A Beginner's Opinion

When I played dbd with a friend, I told him that camping and tunneling is something that is frowned upon by many, and some even say that if they did, they would be reported.

Then he said, do you want manners and rules for killing people?

Then I remembered that there are many different styles of play.

Personally, after that incident, I don't have as bad an impression of the camp as I used to, but what do you all think?

I think they are often done when not needed. I dont mind a tunneling or camping Killer when it helps them win while they are about to lose.

However, nobody can tell me that they really NEED to tunnel at 5 Gens. They WANT to tunnel, but they dont need it.

My honest issue with tunneling is how people talk about it. Since people are beating around the bush with this type of stuff.

Tunneling, in of itself, is a choice. People can choose to not tunnel, people can choose to tunnel. The game is not forcing you into a specific way of playing, you are actively playing in the way that you want to, and there is nothing inherently wrong with that but acting like it is the game's fault is just objectively wrong.

I think people forget how much agency we as players have.

I don't think people being upset about being tunneled is a problem, I also don't think people who tunnel are a problem. The only thing that is a real problem is exactly what you said in your post: players thinking they have the right to judge other players' morals and value as human beings because of how they choose to play a video game. The notion that you will be held in lower social standing, and are subject to ridicule, ostracization and contempt because you are playing the game the way it allows is nonsensical. The people that are on self-righteous ego trips thinking they're working for the greater good because they consider Killers that tunnel as The Most Horrible People Ever Born are the ones that need a reality check.

Be upset at the game and the developers for letting the game be the way it is. People need to stop acting like the players have to police themselves and follow imaginary rulebooks. It's stupid and wrong.
