Is the matchmaking this bad in other games?

Today I was playing some solo queue matches and constantly getting thrown into lobbies with brand new survivors, match after match after match. Did not seem to matter whether I won or lost. I have about 2K hours and have pretty good success escaping in solo queue if matched with competent teammates. But those matches seem few and far between.

I don't have a lot of free time to play other games, so I don't have perspective to know whether DbD matchmaking is any better or worse in other games. For those of you who play other PvP games, is the matchmaking this bad in the other games you play?

It's really not a mystery why the solo queue experience is so bad. It's not the killer vs. survivor balance. It's the fact that the matchmaking system is completely broken and you are constantly playing matches where you have no chance because you have 2-3 teammates who have no clue what they are doing.

Is it fair to criticize the devs for this, or is there no solution to this problem and it's just as bad in other games?

DbDs matchmaking seems to be uniquely bad in this regard. I don't know if it is the asymmetrical nature of the game that causes problems, but other games, while they have problems, seem to never be as bad as DbD when it comes to making balanced matches.

Dbd matchmaking can be bad but that seems exceptionally bad. It's possible the region you are in doesn't have a lot of players and that's why you get players who are brand new to the game. Most of the survivors I get are in the 2-3k hour range but I play US East

I've played other games, and yeah, DbD is uniquely bad. Of course, with other games, sweat level from players is implied. If I'm playing an online ranked game of CFB 25 or Madden or SF6 etc, it's expected that both players are going to be playing to win with their best stuff. There is no visible player ranking of any kind in DbD, and there's only one queue. It would be difficult to account for playstyle among 4 random survivors. And effort/sweat is one of the single biggest indicators of how a match will go.

I played Overwatch 2 for a few hours. I'd say that was worse.

But yeah, DBD's matchmaking isn't the best. Sometimes you're put against people that are obviously new and then the next game you face someone that's one with their character and has 100,000 hours in this game (don't ask how, they probably play in parallel universes as well).

Overwatch 2 has matchmaking woes like the ones you described above. I believe it is due to SBMM being too wide, in conjunction with prioritizing faster que times over quality matches. Those two are a recipe to have more matches with newer players or super casuals.

I … have pretty good success escaping in solo queue if matched with competent teammates.

And what happens if you have bad teammates?
