Freddy the 2nd rework. Joe's Hand Sharpens

Since Freddy is getting reworked yet again what should we expect this time? Now I don't expect a complete rework like the first time but what I personally would like to see are is a possible 2nd attempt of the original power (Freddy can't attack awake people has to manually put people to sleep etc to be more specific) but with micro sleep and him actually having abilities to use. I feel like he could have multiple powers but different from Vecna or Dracula I personally don't have any ideas but there have been plenty of community made concepts that are really well made. If anything I just hope he gets an upgrade from puddles.

In my eyes, a Freddy rework should combine aspects of his old kits to give him a more cohesive and faithful identity without being a borefest like a lot players found 2.0 and 3.0 Freddy.

I'd hope he becomes invisible and unable to harm survivors when they are awake, and that dream pallets become a more naturally occuring effect of the dream world than a secondary power he has to deal with. Give him an M2 attack that lets him initially put survivors to sleep when awake and damages them when asleep to make him a Nemesis style Killer. Buff Gen Teleport so that he can us it on completed gens.

Finish it with an addon pass and maybe a boiler room ability, and I'd be more than satisfied.

I want more then just dream pallets. Give us dream gens, dream, lockers, dream totems, dream exit gates all base kit. And each have a negative effect when survivors interact with them. Make being in the dream world an actual detriment for survivors. It's where freddy is most powerful, after all.

I really want his power to have a mechanic similar to the void where he can send an asleep survivor into the Dream World which looks like a boiler room. To awake Survivors how ever, they look like theyre standing still and they can snap them out of it to take them out of the dream.

A survivor would be able to leave the dream world themselves as well by finding something. maybe an alarm clock? idk. Either way it aint happening but a boy can dream (haha get it?)

Wait I thought you were a hag main when you first joined

Honestly, his OG power is infinitely more interesting than what he has now.

The only good thing he has is the teleport, which is also limited. The snares are boring and the pallets are funny, yet extremely niche. I’d like him to go back to his old power, with an improved teleport and the ability to place fake pallets, chests, totems and breakable walls.

Hag was never my main, but I used to play her from time to time.

She was my number 2, one could say. Knight currently holds that spot.

I stopped playing her when survivors got the ability to remove her traps without flashlights.

That upset me to the point I stopped playing her too. I don't even understand the whole chase music for her either.

I need him to be invisible just like how he used to be. 🥺

Same! I believe not every killer needs an unique chase music, and Hag's in particular is really bad, imho.

Deep down as much as id have liked a hybrid of both og and current Freddy, knowing bhvr that isn't going to happen. Tbh, I'm expecting an addon pass and some basekit changes like both snares and pallets basekit. But i have hope there's more that meets the eye.

I seriously think they need to bring back old Freddy in any type of way while having more aspect to his kit

Along that (probably less likely) I honestly would like to see Robert England Freddy Krueger as a legendary with his upcoming rework

I hope they bring back old Freddy, where you had to pull survivors into the dream world, with the current teleport and his dream pallets should spawn passively in the dream world.

Old Freddy might as well of been a different killer, he didnt have Snares, Pallets, or even his Teleport.

Freddy could not harm awake Survivors, and was invisible to them as well. Survivors could tell when he was near since his lullaby would play, but it wasnt directional and couldnt be deciphered through distance.

He needed to manually tag a Survivor with sleepiness to pull them into the Dream World which took 7 seconds by default. During said transition he would be briefly visible similar to Sadako when she Manifests.

Once a Survivor was asleep Freddy could harm Survivors, their aura would be revealed to him if they were outside outside his Terror Raidus (which was 24m) and they would suffer a 50% action speed penalty.

The only way to escape the Dream World was through failing a skill check, or another Survivor waking them up. Alarm Clocks did not exist.

Might of missed something but thats most of it, @GeneralV could probably fill in the gaps if there is any

    Well, I can help!

Old Freddy was completely different from the current Freddy, and in fact he was completely different from every other killer we've ever had. No character comes close to how he worked.

So, originally, there was no passive sleep. Every survivor started the trial awake, like what we currently have, but awake survivors could not interact with Freddy. They could be pulled off lockers, but that was it. They couldn't be attacked by Freddy and, mostly importantly, they could not see him nor his aura, even with perks like Dark Sense or Object of Obsession. Awake survivors could only tell Freddy was near them by paying attention to his lullaby, which wasn't and still isn't directional.

Once a survivor was manually tagged by Freddy's power, they would begin to fall asleep. That process was called the Dream Transition, and by default it took 7 seconds. During the Dream Transition, survivors could see glimpses of Freddy, similar to what Sadako currently has. This video can help you understand what I'm talking about:

After the Dream Transition was finished the survivor would be pulled into the Dream World. Now Freddy was free to attack them, but that wasn't the only thing that happened. Survivors in the Dream World would suffer from an action speed penalty of 50% by default, and, if they were outside of Freddy's terror radius (24 metres), their aura would be revealed to him.

In order to wake up survivors could fail a generator or healing skill check (sabotage skill checks wouldn't wake a survivor up) or they could be woken up by a teammate.

Alarm Clocks, Dream Pallets, Dream Snares and Dream Projection did not exist, all of them were added after his rework in July of 2019 (my worst day of playing DBD).

Edit: I forgot one small detail. A survivor that got healed from the dying state to the Injured state would automatically wake up.

I think that is everything, yes.

Unless we decide to discuss add-ons and strategies, then there is a lot more to talk about.

Woow how interesting. I’m going to take the time to dive into all the info. Thank you both! 🙏

Edit: Wooow okay so very different! Okay so why was he even changed in the first place?

  • Shroompy

Because at the time a lot of the playerbase agreed that he needed some changes since he did not do well with the meta at the time, and was regarded as the worst killer for quite some time.

The rework was well received at first, but then "Forever Freddy" became popular which was stacking regression perks and using Swing Chains and Jump Rope which use to apply an action speed penalty based on how many Survivors were asleep. He also didnt get slowed down while placing Snares and had 8 of them, so paired with the rest of his kit he was basically just a better, more annoying version of The Clown.

Now people agree he needs yet another rework since hes gotten nothing since he was nerfed a few years back. Im just hoping they make somethin more interesting than what he is now other than just number changes

Honestly, even though I was here at the time I do not know what was the justification for a full rework instead of a few QoL improvements. As @Shroompy said, Freddy was (wrongly) perceived to be the worst killer in the game by players who did not understand how his power worked and how to use it effectively.

Because of that his pick rate suffered, and many players often complained about a lack of strength, but there was never a need to change Freddy the way they did it.

Outside of those who had lost their favorite killer, generally speaking the rework was not negatively received at first. But after the Forever Freddy build became popular things really went downhill. To a point where Freddy was genuinely one of the most disliked killers in the game.

Ya know, not sure if I ever told this story my friend, but I remember my very first match with reworked Freddy, the day he got changed.

The only comment I got that match was from an Ace, and he complained about how boring the character had become. It has been over five years and that Ace's comment still applies.
