Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Blight Rework: Debuff, QOL , Less Map-Dependency and MoreFun!

How many people are currently unhappy with Blight?

Blight has been nerfed significantly since the old days (But he is still in S tier).
The collision changes took away HugTech, but he is now easier to understand and use.

I actually feel that he is in a good position right now. What is there to be dissatisfied with?

Aside from his strength, I'll be honest with you, he's a bit boring right now.
Skill Expression and refreshing speed, not a strong but attractive add-on, etc…

The changes I am proposing may push him out of the S tier, but I am sure they will make practicing with him and facing him as a survivor much more enjoyable!

But first, to simplify the explanation, we will define some terms.

  • Rush (first rush that cannot attack) → Blighted Rush
  • When referring to both Blighted Rush and Lethal Rush → Rush

Okey. Let's get started!

First, I'll make some major changes to his base kit.

  1. Set movement Speed to 4.4m/s(current 4.6).
  2. Set the basic Rush speed to 8.4m/s (current 9.2).
  3. Set missed Lethal Rush attack cooldown to 2.8s (current 2.5)
  4. Reduce turn rate during a Lethal Rush by 20%.
  5. Dose Of Insanity Mode and Dose Of Corruption Mode.
    1. It introduces two modes that can be toggled with the secondary action button, like the clown bottle.
    2. Mode switching is possible when abilities are not in use and during the Chain Rush Window (the time between Rush and the next).
      1. When the ability is not in use, switching modes will cause a short fatigue state (looking down and using a syringe) for 2.0 seconds.
      2. When the Chain Rush Window, switching modes will immediately causes a 3.0 second long fatigue state, but there is a 0.5 second input acceptance period after start using syringe, during which the Blight can start next rush.
  6. In Dose Of Insanity
    1. Every time you perform a Rush in this mode, you will gain a Chain Rush Bonus.
    2. Lethal Rush in this mode gain a Chain Rush Bonus * 12% speed increase (like Blighted Crow).
    3. The Chain Rush Bonus will be maintained even if you switch modes, but will be reset when the rush chain ends.
  7. In Dose Of Corruption
    1. All Lethal Rushes are replaced with Blighted Rush.
    2. Rush duration is increased by 15%.
    3. While Rush, you can slide across the surfaces of objects without detecting collisions(Just like Oni's Demon Rush with a time limit).
    4. If you press the attack button during a rush, your rush duration will be used up and you will start to slow down.
Collisions will only be detected during this time.

There were many changes, but that's all for the base kit.

Next is the add-on adjustments.

  • Compound Seven
    • Survivors hit by a rush attack will receive The Blindness for 20 seconds.
  • Chiped Monocle
    • The ring will only be displayed if Rush can reach that location (this may not be technically possible...).
  • Placebo Tablet
    • It takes 40% longer to destroy a pallet in Rush, but it instantly recovers 1 token.
  • Plague Bile / Umbra Salt
    • Increases turn rate by (5 / 10)% during Dose Of Insanity and (10 / 20)% during Dose Of Corruption.
  • Shredded Note
    • Increase token recharge speed based on held tokens.
    • Reduces recharge time by max 0.5 seconds when 0 tokens, increases by 0.1 seconds for every 1 token.
  • Blighted Rat / Crow
    • In Dose Of Corruption, Rush duration is increased by Chain Rush Bonus * (4 / 8)%.
  • Rose Tonic
    • Increase maximum look angle during a Rush by 15°.
  • Adrenalin Vial
    • Added 2 maximum tokens.
    • Reduce turn rate by 30%.
    • Increased max look angle by 10°.
    • Chain Rush bonus will not be added for the 5th and subsequent Rushes.
  • Alchemist's Ring
    • When a Rush attack hits, you gain 10% The Hindered for 7 seconds, but your tokens are set to 3.
  • Soul Chemical
    • If all tokens are used up and the survivor is hit by a rush attack, they become The Deeply Wounded and The Broken for 60 seconds.
  • Summoning Stone
    • Revert to the previous palette blocking effect.
  • Compound Thirty-Three
    • In Dose Of Corruption, you will not be able to switch modes in the Chain Rush Window.
    • During the second or subsequent rushes of Dose Of Corruption, you can press the action button to consume all tokens and switch to Lethal Rush.
    • After switching, for 0.5 seconds you will be facing down as if you were fatigued and will be unable to attack.
    • At the start of switching, Survivors around you will receive the orange effect that used to be in this add-on in the past, allowing them to know when it is time to switch.
  • Iridescent Blight Tag
    • Set acceleration of Chain Rush Bonus in Dose Of Insanity to (Chain Rush Bonus)^2 * 5%.
    • Increasse missed Lethal Rush attack cooldown to 20%.
    • Token recharge time increased by 10%

That's all the changes.

From here on, I will explain the reasons for setting each ability.
It's a long read so I recommend you only read the items that interest you.

  • What is the point of Blight being 4.4?
    • The problem with 4.6 is that it's not that hard for him to hit survivors with his normal attacks.
In this case, he can start Rush immediately, just like the old AlcRing.
    • The reason I want to give him 4.4 and put more weight on attacks using his abilities is because I think this ability to follow up is the reason his ability is considered unreasonable.
    • That's why I've lowered his base rush speed in conjunction with the Chain Rush Bonus.
  • The validity of Dose Of Corruption
    • First of all, the reason Blight is 4.6 is because, unlike other 4.4 killers, it doesn't have a clear solution for window loops or palette loops.Additionally, Rush is difficult to use in chases on indoor maps, greatly limiting his abilities, especially since the collision detection update.
    • Dose Of Corruption solves these problems. It increases the number of loops that can be solved with Rush without increasing Insta-down.It also supports smooth movement indoors.
    • You might think that optional collision would make him easier to use, but no.Since Blight can't attack in Dose Of Corruption, you'll need to switch it out during a Rush Chain. This is the moment when the survivor disappears from Blight's vision, allowing the survivor to counterplay him.Blight needs to start his rush from a limited vision state. Therefore incorporating Dose Of Corruption into a chase requires a lot of skill.
    • Note that Dose Of Corruption does not increase the Chain Rush Bonus, so you need to use Dose Of Insanity properly to get the speed bonus and rat/crow benefits.
  • Is Chain Rush Speed Bonus OP?
    • Blight's rush speed is a big factor, especially at high MMR. However, simply being fast does not necessarily mean being strong.
    • The current Iri Tag is a 10% speed increase, but it's very powerful. Double speed is up to 20%, but it's not as powerful as Iri Tag. The 10% Soul Chemical that only existed in the PTB was too powerful, so it was nerfed on the live server.
    • Those who regularly use Bright will understand that most of the hits come from the first two or three rushes. That's why Iri Tag is so strong even though you can only use Rush three times. Hitting with a small number of rushes will have a big impact on follow-up speed and instant down.
    • On the other hand, even if you're using double speed and your fifth rush is fast, it will take time to recover tokens after you hit, so your follow-up speed will be slow. If you fail the attack, it's even worse. Chain Rush Speed Bonus is a double-edged sword.
    • 12% may seem insanely fast, but it's set to a slower maximum speed than the old 10% double speed.
  • Regarding add-ons
    • There are many changes to add-ons, so I'll just pick out a few.
    • Shredded Note now has a stronger benefit the more tokens you use. Even if you run out of tokens, it will take longer to fully recover than it currently does.
    • Alc Ring has regained some of its old effects. It may still be strong if used by a skilled Blight, but it should not be OP. The current effect of Alc Ring has been conditionally split into Rat and Crow.
    • Compound 33 is, in a nutshell, a return to old HugTech, with some serious restrictions. The risk of missing is high, and there's a timing when your gaze drops before attacking, making it very difficult to use effectively, but I think it has great potential.
    • Iri Tag is a Blight version of Hillbilly's Engravings. The fifth rush is an insanely fast 15.12m/s, but the downside is that the first few rushes are very slow.
However, I'm sure that this speed is packed with romance, which makes it easier to ignore the downside!
  • It's too complicated! Please explain it simply!
    • I've expanded his abilities in a reasonable way, giving Survivors more counterplay opportunities, restoring skill expression, and improving quality of life!

This is the third time I've opened a discussion about a rework that adds intentional slippage to the Blight base kit.
I fully understand that people think he doesn't need any more tweaking, but I think he still has a lot of room to be interesting.

Not stronger or weaker, I sincerely hope that Blight will be more fun killer!

I am very happy with current Blight, don't you dare to ruin him... He might become my first p100.

He would definitely get into worse state than he is now. First broken, then nerfed before he gets live, as always.

Blight is easily still one of top 3 killers. If you have issues playing him now, then try to watch a stream of Lilith Omen and try to mimic it.

You may very well be right.

I understand that what I have written is a very big change, rough around the edges, and has numerous problems.

Blight has been my main killer for the past 3 years since I started playing dbd and is my only p100!
Watching Lilith's videos I learned HugTech and MoonRush (which is no longer available...).

I still use Blight, of course, but sometimes I think of old him and miss him.
I wrote this to see if there was any way to somehow bring him from the past to the present without making him OP.

I may be a fool to cling to the past, but I am simply trying to see if I can make him better!
    Thanks for your input!

I can see you put lot of work into your rework, but this is such a gamble.

We have seen many failed reworks, which many of them ruined the killer for current mains, or had to be completely removed.

Blight is in good state, still strong but with more counterplay. Less broken addons, but still way better than most other killers.

If you get into such massive rework you risk completely losing your killer.

I would rather focus such reworks on killers that actually need it, because of their low pick rate / power level. I don't believe Blight is one of them.

Only thing I want for Blight are bug fixes.
