Did the devs ever explain why they basically made grass extinct on reworked maps?

I guess, because Trapper is in a good spot right now, but also the starting killer, and as people get frustrated with playing him, they will seek out others. Billy, for example, is just as accessible as Trapper-kun, but about one million times more effective and killy.

I will never forgive the Devs

I mean he really isn't in a good spot if people get frustrated with playing him. Maybe he is where the devs want him to be but the devs don't seem to be interested in making trapper a viable killer at all levels for the reasons you mentioned. I think it's a shame. The starting killer does not have to be bad so people buy better killers. I mean Tracer in overwatch is the mascot character but she's good at every level

trapper is anywhere but in the good spot.
his power is not working and no amount of buffs can aid it because it's not working in the most exciting way it's supposed to work. reduced to a boring area/loop denial.

They reduced the fog and the swaying grass way down years ago for game performance issues, in particular on the prior gen consoles and lower-end PC's.

Reduced to boring area/loop denial?
If you were/ looking for consistent results thats always been his best way to play

Not just for balance reasons, the maps lost feeling, some maps feels like you play on the moon lmao

I really hate how the reworked maps look my personal opinion of course i miss mcmillan's blue filter it was very nice
5 -
I hate that game play. It makes him like Artist. M2 at pallet, survivor forced to leave loop. Then he catches with Haste.
4 -
Yeah I never said its fun, but unfortunately its one of the best way to play him.
To actually respond to the OP tho, its because theyre teasing the upcoming killer: The Lawnmower

But how would The Lawnmower grow its power when there's barely any grass to cut?
2 -
I really don‘t like that they do that. Hiding in front of the killer in a bush is so much fun (when he doesn‘t see you and searches for you).
Maps look also way worse without it in my opinion.
Of course a 😭 for trapper.

Trapper is literally unplayable without the iri stone at this point, the survivors just run around disarming all your traps that took you 3 gens to set up.
3 -
Oh you think the Lawnmower has something to do with grass? Silly you this must be your first rodeo
He's just another anti loop killer
1 -
Noooooooooo

The reworked maps lack a lot of the character of the old ones

the best way (the fun way) of playing him which was also one of the strongest ways was going for traps in between loops and all the hotspots survivors had to take, making them extremely unpredictable and dangerous as they couldn't have been avoided so easily as survivors knew exactly where they could be.
this is what his power is supposed to be conceptually because you place traps and make prediction where survivors might path and since the traps were not visible at all, survivors had to second guess every bottleneck or optimal path they had to take.
after certain point long ago this stopped being a thing and traps became so visible, that there was no second guessing or mindgame. you just saw the trap and had to change your path and either make it somewhere else or get hit. boring

With the upcoming iron will changes Spirits about to be even more grass dependent

We need to demand more maps set in the 1960's. There was substantially more bush back then.
3 -
They buffed lawnmowers
1 -
Is that Eyrie?
Cause yeah, that one is the worst. Even indoor maps work more in Trappers favor than Eyrie.

I believe it was because of console performance issues. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong

Can't have any inconvenience for killers. It's a killer sided game now.
1 -
It's not that the devs intend for him to be bad I mean just look at what that perkless trapper did recently against good survivors can't mention the names but if you know you know lol the devs just want his power to be extremely easy to grasp the concept of so someone can get used to the basic m1 chase of the game because when they start out they're in a lower matchmaking pool they haven't hit the soft cap of the regular players yet so they're playing with other new players and learning chase skills, the devs keep him basic though so you'll get interested at the other killer powers having more to them than just traps

Im well aware of this since Ive mained Trapper for quite some time now, but this was only his most effective way of playing back when he took 5-7 seconds to place 1 trap. It was and still is a gamble to do so since placing a trap needs to give just as much value for the time you spend placing it, and theres a good chance that the Survivor:
-Doesnt run the loop the way you want to
-Predrops and then runs away
-Doesnt go to the loop at all
-Some one witnesses you place it and then disarms it (or even back in the day sabo it)
Now dont get me wrong, placing a few traps like this can be effective as long as you dont spend too much time placing them. Placing a trap where it also has multiple uses such as covering a path that might be intertwined with multiple loops can also be a good idea, but only do so if you have the time.

I think they forgot about him while creating a new maps

you had to do a combination of both.
either way the fun part about trapper is dead now. you can only play the boring way.
