Advice on PS4 to PS5 Next Gen Upgrade for DbD
So I recently enabled cross-progression to transfer from Nintendo Switch to a PS4 that I bought long ago and barely touched.
I bought the digital DbD game on ps4 and repurchased the DLCs I needed and paid $80 for an online membership.
Today, I ordered the PS5 and it should be here Friday.
When I get the console, do I just login to the PS Store and download the ps4 edition, then upgrade? Or do I just downloaded the PS5 version and forget about the ps4 edition?
Any advice would be helpful as I'm not familiar with much other than Nintendo and I want my PS5 to have all the progress from my Switch that I synchronized with my ps4 last week.

Forget the PS4 version and download the PS5 version. You should be good to go.
Edit: obviously log into your Sony/Playstation account.

Yes, when you go to the Dbd product page from the PS5 store you will be able to select the PS5 version. Everything carried over seamlessly for me from PS4 to PS5.

Today on ps4 it's just constantly crashing, saying Dedicated Server Not Responding; Disconnecting... then the game crashes and I get a DC penalty.
Is this a frequent issue on the PS5? I never experienced this on Switch except for one three week period where the software would close.

Personally on my ps5. It's rare to have the game crash, and have to restart the game.
Yesterday or today it had a total crash. A survivor was glitched floating above and underground. To the point both killers stopped and just watched. Then it crashed.
As for server issues, can't connect etc. I don't think its the ps5. It's more on BHVR side
I can't speak for ps4. I've been on ps5 for 2 years now

I'm hoping ๐ that this stops when I set up the PS5. I wonder if the new mode and the free weekend are crashing the servers? My friend is still on Nintendo Switch and he hasn't had any problems at all which I was surprised by as I thought the PS4 would be much more stable.

No frequent crashes, problems for me (ps5)
When ever I have issues I check here, and "usually" other are having the same issues on different platforms . Thing seem to go back to normal after an hour or so
As for gsme disconnected in middle of match. It happens once in a while. But nothing frequently

I am on PS5 and I don't think Dbd has ever crashed for me on it.
Just download the PS5 version of Dbd. All your progress will be there assuming you're logged into your PSN account.

I'm reading the PS5 controller gets stick drift very easily ๐๐๐

I am excited for you... I imagine as a battle hardened Nintendo Switch DBD player, you'll come onto a Next Gen console and just start dunking on everyone xD

It does, so does the Xbox.
The technology is exactly the same as PS4/XBone... neither company updated it sadly ๐
To avoid it I would suggest getting into the habit of -
- Wash your hands with soap before you play.
- Buy some alcoholic wipes and wipe down the controller and around the sticks after each session.
(To be honest, this is also a good set of habits to get into for maintenance of a PC mouse as well... the crap that gets in between your buttons on a mouse... ๐).
If you do get stick drift, it's not too hard to disassemble and clean the contacts, though in my experience it's better to just replace the petentiometer completely, you can buy a pack of 8 PS5/Xbox joysticks with 2 potentiometers each for like ยฃ7.
This video explains it:

I did used to get stick drift on my Nintendo switch before - Iโm hoping the steam deck wonโt get this especially as it isnโt as easy to change like with the switch or other controllers (I play pretty much exclusively hand held lol)
time to buy extra soap and wipes!

Iโve heard that too but mine have all been fine. Ironically itโs usually my Nintendo consoles that get stick drift. My Wii U gamepad got stick drift when I was playing Breath of the Wild. A local repair shop agreed to repair it as an exception.
My factory release L Joy Con stick also finally gave out like 8 months ago.
Some of my PS4 controllers got stick drift (but only after playing Power Wash Simulator) I suspect that partial stick pushes can cause accelerated damage to the way the stick works.
Regardless, it can happen. I love buying controllers so its not an issue for me. I own like 4 PS5 controllers because I love the new colors they release.
Iโm not 100% sure but I think all modern joysticks use a metal rod and graphene to determine where in space the stick is pushing? Itโs so outdated. Companies need to increase production and make it so that they turn the sticks from graphene and metal rod (which the graphene always wears away eventually) to grid and laser. It will increase upfront controller costs but will save money over time since a laser and grid should eliminate stick drift.
Edit: Itโs also the main reason Iโm not buying a Playstation Portal, because Iโm not going to risk the whole thing not working because the cheap sticks are the first thing to break.

What do y'all do for audio? The game sounds so muffled with both my headsets.
Also, did you set the game to Performance Mode or Resolution Mode?

Hmmm? Muffled? That's odd...
What kind of headset do you have? You should be able to plug any standard 3.5mm jack headset into the controller and get full audio for PS5. If it's muffled, the standard check I'd make is ensure you've pushed the jack all the way in.
Or is your headset USB? USB headsets I'd imagine would need to support PS5 with an appropriate adapter, but if the headset lists that it supports PS5 it should be fine.
There is the official Sony headset, but although they don't expressly say it (marketing ๐), any standard headset should work as normal with full features. (Though, to be fair, Sony's Pulse headset is very good).
The PS5 does have customisable profiles for 3D audio though that modify the sound output to account for the size of your head, ear shape, bones in your face etc to make aound more immersive. This feature is new, so maybe you've just got a configuration that is bad for you?
Try alterimg/setting that.

I have this exact one. It works amazing on both Nintendo Switch and PS4. It is absolutely garbage on PS5. I had to make a custom audio setting.

I like resolution mode but most people like performance mode. Resolution gives you better visuals, performance gives you better frame rate. I also put the fsr all the way up even on PS5.
For audio I use my tv speakers or any type of headphones. The options might have a setting for headsets.

Hmmmm... I have the same one and no issues for me ๐ค๐ค๐ค

I found an old thread during my research and it looks like it impacted people here. I just wish it sounded normal ๐

Yo Count,
How you getting on?
If you're still having issues you can try resetting your headset:
One thing that would be interesting to know is does the issue go away if you turn off 3D audio?
1 -
Yeah maybe turn the 3d audio on or off. Also maybe try using an auxiliary cord with the headset so all the sound data gets transferred without any interference.
