Background Player Nerf Is the Reason I'm Uninstalling.
Not much of a discussion, just my personal reasons for leaving. No one has to agree with me, just saying my goodbyes.
I started playing this game when Moris worked after 1 hook, and DS stayed permanantly, must have been 2018 or so I think. Played my way up through the ranks, got rank 1, and eventually after a while I got bored, quit playing for a few years, and came back in 2022.
My favorite playstyle for the past year has been centered around the perk Background Player, this perk brought life back into the game for me, not only did it make chasing the killer while in chase looking for saves a viable strategy, but it made getting saves consistent if a killer wasn't careful.
I actually got so bored with the MFT Dead Hard meta that I ran BP Empathy for a month or 2 while MFT was still strong.
I enjoyed it while it lasted, I've used it for almost a year straight now and consistently had fun in this game with that perk. It was a viable strategy in game instead of just being some clown that's running around with a beamer being useless. If you made good use of the perk, you were providing value to your team, value that was on par or better than sitting on a gen depending on your skill level. With the recent nerfs, you really are just wasting time, your 50/50ing on hopes that the killer faces the right direction, and you're hoping your teamate isnt' next to wall. Before you just had to be sure of one factor, which was worth the risk, now killers who are aware you're going for saves won't likely get saved on again, unless you want to throw the game.
My point is, it is simply just another unviable strategy in dead by daylight, you truly are better off focusing on gens.
This is my reasoning, I wish you all luck in the fog, it's time for me to venture to new games.

It made getting saves consistent
Ah yeah, get guaranteed saves from 20 meters just because there is no wall killer can look at or survivor went down under a pallet not stupid at all and completely fair.
See ya.

If you were reliant on 200% ms to get a safe instead of the current 150% then so be it I guess.. That thing was busted and you could be way too far away, it has nothing to do with the killer not being careful when you can still get the safe from 30m away... The perk is still decent, but it is not free anymore.

I was consistent with flashlight saves since 2019 or 2020 without background player.
It made saves too easy.

Oh no, anyway...

Bye

So you can't have any fun in the game without having to run a busted broken perk that made saving absolutely trivial?
I somehow do not think the Fog will miss you.
5 -
survivors get strong perks way too often
6 -
so we’re just straight up lyin now huh
edit; ur the entitled skull merchant crying about survivors ruining your event aren’t u 😭 ofc you lyin
2 -
And I remember your post where you said hex: two can play is a good perk.
Looks like we've all said some goofy stuff, huh?
7 -
BGP is still amazing for saving players and now you're not overly punished for using it outside of saves. Pallet saves are completely viable and strong without a 200% speed boost for 5s.
1 -
Hm... Maybe not good, but it has synergies and can work I guess?
0 -
Like what? That perk is simply terrible.
There are way better perks to use against pallets.
Make the duration same as your stun/blind and it might be valid.
3 -
Combine it with enduring I guess, just because a synergy exists does not suddenly make it a good combo ^^ It is also a quite fun idea that the survivor suddenly gets blinded ^^ So maybe it serves a purpose as a meme perk.
Obviously there are better perks, which is why I said it is not a good perk... Enduring is a good perk.
0 -
When you want to use Enduring, then Spirit fury is way better combination, no?
Counterplay is exactly same, but Spirit fury is almost guaranteed to give you hit/down.
Short blind is kinda irrelevant, when many players can run blinded anyway.
1 -
Kind of, but people tend to just pre drop against spirit fury, while they might still take the stun in certain situations, I'm not entirely familiar with the perk, but since it also works with blinds... Does it also work with perks like blast mine or stuns that are not induced by pallets?
Spirit fury will work once, and then people just pre drop ^^
I guess, unless they don't expect it, I think it could use a bit of a numbers change.

Well, predrop is also going to deny main part of this hex. Blind is 100% optional too.
If people do it anyway, then it kinda means the perk is simply not threatening enough for survivors to even care and try to counterplay it.
Just a fact that survivors are not able to greed and have to predrop against Spirit fury can save you lot of time and survivors not always have chance to predrop.
1 -
You are still wasting 2 peek slots for people to pre drop and you not getting much out of it ^^

it is a good perk idk being blind when u stun the killer is pretty good
0 -
It is hex with requirement on top of it, where effect is worse than normal perk. In what world is that good?
The duration is shorter than blind/stun killer gets and it's not difficult to run blind on most maps, especially for such a short duration.
It's so bad I wouldn't even consider it noob stomping perk.

girl….. if u don’t stop @ing me. we obviously will never see eye to eye. so what is the point. my notifs are filled w you atm just completely disregarding everything i say on multiple different posts 😭😭😭

So you answer to my comment and then complain I answer back?
Edit: never mind, it was someone else. Well, I just like to share my opinion. Feel free to ignore those :) not like I am going to stop tho

Maybe he just mean the general idea of it and not the numbers themselves? I mean if the perk blinds you for like 3-5 seconds it might be quite good.
0 -
True, I would make it same duration as stun/blind.
Would be funny combined with dark arrogance to make it last longer. The perk would finally not be so bad...
1 -
I guess ^^ but would it then not get nerfed by enduring on the killer? And therefore be kind of useless again xD Because of the survivor is blind while you cannot move... How does that benefit you? ^^ Especially when you get stunned longer xD
0 -
Yes, it does do that thing.
Is that thing useful? No. The blind duration is too short to be consequential. You just turn 180 and hold w and it may as well not exist.
0 -
I wouldn't use Enduring with it. Just use it to annoy survivors with it as much as possible.
Enduring would get only stuns basically on current level, but blind would be still longer.
0 -
Probably a collateral damage, Background player was seriously unhealthy for the game, it even hurts the survivors in macro scheme
1 -
Well so still not a good perk, but an annoying one ^^

Jumping in to add that yes. Hex: Two Can Play is bad. But it's objectively a really really funny Meme Perk in the way Blast Mine is kinda funny as a "NO U" perk, so it's fine in that niche. Sometimes perks can just be sorta funny.
0 -
I never said it wasn't funny or that it shouldn't exist. I have the perk. I run it from time to time with hubris and enduring. What it absolutely is not, is useful. It barely does anything at all. Which is all I was trying to say.
Also I think blast mine is not a bad perk at all. I'd put it low B high C tier.
0 -
Background player was really unfair to go against. Pallet and flashlight saves were always viable before that perk even existed so what's this being worth quitting over? In it's current form, it still does the same thing just not utterly broken and completely devoid of counterplay.
2 -
I don't think Blast mine is a bad perk...
Two can play is a bad perk.
You can be meme AND good perk at the same time.

Pallet saves are still just as easy to hit, you can hit them from ridiculous distances either way, flashlight saves are much harder. Now you actually have to rely solely on positioning.
I had fine tuned BP not for cheap pallet saves but I learned every in and out of getting saves. With the new background player, it’s all about hiding, which is basically what you do without BP, no need to even run it, it you’re coming from a distance, reaching the save becomes impossible because to position properly for whatever direction the killer may be facing, you have to run, and while running you have to be close enough so that the killer can here your footsteps. Defeats the purpose.
This nerf did nothing to pallet saves, it just nerfed flashlights and flashbangs.
If you are going for normal saves against a competent killer, you are waisting your time and your teams time, gen rushing is just more effective. It was an entertaining playstyle for me and without it, I’m just not having fun with the options I have left in terms of viable playstyles.
