Vecna's "recover artifact" doesn't count for "With Your Own Hands" challenge

I recovered the eye as Vecna while the "With Your Own Hands" Tome challenge ("Kill 1 Survivor(s) with your hands.") was selected. Recovering artifacts from survivors performs a mini-mori. I remember any other killer's mini-mori counting as killing by your own hands.
Is that not the case anymore? Or is Vecna different? Or is this a bug?
