Sacrificing self for teammates is expected now?
Had a solo match like this so lemme ask you guys.
It was down to me and one other survivor. They had one hook and I had no hooks. We got two gens popped due to everyone going down with surge and pain res and we were just getting slaughtered cuz, better killer. Killer finds other person and hooks them. They’re now death hook and we have 3 gens left.
At that point, to me it’s a hatch match so I just waited for the other person to die so I could go next rather than playing the hook trade game to a 4K. Killer was proxy camping hook waiting for me to go for unhook, and because I didn’t come, they camped the teammate so they could get wiggle progress and they got off hook. The killer then downed the teammate so they could see where I was and let them wiggle off to bring the killer to me. Meanwhile I’m sitting on a Gen that’s 80 percent done, just to get some Gen points before I die.
Killer hooks me, I 4 percent and they tunnel me the rest of the way out and give other survivor hatch.
My question is, if you’re at 3 gens and it’s down to you now on death hook and one other person, do you expect them to go for the save and sacrifice for you? If they didn’t would you then help the killer?
My POV is if there’s only 2 of us left, I’m on my death struggle hook and the other person has no hooks, I’m gonna let go and let them attempt hatch. We are not popping 3 gens with a stealth killer and both escaping and there’s no point in them coming for me and giving the killer a 4K. Maybe that’s just me tho. shrug

You're entirely right. There's no survivor catch up mechanics in the game unlike with killers, so there's not really any reason to do anything but hide and hope the other person dies first.

If I'm on hook with only one other person left, I'm letting Death take me (though sometimes they rescue me anyway before I can "fail" my second skill check).
However, while I'd like survivors to show me the same courtesy, I don't expect it. If they wish to keep trying to survive and I get the opportunity, I will try and save them.

IMO nobody should expect the other player to come for them if the game's in an unwinnable 2v1 with multiple gens left, and if I'm in such a situation I will do whatever is necessary to expedite endgame and let my teammate escape
but also I will rescue any teammate that is hanging on, even if the game is unwinnable

I will let go on hook in that situation. Most team mates do. If they're holding on though then I'll try for a rescue in case they have an escape daily or something. I'll just take them at their "word" that the game is still worth playing for them. I don't care enough tbh at that point. Game is over.

If we're down to 2 with more than 1 gen left & I'm on hook i'll always take myself out & give the other player at least a shot at the hatch.
If I'm the one not on the hook & I know the killer isn't camping i'll almost always save & take a protection / down to give them a shot.
I run kindred so can generally know exactly where the killer is.
I won't save when killer is proxy camping one of us is just getting slugged at that point would hope the other survivor wouks do me the same favour i'd do them but having said that I don't especially get worked up or annoyed when they hang on & hit all their skill checks!

If the situation is unwinnable i'm letting go off the hook. No point struggling there and just exchancing hooks.
Now heres the petty me though. IF and this is a big IF the last teammate has been hiding and not doing anything whole match i might just hang there out of pettyness, but normally i will let the last teammate try for hatch if situation is that theres 2 or more gens left and only 2 survivors.

Play however you want they didn't buy your game , tell them to try not to die next time.

If I end up on hook in a situation like that I usually just let go there; have them look for hatch. Anything else is taking too long anyways. If they insist on rescuing I let them and then we see what happens but I absolutely don't expect it.
If the other one is hooked I usually try to unhook - if I make it fast enough, that is. And then we see what happens next.
If someone is on zero hooks at that point and hooks, until then, have been fairly spread out then I do wonder how tf they ended up with zero hooks and wonder if the situation were different had that person had traded a hook stage at some point - but overall it really doesn't matter at that point.

The aim of the role is to survive.
Many 4k's happen because of hero complexes.

I have a friend that does this and I just tell them to let go if the killer is proxy camping the hook for save. Sometimes I feel they expect me to die for them, and sometimes I will, but if you've lived the story enough then you already know how it plays out.
I don't really think it matters ultimately, but for saving time sake it'd make sense for person on hook to die so that hatch spawns and the game ends quicker.

What catch up mechanic killer has?

See and in my situation, the person on hook was now death hook and without a medkit. If I had run out and hook traded one of two things happens:
-I hook trade, the injured death hook survivor runs off and waits out hatch because they’re not coming for a save on me as a one shot with a proxy camping killer.
-I hook trade, killer downs me and then chases down the person off hook to slug for the 4K anyway.
So no matter what, had I gone for the unhook I was sacrificing myself for someone who would not have done the same for me once I got them off hook. But because I didn’t, the killer (who let’s be honest was just mad that I wasn’t taking the bait and was gonna make them 1v1 for hatch) decided to capitalize off of a petty teammate, to get me out of the game. 🤣🤣🤣 So honestly, I wouldn’t have done anything different.

I will let go on that situation and let you have hatch. No-one should expect save in that sitiation. I think in your situation killer wanted to kill you because he hadn't hooked you yet but I think teaming is wrong way to do that. I think for survivor to do that it might be agains't rules.
But it falls bit on grey area because sometimes survivor can think killer is farming and it's only happens at the very end of the match in 2vs1. So it can be tricky to say. Also sometimes killers just want to let specific survivor to escape too.

It is against the rules to help the killer and I reported the player for that. But yes there’s no way for sure to know what the killer wanted or was doing so I used my best judgment.

The other suv is completely within their right to obliterate the chance you may get hatch if they are going to die if they don't just like you are doing by hiding until they die you are throwing their game and refusing to contribute to the match so when they throw you under the bus can you be surprised. It may be unwinnable but they decided to play it out while from their perspective you decided to sell them out.
Personally, I would just die on Hook and gg go next but it's not like the other survivor is not justified in your post and the killer can do what they want they are still getting their win.

The later in the game the more killer sided it gets. There's less pallets, less places you need to patrol, resources against certain killers, and even if you play terribly as long as you get one person on hook at end game you can get a minimum of one kill though probably two or more if you run NOED.

2-3 hooks with 4 Gens done lead to 3-4K in the end happens much more often than 1 teammate dead at 4 Gens remaining resulting 3 escapes.
I feel everyone understand the reason why after playing for 50 hours.
