Trapper gets all these buffs in 2v8
Why can't he at least get these buffs in 1v4 where it's even harder to down people and hook them? Not sure I'll ever understand the reasoning behind leaving him so weak in the base game

All those buffs are add ons already. Like all the killers in the mode that gave them 3-4 addons as base for the mode.

The 2v8 buffs are meant to compensate the lack of add-ons in this mode.
You have it backwards. Trapper is actually much stronger in 1v4 than 2v8 because in 1v4 he has very strong add-ons, namely iridescent Stone and bloody coil.
I'm not sure why people constantly insist on playing killers basekit or without add-ons especially for Trapper. If you feel like a killer is not good enough that's literally what add-ons are for. Iri stone gives him almost an entirely new power and is so much more fun to play, there is no reason to play Trapper without it imo, especially with all the event BPs it's no issue to play double pink every game.
And before you say "But F-tier so buffs etc.". His killrate is nothing particulary bad compared to the other basegame killers (he has same killrate as huntress). Most tier lists rate killers basekit or at least without pink add-ons that's why Trapper is usually low. But Trapper with Iridescent stone is an okay killer, definitely better than Legion or Bubba. I remember asking a popular streamer how he would rate Trapper + Iri Stone and he said it would probably be B+. (I don't remember who but probably Scott Jund or Hens).
EDIT: btw I'm not against Trapper buffs but imo it should be rather modest and just aimed at making him less RNG-dependent. Traps should spawn closer to the center and BHVR should fix a few annoying bugs that appeared recently like trap auras disappearing or Iri stone never resetting certain traps.

It’s probably because certain Killers are more geared towards certain mmr ranges. Which could mean that some Killers might have to belong more to low mmr than higher mmr.

The speed boost he gets when placing a bear trap is quite abit stronger than the 1v4 version and no addon combination can emulate it. Add onto that the 50% bonus setting speed 2v8 version has and he has the option of chucking down a trap JUST to speed after survivors since he's not wasting much time. Because of this, while 2v8 Trapper CAN use his traps in advance as a setup killer, he can also act aggressively and just throw them at loops while chasing for pretty strong effects.

i still feel like trapper with iri stone is pretty trash vs a coordinate team. you can bait trapper to kick 8 gens and block generator in 3 gen. his traps don't work if someone is disarming them which allows coordinate teams to have one guy that disables traps allowing the player to go through said trap, so even his most basic ability to disable a loop doesn't exist vs coordinate team.
Bloody coil doesn't change too much about his counter-play. it is pointless.

He should at the very least spawn with 4 traps and be able to carry 4. The limit of 2 is crazy for a Killer that has to set up and I can't imagine playing him without Corrupt Intervention.

This is the argument I hear CONSTANTLY about my Main too. "Ghostface needs X and Y therefore he is F tier and even then, he's F tier."
Addons are there to help make a Killer better and/or change their playstyle if you need or want that. They don't artificially strengthen anyone, they just help you with stuff on that Killer you might struggle with or make the Killer have different parts of their power be stronger, that's why they're ADD-ONS to the power. Do I need fast Nemmy zombies? No, but I LIKE fast Nemmy zombies.

I guess why does anyone want to sweat it out in high MMR anyway though? Like, why is that anything anyone wants? It sounds so stressful to me to have every single match be THE MOST competitive and to always have to play your entire best every single time, never making any mistakes, never slipping up even once, never getting screwed over by RNG at all.
But I appreciate there are options for people who do in fact want that.
