Question to the devs about the mori changes

Maybe this has already been discussed, but if so, I missed it. What was the rationale behind the changes? Was it in response to player feedback from both survivor and killer players about the current ways that moris are used, or was this an idea that BHVR put forward themselves that wasn't in response to player feedback?

The reason I ask is because I follow the forums pretty regularly and I have never seen moris being a common things being asked to be changed. I love this game but one of my main criticisms of the way BHVR approach the game is that they often make changes that nobody is asking for. I'm wondering whether or not that was the case here, as I have seen a lot of people in the forums stating legitimate concerns about the change and they seem to prefer the "old way".

Thanks for providing any background about why this specific change was made.

They haven't told us why, but the most common theory is that they probably plan to sell moris in the store in the near future. We see recent skins that come with special moris, so it's not an unreasonable theory. I guess trying to spotlight moris by making them available in every game to finish it off is their selling point. The Finisher Mori change has never been popular but they keep pushing ahead with it anyway.

I'd be curious about this, but I doubt we're going to learn anything about internal operations from a forum post, though things like that do seem to come out in more informal settings sometimes.

If I had to guess, I'd say what they are trying to address that the ending of games where the killer wins feel underwhelming. If its a game where the survivors win frequently the chase to the gates is tense and exciting with the game being engaging until the end. For killer wins, its seeking out hiding survivors and either a pointless chase or a survivor just standing there surrendering. Neither really feels that enjoyable for most players and killer wins end with a boring pick up and carry to hook.

In concept, switching to moris as an end game only event makes the killer win have something significant and interesting happen at the end.

Now I don't actually think it will work, or at least it won't do much in that direction. But that's the problem I'd say they are trying to address.

The devs probably don’t want to admit their idea is bad. I can’t see how this will make them money when they start selling new Mori animations. You’d think they’d want Killers to perform a Mori more than once a match in order to advertise them .

If they were smart they’d just make it to were a Killer can Mori the last Survivor as base-kit and leave the red-Mori alone.

This theory doesn't make sense to me, because locking Moris behind 4Ks would make them harder to get than the offerings do. The casual killer player is not stomping every match.

Its basically NEVER about feedback. Its just personal matter of the devs that want to do their own thing for no reason.

There was at least one time where they said killers were using moris to target survivors out of spite. It was in a developer update a couple years back.

    Total shocker, tbh.
