This is what BHVR has said on the official Dead By Daylight Reddit:
So it seems plausible that it will become permanent at some point in the future, eventually.

The only thing that can fix the 2v8 queues is if survivors get some massive feature that isn't available in the normal mode, like voice chat or map pings.
Imagine how much better the survivor experience would be in 2v8 if they had map pings. If someone want to save a survivor, they could map ping the survivor to let everyone else know they are going for the save, so we don't have multiple people wasting time running towards the caged survivor.
In fact, map pings would be much better than the other classes too. If there is a high priority generator that needs to be repaired, and the killer chased you off of it, you can map ping the generator so other people can find it before it regresses back down to zero. If you can see the killer, you can just map ping them, and not need a special scout class to show the other survivors where the killer is.
The class system ends up hurting the survivors a lot, because some people think they are supposed to spend the entire game to run around the map healing people (medic) or following the killer around (scout). It's so generator inefficient, and this can't be fixed if 2v8 continues to have classes.
