Are Balance discussions in 2vs8 pointless?

We all have our opinions on 2vs8... I love it personally on either side...

However one thing I've noticed, especially on Killer side, is this game mode is a totally different beast to regular DBD. There are certain elements that cross over, but if I would use a word to describe the game mode, I would pick bonkers.

I generally have a good handle in regular DBD of guessing what Survivors are doing at any given time, know when to kick gens, break pallets, when to chase, and when I should drop chase and when I shouldn't... when to steslth, heal or pre-run to unhook a survivor, the gens I should prioritise… However in this game mode there is so much going on, I barely have time to think or formulate a plan...

There is so much madness and I've had games where I've 8k'd as killers, 2k'd as killers and escaped in the same vein on Survivors. I've had games either side where I felt cracked outta mind, and games where I was a helpless putz...

The wild flip flop of how games go leaves me wondering... can we really discuss balance properly for this mode? It's been out a few days, and all I'm seeing is an iceberg that has barely had the surface cracked yet... I don't feel at all confident saying one side has it easier or harder, cause quite honestly, I can't tell you what is different from one game to the next 😶😶😶😶

    Pointless? No.

It's going to be a different framing from 1v4, but discussions about it are far from pointless.

Pointless is probably the wrong word, I suppose what I'm more driving at is, do you honestly feel its even possible to get a proper grasp on the state of balance in this mode within 2 weeks?

I've already seen numerous statements that sound pretty concrete in relation to balance... but I personally feel I'd need a couple of months at least with it before I feel like I could be objective on anything about this mode balance-wise...

I mean, maybe? I don't know. Either way, first impressions are still very important to give, even if they might end up being wrong in hindsight.

It's going to be an iterative process, so giving feedback is extra important this time around.

no. it is hard to decipher balance in just 2 weeks however first impressions i have off this mode is that generator go by really fast for killer and hook system encourages offensive chase killers and punishes any defensive killer play.

2vs8 DBD is like dbd battle royal. it is a lot more of party game for survivor. there is a lot less skill expression in 2vs8 for survivor. a lot of high end skill expression that exists in 1vs4 is not that important in 2vs8. you kinda win hard early as survivor or fall off just short of escaping.

The killer just has to like… completely dominate the game for like 6+ minutes straight and lawn more over survivors to win.

that is my initial thoughts on this mode.

I guess only if it's gonna become a permanent or recurring mode. I suggested survivors having to do 10 gens since that's double the normal objective, hence there being double the normal survivors. But seeing how the average survivor in this mode is not great, maybe they ought to leave it at 8. The killers and survivors having different abilities, which is entirely different from the base game with perks and all that, definitely complicates things. I mean look at how many base add-ons Nurse had to get to make her viable. Hillbilly has no instadown with chainsaw. Etc.

I think we're still in the state of discussing the broader aspects of the mode. Is the game mode generally working and enjoyable? And there are things we have no way of knowing, like if BHVR might have more survivor classes that they add to the game.

I think of balance discussion more as fine tuning, say change something from 15% to 10%. We're more meta than that at the moment.
