Vecna is just another Stranger Things x-over.
Seriously, you could have gone with a drider, a mimic, displacer beast, or even a beholder.
You could have gone with Lord Soth, Strahd, Szass Tam, or even Lloth.
Vecna and the demogorgon were original D&D entities. You went with the stranger things version of the demogorgon, okay that's fine. Vecna was introduced in season 4 of stranger things, I only know that because I actually googled it. I don't watch the show.
But you claiming that this is licensed from wizards of the Coast, when in reality it's just another stranger things crossover, is just poor business.
I was really excited for this, and I even got my kids hyped up for this chapter. Hell, my wife doesn't play the game but even if she got excited.
And I am only one of your alleged 60 million players, so I know that it's pretty much pointless for me to say this, but unless you release a true dungeons and dragons chapter, I will likely not be spending any more money on a micro transaction.
But, looking at it from a business point of view you really don't care because you've already got my money, right?
Release a true D&D chapter.
You really want to make it interesting make it a mimic that can take the form of a chest, a hook, the hatch, or even a generator.
Stop giving us this crap

The Chapter has absolutely nothing to do with Stranger Things though.

Correct me if I'm wrong... but given Stranger Things lifts the names of their villains directly from D&D, and they took the name Vecna from D&D to represent the man who became an all powerful psychic powered being ans the main antagonist in the Stranger Things universe... doesn't that make it a D&D chapter?
Vecna is a name that has been in D&D from the very first edition, and has gained infamy as one of the strongest foes of the D&D universe...
This would be like saying A Gloria Jones Tribute band singing "Tainted Love" is just a Marilyn Manson cash in, and is not really a tribute to her... Not trying to rubbish your opinion, but I'm genuinely struggling to make sense of it...

I dislike the idea that just because one popular show adopted names and ideas from Dnd, that another medium can't do the same without being judged for trying to be like the show.
The Vecna in Stranger Things isn't exactly like the one in Dnd, and would, in the end, never be.
The real Vecna we have now in dbd is the character being depicted in it's truest form, or least as much dbd allows him to be, along with a great deal of references, details, and a map all specific to Dnd.
I really think you are just nitpicking a bit, though that's not to try and devalue your opinion.

It is a true D&D chapter with a very big bad from D&D as the killer. Are you actually a D&D fan if you call the godlich Vecna a Stranger Things character?

There are hundreds, if not thousands of monsters, demons, and archdevils in D&D, and hundreds of bad guys that would fit the narrative of DBD.
Any number of monsters, a harpy, an ogre, you can even put in a dragon in humanoid form, and that's the Mori; they revert to their dragon form and eat them, or use their breath weapon on them. It'll have to be a chromatic dragon and not a metallic dragon though because the chromatic dragons are evil.
For characters, there's Manshoon, Strahd, Orcus even, hell, I'd take Errtu or the Gorgon from the Birthright campaign setting. But they went with a D&D entity that was part of another crossover. That's my big thing.
I can make make a list of better choices if you really want me to.
But I am one dissenting and unsatisfied voice out of allegedly 60 million. Like they're really going to listen to me.

Here's the thing - they start working on chapters a lot longer in advance that it seems. If I recall correctly, they said they need at least 12 months per chapter development . So there's a good chance they had already signed the DnD license when they were still on the odds with Netflix/ST. There's a chance they did want ST chapter 2 with that particular Vecna, but with all things considered its pretty evident why going directly to the original source material was a reasonable option (or at the very least, alternative). As it stands, I think this chapter looks great.

You are trolling, right?

No, I am not trolling.
Okay, so we found out why they brought in Vecna. Apparently in the D&D world, he is trying to rewrite everything, in game of course, and this is their way of saying goodbye to the current fifth edition rule set, and then they're going to come out with yet another rule set.
So, it was a move more so by WotC then by Behavior; although I stand by my previous statement that it is a stranger things tie in. WotC could have used any of the major big bads for this. They could have had it be any one of the BBEG's in any campaign setting. Forgotten Realms is the most popular and I believe Ravenloft is the next one.
WotC could have gone with Orcus, Lloth, Asmodeus, Manshoon, Cyric, Tiamat, or hell, even Yvonnel The Eternal (resurrected or reincarnated) trying to rewrite the multiverse to where the dark elves come on top of the food chain.
They chose Vecna because of the stranger things tie-in.
That's just my feelings on it.

It's also D&D's 50th anniversary. Hand and Eye of Vecna were introduced in 1976, Vecna officially entered the pantheon of gods in 3rd edition. I'm justing waiting for the DBD Secret Lair for mtg. Stranger Things just made the characters more main stream.

You are clearly looking for something that is not there.
I don't play DnD myself (I play DSA/TDE and Shadowrun) but even I know that Vecna exists. And I don't watch ST either. So they went with the most known one.

An ogre?
"For our 8th anniversary event, we are excited to announce a huge crossover with Dungeons and Dragons! This is a milestone event, and to match the importance of the event, our new killer is of equal importance to the world of D&D! Introducing….. The Ogre! He just hits you with a club, job done 👍"
Nah man I think you're onto something here, who even cares about Vecna anyway we need Ogre in the game ASAP 😃
