Discrimination against *male characters* needs to stop, BHVR
(1)
Since the introduction of the new shop, we have had five "developer's choice" bundles. Here I will list them all (correct me if I'm wrong about them), not necessarily in the correct order:
- Clown & Dredge
- Mikaela & Claudette
- Yui & Kate
- Meg & Huntress
- Mikaela
In total:
Males: 1 feature
Females: 7 features (out of which Mikaela got featured twice)
Other: 1 feature
When on Earth will we get a male character again in this bundle? Not to mention, when will we get a male survivor in this Developer's Choice bundle?? After 5 weeks , still no single male survivor in these DC bundles.
(2)
Then, the current deep rift: 3 female survivors (Mikaela, Zarina & Nea), 0 male survivors. And Nea just got a deep rift outfit in the last rift. Hello??
(3)
During the last Halloween event, this is who got free Halloween outfits:
Male - 1 shirt (Vittorio) + 1 full outfit (Knight)
Female - 6 shirts (Nea, Kate, Yui, Mikaela, Haddie & Élodie), and 1 full outfit (Meg)
Store - 1 male (David) & 3 females (Haddie, Yun-Jin & Feng Min)
Do I really need to say more? When can I expect a bundle for a male survivor? If you keep adding male survivors to the game, then please take care of them and their cosmetics. At least one would expect you to.

The male survivors do feel like an afterthought a lot of the time, not going to lie.

Resident Evil survivors
At the release, the faces of Jill, Claire & Chris were not true to the original. After some time, BHVR has adjusted Jill's and Claire's face, to much more closely resemble the original faces (from RE games).
Guess who still doesn't have his face adjusted: Chris Redfield. A male survivor. And he doesn't have his iconic BSAA outfit, for some reason. When can we expect Chris Redfield to have his face adjusted to look like his RE 5 self? And when can we expect his RE 5 outfit on him? (currently, the outfit is only worn by Felix Richter)

I love and play all of the survivors, but mostly males. I am very close to having my 2nd P 100 too (I have Ace, and soon Jonah). I've bought a LOT of auric cells a few weeks ago, anticipating a weekly bundle that could catch my eye…. and still nothing. I bought Felix's outfit recently on a sale, and also David's outfit from the last week's sale. I bought the charm bundle with David's figurine.
I have the money, but BHVR is not giving me what I want. Male survivors' outfit are most likely selling less than females' in general, so having these weekly bundles as a chance to sell those male survivors' outfit (by creating a discount) seems like a great opportunity. I don't get why this hasn't been happening at all.
2 -
in before people start saying its cause female skins get bought more so its a smart buisness move.
why do you think female skins get bought more? cause females have the better skins wich mean they bring more money wich means they get more good skins. repeat at infinitum
8 -
But why do you think ppl continue to buy these female skins. Because they keep making them more than their counterpart through rifts, discounts like these, etc. They can definitely make good skins for male survivors. They choose not to because they rather take the easy route.
But personally I really have started to not care recently. Because it really saves money for me to not buy skins in this game and spend it on other things. So bhvr and I kinda wins in a way.
2 -
Also, I really don't get why this week's Dev bundle has 2 Mikaela skins. Like, there is no way that Mikaela's cosmetic sales are generally bad, that she needs this help. Just, no way.
If anything, the devs could use these Dev bundles to boost the sales of male survivor skins, since they in general sell less. You're better off leaving people buy Mikaela's skins at full price (people will buy them at full price, no worries), but discounted bundles would really help out male survivors (especially someone less popular like Jeff or Jake).
In my opinion, using Dev bundle discounts mostly for female survivors is feeding greatly into further spreading the imbalance of the popularity between female and male survivors. The bundles are a perfect opportunity to get those male survivor cosmetics sell, yo. Why are you not taking it?
These bundles are a perfect opportunity to popularize male survivors (killers are a different story though, since people choose them based on their power, rather than appearance/voice/cosmetics).

I am a woman. True my mains are all men, but not because "I want to have something nice to look at" but because I see a little bit of myself in them. The odd one out here is Wesker. But tbh you don't see a lot of the killer you play.
There is basically a bikini outfit for Spirit and Huntress which are basically bikini outfits from Hooked on You (still wonder why we don't have the Trapper outfit yet). And there is an old rift cosmetic for Kate where her top is basically a bikini.
3 -
I actually have to wonder who's really doing the discrimination here. So it's true that they're promoting a lot of female character skins because it "gets them more money." But guess what? You see a lot more female Survivors being played than males. I know I do. When I play a male Survivor, I'm usually the only male on the team. When I play a female Survivor, it's a full team of girls.
So I say if we want BHVR to show more love to male Survivors, we need to show more love to them ourselves. Play them more.
I thought the same thing when people were complaining about the lack of Haddie cosmetics. I hardly saw anyone playing her. I still don't, even now. The lack of cosmetics shouldn't be a reason not to play a character. If we really love a character, we'd play them regardless of how many or few cosmetics they have. But apparently we don't love those characters enough.
4 -
same applies to female survivors as well
Lisa and cybil (2 legendaries for Cheryl) look nowhere close to the original ones in silent hill 1 and to this day their faces haven’t been properly reworked to have the likeness the originals had in the games
1 -
Well, for me cosmetics do matter. I've got finally got interest in Adam, since they've started giving him fun outfits. Before that, I just found him boring. I used to find Zarina boring, too, and that's mostly because her outfits just didn't cause that "oomph" within me. But she's been slaying with outfits for the past year or 2. Her style is very distinct, she's got a really good vibe, and now I really, really like her. I get bored of a survivor if I don't have at least a few outfits on them that I really like, because I love and enjoy changing cosmetics quite frequently.
I do play a lot of male survivors, actually. But a lot of people don't. Now, imagine if dev bundles offered male survivor cosmetics at discounted price… People would get tempted, because it's cheaper than usual. And then they would give a chance to those survivors. Instead, they have featured Mikaela twice, one of the most popular survivors in the game. I love her, she's one of my favorite female survivors, but she does not need help with sales. Especially not so much to be featured twice within the span of 5 weeks.
Now, if they offered me a Haddie bundle, I would be really tempted to get it.

Still awaiting for a survivor to get Trickster like cosmetics….
Oh wait I have to be a murderer and a villain to be a pretty/cute male that's how it works.
ALSO THE MALE RIG IS ABYSMAL, FIX IT.2 -
I would love such cosmetics for male survivors. I want more hair style and color variation, too. Like, give us pink haired Adam alreadyyyyy 😔and blonde Jonah.
0 -
I give you some reasons:
- Female survivors are generally smaller and easier to hide.
- Female survivors are cute (mostly).
- Most male survivors are just not interesting or are neglected from the start (Gabriel, Adam, Jonah, Jake). Those who have the potential are not mainstream enough or suffer from poor sylisic choices (Jeff, Ace, Vittorio, Dwight).
Haddie was called ugly during the PTB, because she was not cute and thin or had big assets like Jane.

There is one single Corpse Paint for Jeff. They could have done so many more, but no....
0 -
I wanna know how this community will treat aestri. Cause I haven't seen many polarizing opinions on her since she literally uses male animations and is tall like the male characters. Because if she's still liked then this must go further than just body proportions which would be concerning
1 -
For 1 and 2, cosmetics or the lack thereof isn't going to change that.
I think Gabriel's attractive, though I could cry at his lack of casual cosmetics. He does have the Iron Maiden T-shirt, and an upcoming Cats and Dogs collection sweater. Now they just need to give him some casual pants. And Dwight is my number one favorite Survivor, and there's really only one cosmetic I wear on him.
Sable seems pretty popular despite not having many cosmetics. (And just color variations of the default cosmetics don't really count for me.)
Haddie may not be attractive, but that didn't stop people from raging at the lack of cosmetics for her.
0 -
cosmetics are just cosmetics... who cares. They are keeping the male/female character ratio pretty fine
0 -
I care. Cosmetics matter a lot to me. And when we have to wait for ages for male onesies, casual clothes for Gabriel, or sale bundles for male survivors, and none of those are coming, then it sucks.
2 -
Fun fact about Chris: he was teased to be the RE1 version in the very first trailer he did appear with Jill, Leon, Claire and Nemesis.
But for some reason and without saying a word, on live we got the body of RE1 Chris (less buff than his RE5 version, with his STARS outfit) but with the face like his RE5 version. I literally never understood why they did this without even saying a word…

At least the hiding places should get better, so I can also hide myself with Jeff or David. It has been overdue for years. 80% of trees are too slim for male survivors. Filler loops and other stones/bushes of low height will perfectly hide any female survivor besides Jane and Haddie (and the Elf), but any male survivor will stick out their head above.
There are also generally cute/sexy male survivors like Felix, Steve, David or Renato, but for some reason, cute female Survivors are more popular than guys with a sixpack. Even though the community is thirsty for shirtless XXX.
If I remember correctly people complained about Haddie's lack of cosmetics because she had interesting lore and wanted to play her but she was missing her green cosmetics from the beginning. The first purple outfit after release was a set and the other one was a prime reward. So there was basically just recolor if you did not want to spend money (purple outfits were usually AC only back then).
True Haddie is not the only forgotten female in dbd but the most prominent as Zarina, Yui and Elodie all had their full cosmetics on release and also got pretty decent stuff afterwards. They mainly suffered from bad cosmetics and a bad release schedule later.
In addition, if you only promote certain characters through cosmetics (Feng, Nea, Kate, Mikaela) then those will get played more naturally. This means more money which means more cosmetics fotör these characters. Repeat till eternity.

It's literally wasting money on something unnecessary...
0 -
Then make smaller male survivors, maybe its the male rig which is the issue, maybe they should make cuter males.
The problem with behaviour is they don't even try in the first place. They just don't care, when half the males butts are down where their knees are. Some time and care or someone passionate enough to design better male cosmetics would just be nice.
AND CLEARLY they are capable coz Trickster exists, so what's the issue?!1 -
It gives me joy, makes me happy. Definitely not unnecessary (for me). I understand that a lot of people don't care about cosmetics, and that's fine. Cosmetics are made for us that do love them though.
1 -
Yeah, that was really strange. Although his RE 5 face didn't get translated well into DBD. It's quite off, especially from the front. I'm still waiting for them to fix it.
1 -
Yeah, this abundant promoting of the most popular characters is strengthening the imbalance between the pick rate of survivors. Honestly there's no justification for Nea getting a Deep Rift outfit two rifts in a row. As much as they look good. It could have been Jake. It would have been his first Deep Rift outfit (I'm pretty sure), and he would get some needed love finally.
And…. Meg gets a recolored outfit in almost every rift, it feels. Why not Claudette? Or Jake? I would love to see those.
0 -
It doesn't help also whenever a male gets a rift, its either licensed or incredibly ugly, everytime.
Nea sat with the most deep rift with Mikaela1 -
I believe 4 survivors are tied right now with 2 deep rifts each. Nea, Mikaela, Adam, and Feng(she has a green rarity deep rift skin from vittorio's tome)
1 -
I have been waiting for a Jeff Rift since the beginning. He has one single non-recolor rift outfit which is ugly as hell (the video store one with the purple shirt).
I wanna bet that he will get a rift after Sable and that she will either get a Void or Blighted outfit this year while Jeff gets nothing again.
1 -
Its not discrimination. Its just good business.
1 -
You should ask yourself what led to Feng, Nea and Kate being so popular in the first place. Even the OG females don't have that much attention in comparison. Vittorio could have become a very popular male character because he has an interesting story, but BHVR butchered him because they did not know what to do with a guy from the middle ages. The fact that he only has one remotely fitting cosmetic of the time period and the rest is modern or Victorian tells you everything.
5 -
That's only partially true. It's not like male survivors don't have any good cosmetics. There is something for everyone, really. But female survivors are more popular.
This might have something to do with many of them being rather pleasant to look at (basic human psychology), perks (if you haven't unlocked a perk yet, then you'll have to play that survivor to use that perk and after that you might as well continue to play them because you already put some BP into them) and lore.
1 -
I mean…. the bundle with 2 Mikaela skins in it… she's popular, those skins will sell well either way. I personally do love her and her skins.
But let's take Jeff or Adam… their skins must be selling less. Imagine if they put their skins in a bundle. Now that's when people would say, "hmm it's discounted, so why not".
I myself have bought Felix's Gold and Silk cosmetic recently, because it was discounted. Usually I wouldn't since it's a set, and I personally don't find it that appealing. But the discount incentivized me to buy it. I am susceptible to that, and others are as well, I'm sure. I would love bundles with male suvivor skins.
I personally think that that would be a part of good business. Put discount on what sells less.
1 -
It's a positive feedback loop.
- Female characters are popular.
- The most popular characters get more content.
- The characters with the most content increase in popularity.
1 -
Yeap. And here I am anyway, waiting for BHVR to become a gigachad and start popularizing less popular characters.
1 -
About 80% of the people in the world are heterosexual, on average there are more males on earth than females, knowing that it's safe to say most males prefer to hear a woman moaning/groaning/screaming over a male during their long playthrough. Female characters are generally smaller too so there's advantages. Then there's the cosmetic variety to think about. + All the things listed above.
1 -
assuming hetero CIS females aren't playing the game…
2 -
Looks like we can add another week where only female characters only get included. Yui and only female killers. So....are they gonna just shun male characters from now on or what?
1 -
Unless you can show with facts that the majority of the player base of DBD is either gay or any other type of sexuality than it makes sense to assume that most males on average are indeed straight based off of global knowledge.
2 -
I am tempted to forgive them just because they released the cutest sweater for Gabriel today. But yeah, all females again. I'm not surprised though. I do like that they added 3 skins in 1 bundle, it's a really cool idea.
Btw, this Mikaela skin was just featured for a week in the Developer's Choice bundle. :')0 -
But whose fault is it that the female characters are so popular? That would be us, the playerbase, right?
So what should we do? Should we plan a week where we play no one but male Survivors? Maybe even extend it to the Killer side where we only play male Killers (or "genderless" ones like Demogorgon, Nemmy, Pyramid, etc.)?
2 -
That's crazy. I don't even think Ive seen any OG male characters in the discount for this last week. Like, they don't really care. No incentives at all to even play male survivors.
2 -
Nope, we'd all have to buy up all the outfits for male characters to prove they're worth investing in.
1 -
In my opinion, BHVR has much more power to popularize male survivors, than the DBD playerbase has. 3 female survivors deep rift outfits in this rift (0 males). 6 or 7 halloween sweaters a few months ago for female survivors and just 1 for a male one. 6 weeks of Dev Bundles with 0 male survivor skins, and only 1 male killer (Clown). Mind you, killers are not picked based on their gender or size, but their power or ease to play.
Mikaela has already been in 2 Dev Bundles, and now she's in the "Special" weekly sale category, with the same skin that was just present in the Dev Bundle for a whole week. And I'm pretty sure that one piece of that same outfit was in another Dev Bundle a few weeks ago, when they mixed and matched Mikaela's and Claudette's cosmetics.
1 -
Btw, this Jonah outfit has been in the game for months, and it says it's "unavailable". I've repeatedly asked for it to be released, and nothing yet… I own every Jonah cosmetic (excluding the Twitch shirt) except for this one. And it looks really, really beautiful, and has a great mix-and-match potential. I just got my Jonah to P 100 yesterday, and I think it would be lovely if BHVR would finally let me buy this Jonah outfit ☺️

Who said these people are all playing DBD? Are you outright saying the opinions of those in your proposed minority don't matter?
1 -
I love this proposal: "mafia style suits". I think those would be epic and people would love them. I know I certainly would. There is sooooo much that BHVR could do with male cosmetics, but are just not doing it, for some reason.
Some things that come to mind:
- mafia style, like you mentioned
- outfits like chef, waiter
- onesies! it's a shame we still don't have a single full onesie for a male survivor. Dwight has the dinosaur fit, and I love it, but I want full onesies as well, like Zarina's penguin onesie, and Élodie's reindeer onesie.
- firemen and policemen outfits - I can already see how much people would go crazy about these, especially if you include leather pants
- construction workers
- concert / performance outfits (similary to what Yun-Jin got recently, ported from DBD Mobile)

I'm still waiting for the following styles:
- Samurai/Ronin with swords included on the back of your character
- More summer outfits i.e swimsuits & sundresses etc
- Pirate
- Assassin outfits
These are just a couple off the top of my head.
