I like lights out mode.

I feel like I'm the only one who likes it. More the second time around with the candles added. I like the spooky vibe of the dark and having to hold the light in front of you to see. More of a horror experience. I feel like crap that it's getting negative response from lots of people, bhvr will probably not do it again if that's the case.

I actually really like the mode in small bursts, it genuinely is scary to me! I love being jumpscared in this game, and I like feeling like a scary monster in the dark - it's why I play a lot of stealth Killers, for the jumpscare factor. That I can do it with other Killers too in this mode is super fun to me, it really does bring the horror back to DBD. I do think it's a good, valid mode that deserves to stay in DBD as an "every so often for like one week" thing, just for the people who do enjoy it.

The only thing is, I think a lot of people don't want that, they want a chase experience. That's ultimately why it's not a popular mode. But for the people it IS for, it would be really sad to see it go, since it flips the script and makes normally strong Killers weak but weak Killers strong, plus it's challenging to play with a lack of info. It's also much less sweaty than the regular mode, because there are no perks or addons so no meta. It's perhaps one of the purest tests of raw skill reflection in DBD and I do like it for that - in fact I would 100% lobby for a mode that is perkless and addonless even without the darkness. And because Lights Out is so basic, it can be iterated on.

The additions for Survivor are extremely nice to have to make it feel a little more fair. I do think the repair speed was slightly overbuffed but otherwise? This is fine. This mode is fine. It feels fine. I think the naysayers just don't like it because it takes away a lot of the variety, but is it really such a bad thing to have a dedicated horror or spooky mode in a horror game? I don't think so. For that reason alone, even with the naysayers, I cannot see BHVR 100% scrapping this idea - rather they will keep iterating on it and doing new things with it to make it more unique each time and just only have it for a week or so here or there. It will never be a multi week full month or extended affair like 2v8 or Chaos Shuffle ever, but that's fine. Not every single mode has to be for everyone and not every mode needs to be such a banger it is reused a ton. It's okay to have some "minor modes" that aren't as frequently used, and just pop up for funsies from time to time.

The only thing I don't like is that the special rewards in it are 100% tied to the mode, and if you don't do the mode you can't get them. I don't think the tomes should ever fully be tied to the modes, let people do them outside of the modes. Do that and you would have very few quibbles I think. And as for Lights Out? I have fun in it. I want it to come back, I really do. I always do. But I don't think it's popular, and don't think it ever will be. That's fine. Just bring it back as a treat every so often for those who do enjoy it.

    I have mixed feelings.

I haven't enjoyed it as killer. Maybe I haven't tried the right killer for it, but the killer queue is long so I don't feel much incentive to wait in it to experiment and see if maybe this time I'll have fun when I haven't previously.

As survivor, the same problem exists that I see in normal mode in terms of inconsistent quality of teammates. It's painful to watch my teammates make things more difficult on themselves (and as a result me). A short amount of time playing and seeing how the candelabras function should be enough to determine how to best utilize them. Instead, my teammates carry them around endlessly, they leave them on top of gens, they don't use them to mark important spots. I lost track of one of my quite-far-along gens for a while because someone picked up the candle I'd placed near it to mark its location (pretty sure that's the candelabra I soon after saw fall to the ground under a hook as someone went down making a save). In a different match, we lost the majority of the candles available on the map because they kept leaving them on gens and the killer kept destroying them. Survivors have the option to gain good info and give that info to their teammates with the candelabras, and the darkness can be really useful for hiding and losing chase. Survivors who carry the candles around often go down quickly in my matches; there are no perks, you have to use the darkness to your advantage, and carrying the candle throws away that advantage. I mean, survivors know the killer can see that thing, right? Can see it through walls? And how many of them don't realize there are no scratch marks? More than a few, from my experience.

Anyway, I hope if/when this mode does return in the future it at least keeps the new elements: bats, glowing eyes, candelabras. (I really like the aesthetics. And I like the strategic element of the candles; I'd just like it more if I had more teammates who thought strategically.) If BHVR doesn't force everyone to play it to complete the entire Tome, then it's fine as a limited time mode. Limited time modes don't need to be perfect; they just need to occasionally come around for a week here, a week there, to give players something different to do.
