Rework idea for Freddy
After watching Nightmare on Elm Street again, I wanted to share an idea that I got.
Freddy is at his strongest within the dream world, that's obvious, yet what we have now in the game doesn't really reflect that. You don't feel like you're playing Freddy, most of the mechanics of his power being passive. His chase power is so so, being a trap power that's inferior to similar powers like Hags traps or Clowns bottles. His only unique ability is an add-on which is to create dream pallette, but that gets old quickly. However, I think it can be the basis for something better.
Survivors would of course start the match awake, Freddy at his weakest, but as the match progresses, either passively or some other mechanic, survivors will begin to fall asleep. Each time they fall asleep, it becomes difficult to wake up until they can't wake up anymore. This keeps in line with the film.
The meat of this is in the dream world. Freddy should be able to freely change what he wants in his world. Creating fake palletts or removing palletts from the dream world. I think he should also be able to create fake generators or hide real ones in the dream world. Obviously this would need some very clear restrictions as this would be overpowered, balancing survivors being asleep and awake to keep Freddy's power limited.
Maybe this isn't the best way, but it doesn't feel good to play Freddy at all. You should be able to play as a dream demon and feel like you have power within the dream world. Like I said though, this is just an idea and I know that the topic has resurfaced recently. Perhaps keeping it going could encourage some much needed changes or a rework for our favorite dream slasher.
