Does the in-game friend request have expiration?

About a week ago I sent 2 friend requests to teammates that played with me in a random game. They had the "global" icon which means they were not playing on Steam like me.

Now I boot up the game and noticed both requests are not there anymore, and they are not in my friends list

So they expire after a few days or its just a coincidence that both of them refused my request almost at the same time?
