!

Also changing your FOV to the 103 max will be a huge help as well. I play on 92 to help me be able to line up orbitals faster. If you have anyway to implement a crosshair that would help a lot too and there is nothing wrong with using one!

    Best of Luck! @CountOfTheFog
