Question for Spirit mains
Simple question...do you have your volume at 200% or something? Okay I can face a Spirit I won't run and I remain out of tall grass and somehow they know my pin point location. I'm not injured either. So I need to know are you playing your volume beyond max to hear everything? Yes I know Stridor is a thing but I don't think it makes the breath that louder even with headphones(unless my headphones are just bad) so it's just a simple question.

It's very easy to forget just how much sound survivors make, even when uninjured. The chase music sometimes makes it more difficult but when passing directly next to a survivor, all you will hear is survivors breathing.
On the other hand yes, most spirit players have adequate headphones when playing her which does make hearing survivors much easier. Being able to use that information for a hit though still requires it's own skills which becomes more difficult with lower quality headphones.

There's a video on YouTube that a Spirit main put together where they had their friend try every single survivor in every state of health doing everything, including hiding while healthy. They managed to find and hit them out of phase like 99% of the time just by the breathing alone. Fwiw, I think Saga Anderson (Alan Wake legendary) was the trickiest survivor for her to pinpoint. She's the quietest apparently.

Most spirit mains do destroy their ears with 100% volume yes. Me included. I do have very decent headphones too that let me hear the breathing sounds more clearly. Some survivors make more breathings sounds than some. Some are annoyingly quiet and phasing against them is a pain.
Theres a lot of audio issues right now so playing spirit is not fun..at least not for me .

I don't play Spirit anymore. But when I did, I played a high volume but nothing excessive, and I did not use any programs to filter out any sounds (not that I could as a console player).
Much of it is knowing survivor pathing, then letting your ears figure out the rest. I know there are some that really can track you off sounds alone, but that's not me.

I remember watching a video I don't remember I think it was like playing as every killer stereotype and Spirit was basically have volume at full blast. Even without headphones just hearing a survivor going down was enough for me to turn my volume down a lot. So I sitting thinking "there's no way players will destory their eardrums just to play one killer right?"

Two things to consider is that the TR and music can mask a lot of the sounds from a survivor perspective, for many practiced Killers these sounds are a whole lot more noticeable.
Second is that contrary to what many believe, you can increase your sensitivity for certain stimuly and decrease it to others, just as much as reaction time, there is a misconception that its entirely linked to genetics as if its a set number that cant be changed which isnt true, practice makes perfect. People who play Killer, more specifically Spirit or Dracula will often have enough practice to pick up these sounds and react accordingly.
I can advise you playing Spirit or Dracula (use bat form often) for yourself and you will get it after a while.

Not a spirit main, but when I play her, I'm turning the speakers off and throwing the headphones on with Dolby surround. Crank it up, and you can actually hear the healthy survivor breathing sounds, let alone their footsteps through walls and even injured sounds in lockers.

Chase music and the ! Sound cause hearing damage so blasting audio is a terrible idea for long term health. Sadly the best play is to just pray you get a level with grass.

Survivors make an obscene amount of noise when they move. You don't realise it until you equip Lightfooted. Survivors sound like a fat horse galloping when they run. Even when you crouch walking you make a ton of noise. It's bizzare.

If you stop running and continue walking, your character will still make a running noise, as if it were fatigued. To avoid this, you need to stop running and stay still for half a second, then your character won't make the fatigued noise.

So your headphones let you hear extra? Or what are you saying? Because if survivors just aren't making sound, I don't think turning up the volume is gonna change that.

No i don't hear extra but i hear sounds that my older headset could not. Like breathing sounds. Quiet survivors i can't hear or i can't hear through iron will of course not, but compared to my old headset this new one i got few months ago i do hear sounds like breathing better. Some survivors are quite the mouth breathers :D

Don't need to use a lot of volume if you have decent 5.1< headphones.

Im not a spirit main, but play her a decent amount of time. I honestly don't change my sound at all.
Right now however, I tend to turn it up a bit due to the weird sound changes…
Sounds feel off right now.

I too, really struggle against spirit. You either have to have specific perks equipped which is of course you'll drive yourself mad if you try and anticipate what killer you will get next, or really expensive headphones. And if you're a tad hard of hearing then you're likely going to die very quickly. Otherwise you kinda just hope for the best. Try not to be predictable but I feel that advice is somewhat insulting because why would someone try to be predictable lol. She's a very difficult killer to face.

I have very good headphones+an amp and still can't hear uninjured survivor breathing. I mostly just play off of experience+prediction when players are healthy and actual sound when they're injured.

I combine Windows 's Sound Equalization and use stridor so I can hear more without going deaf from Max volume, basically sacrifying a perk slot whenever I play spirit or Dracula but it's worth it in my opinion

Really? Not even Megladon who is very loud mouthbreather? I can't hear Ada or Ace at all but Meg, Jeff, David and many more are super loud breathers. I do play with super high volume and i do have equalizer from steelseries.

I can if they run. But no, I don't think I've ever heard idle breathing in this game. Perks of being a former musician I suppose. I've always assumed people are hacking when they say they heard a healthy survivor breathing in a locker, because I've never heard that across multiple headsets and audio set ups.

I haven’t played Spirit in a hot minute, but the times I have played her, never really adjusted my volume. Sounds don’t change just by playing her, so I’ve always preferred to keep that same muscle memory of sound. It’s also why I have hardly ever used stridor.

I don't think ive ever heard anyone in locker unless they are injured. Hearing idle breathing is hard and i cant say it happens all that often but sometimes i get lucky. Lately i feel like i can't hear anything anymore. Too many ambiance noises in the maps and the audio is all over the place so i play Dracula nowdays, and i don't have to hurt my ears playing him 😍
