Speculation of what could be the absolute best strat in 2v8

PREMISE: 8 gens are way too little, as killer you need really something massive to be able to stop 8 survivors with 4 of them always rushing gens.

  • Trapper: don't even consider, you won't have time at all to place traps with 0 gens perks, No Corrupt and no good bonuses.
  • Billy: doesn't matter you're fast, with no Instadown and all those pallets you will eat dirt.
  • Huntress: maybe considerable.

STRATEGY:

  • Play Nurse and Wraith, always.
  • 2: with Wraith, choose an area of them map you want to control, and stay around those 5/6/7 gens close together.
  • Wraith: even if you don't have Sloppy Butcher, you're quite fast. Use your ability to just injure all survivors, kick the gens, and constantly hit and run out of stealth as many survivors as possible.
  • Nurse: you're Nurse, when you're close to Wraith you have 3 blinks and you're buffed as hell..... WHY wouldn't you just control an area? Also, with the Wraith's ability you will go Undetectable! So, use your ability to down the injured survivor escaping INSANELY quick.
  • If survivors go down in a corner of the map in the 3 gen, just leave them there slugged, caging them is pointless.
  • From here, 2 strategies:
  • 1: REPEAT until everyone burns out of health states, possibly concentrate on the survivors close to dying.
  • 2: with Nurse, go across the map, go find the caged survivor while Wraith defends the gens, and tunnel them out.

And....here it is! Likely the most efficient 2v8 strategy!

You might want to swap Nurse with Huntress, but Wraith is REALLY important for macro play.

"Fun", in my opinion, isn't getting bullied by 8 survivors instead of 8, and getting also tbagged at the exit gate by 8 survivors.

The game needs to be balanced, on both sides.

24 hook states for just 8 gens is ABSOLUTELY TOO LITTLE.

Don't take me wrong, it doesn't need to be "perfectly balanced", but this is WAAAAAAYYYYYYY too much favouring survivors.

A question I have, not necessarily directed at you but in general, is: what's in this mode for survivors?

2v8 gives killers the ability for 2 killers to put a survivor in a no-win situation multiple times in a single match. Killers tag-teaming have the opportunity to make chases very short. What good is a vault or pallet if there's a killer on either side of it? Survivors also can't save each other off the killer's shoulder because there are cages, not hooks. In a mode that can give killers the chance to use survivors as a tennis ball, what is in it for survivors?

Also, if killers don't tag team and stick together, then what are the killers getting out of it? Chatting about sports and movies on coms while playing an otherwise normal match? You could do that on the phone or Discord without being in the same match together.

If the 2 killers chase just 1 survivor, they lose, even if they waste just 20 seconds on that survivor, because the other 7 survivors are doing other gens insanely quick, with no gens slowdown.

+ The cage isn't at all where the killers wants.

If you're just talking about gen work in general (unlikely, but possible), then I'll say: gens are not fun. Most people don't play survivor to sit on gens.

If you're (more likely) talking about survivors being able to escape, then I'd agree with that. And that's the only benefit I can see for survivors, a likelihood of escape. What happens between the start of the match and their escape is a lot less likely to be much fun for them, but if they're rewarded with an escape for putting up with not having the best time individually, then they're more likely to queue up again so the 2v8 mode doesn't dry up and leave killers waiting for an hour for a match on the first day.

I'm also going to take this moment to point out my fear when it comes to playing survivor: as is, I often play with one friend, and so matches are usually me and him and 2 useless teammates who both avoid aggro and don't touch gens. I fear this mode is going to be more of the same, but with 6 useless teammates who avoid aggro and don't touch gens. I can't predict if things will actually go that way, we'll see what happens when 2v8 goes live, but I don't even get to have my lute, I'm not sure I have any interest in being a survivor in this mode, especially not if it's me dying in most matches.

I think there should not be a buff for killers when both are close together, that's insane imo. Already a survivor is screwed in that situation.

I think some killers need to shift their expectations. This game mode is not meant to be a brutal murderfest where you grind 8 survivors to dust. It's meant to be more of a fun game mode. If 2 killers team up on a single survivor then chases should be extremely short. The game is not built or balanced around 2 killers chasing one survivor. The survivor has zero chance. As such, if this game mode is going to be successful then the experience needs to be fun for survivors too. Otherwise killer queue times will be abysmally long.

With all of that said, this is not going to be the final iteration of 2v8. Consider the first experience as a 'beta' or 'alpha' version. If the balance is too broken one way or the other then things can change in future versions. The gen speed might just be too fast. I think there are better solutions then adding more gens that need to be completed. For instance, what if all gens lost a small amount of progress whenever killers send a survivor to a cage? Or perhaps, killers could gain "charges" whenever they send a survivor to a cage and when the killer kicks a gen the killer spends all charges to do damage to the generator?

Not sure, it's not like killers can do anything anyway

No perk means no information, no chase, no regression, they don't really have anything

I can already see it being a campifire fest to be honest

I don't know if 8 gens is the right amount, but the assumption that the ratio of survivors to gens should be 4:5 is flawed.

Survivors don't have 5 gens to do because there are 4 of them. Typically more than one survivor will be engaged with the killer the majority of the time.

And then you have the fact that 2 survivors remaining are more or less unable to complete gens if there are multiple remaining. 4:5 would then translate to 2 survivors requiring 2.5 gens to repair, but that's not happening, they'd be lucky to get 1.

So it's not 4:5 as a rule, it just happens that 5 gens is the right number for 4 survivors.

You need to factor in how many survivors are engaged with the killer, and how quickly the game can progress to only 2 survivors remaining. In a 2 v 8 scenario you could well have 4 survivors engaged with the killers at any given time (2 on hook and 2 in chase, or 2 going for a save, give or take), and it may well be that it's probable that you eliminate 6 survivors before 6 gens are complete.
