Another bad day: aiming for The Singularity
Hello, friends! I hope this thread finds you doing well.
So, over three years ago I made a post here on the Forums called "Just one bad day: aiming for The Pig.", which detailed my horrible experience trying to learn how to play Pig effectively, shortly before the Fifth Anniversary.
Needless to say, it was an absolutely miserable experience that I would have been happy to never repeat.
…However, a recent discussion made by @Valuetown ignited my interest towards Singularity, a killer that I bought with Iri Shards quite some time ago, but never played. So I asked my good friend @TheSingularity for some tips (thanks again, friend) and decided to give it a shot.
And now I can say I understand EXACTLY why most people claim this killer is hard to learn. I know from experience that learning a new killer in DBD means you'll have a bad time for a while, but I had not struggled this much since Piggy in 2021.
I see the appeal and I get why many Forum members here play Singularity. When my tactics worked they were really fun.
But that is the keyword. When.
This is really, really difficult. But I'll try my best to not give up, as I did Pig. If you out there happens to main Singularity, wish me luck!
And may the Entity help me. Again.

Im not all peaches and cream, you will come across annoyances as you would with any of the roster.
Such as tagging a survivor like 90% of the way before they run past a 🧱 😡

Or that one damn Felix who grabbed an EMP out of nowhere and the second I manage to tag him he got rid of it.
I was absolutely certain he didn't have one.
But hey, at least I got the adept! Some progress was made!

Forgot to mention that addon that shows surv aura when picking up an EMP paired with LP is also really good info.
Im going to play myself when I get home from work.

Would you mind explaining, why Singularity is so difficult for you?
I have never had an issue with him, but I am used to most of his aspects from Hag and Twins.1 -
I come with a very complex instruction manual.

Well written, and I will emphasise on the "when" part.
I can really understand the skill ceiling this killer has, from playing him in a couple matches. When his setup and everything works as it should, it really works (almost too) well. But in other cases, you just stand there dumbfounded, and ask yourself what the hell went wrong.Playing and learning Singularity is like riding a rollercoaster.

I... don't know, to be honest.
I wasn't expecting such a struggle.
Absolutely.
My feelings exactly, friend.

My issues playing Singularity can neatly be summed up this way: 🎮
When he first came out and for a long time it was just so unresponsive and clunky, aiming was poop, and it didn't help that every twig or leaf would block a pod (that one still happens). After his last changes I wouldn't say it got better, just less bad imo.

I wish you the best! I’m p35 with Singularity. He was very hard to learn. He takes a lot of skill but he’s so fun! I went through a lot of hell with him but it smoothed out!

Yep! I play with a controller, same as you, and he is indeed not very friendly for that.
The auto-aim helps though.
Thanks for the encouragement, friend!
I'll try to play a couple more games with him later today, to see if I can make some progress.

I played quite a bit of Singularity back when he came out.
He's definitely difficult, but he seems more rewarding now. A lot of his strength comes from knowing DBD as a whole. Gotta know where high traffic spots are on the map, gotta know weird angles and sightlines, etc etc

After re-reading your original post after "Hello friends! I was waiting for "This is Otz. 😂

Good to see ya here, friend.
Well, I wasn't around for the release of the End Transmission (though I did see the infamous "it wasn't programmed to harm the crew") so I don't know much about the major differences between release Singularity and current Singularity. I know the auto-aim was added later, but it makes the bio-pods a bit better for us who play with a controller.
Also, the high traffic spots are very important, I agree. Managed to get three survivors in quick succession with well placed pods on Ormond… which was immediately denied because two of them had EMPs, but it was a good play nonetheless.
Hahaha, that was not intentional, I assure you.

Because you spend all this time and effort setting up cameras, infecting, spreading damage, only to have 3 hooks at like 1 gen. His EMPs do too much, and spawn way too free and constant. They cure an infection, a teammate's infection, or both at the same time, AS WELL AS disabling a camera, or however many fit in the EMP range, all in 1 use. And then they lose infection for free upon hook. If that doesn't spell broken, I don't know what does. Nothing about this killer works. They vault a window, you tp on them, and the game decides to put you on the same side of the window you were already on. So all these built-in disadvantages literally force you to slug everyone or tunnel. Nobody wants to play a killer who's forced to do that, especially with the added frustration of having your power disabled all match.
That's why I don't play Hag anymore either. You do all this set-up, take every right chase, drop every bad one, but none of it matters because your web of traps gets destroyed in the 5-10 seconds you take picking up/carrying to hook, and the survivors can exploit to not have their cameras turn and already be 5 feet away even when you instantly react to a phantasm trigger. And of course, they can wipe away your traps for free now. They don't even have to chance risk and trip your traps. You could always run Rusty Shackles, but to me that's the "turn your brain off" version of Hag which takes no skill. With Twins you get the obvious problems: holding Victor hostage, long cooldowns and animations on everything, locker techs, wildly inconsistent hitbox on Victor, survivors get an eternity to kick him as well, and 2 survivors simply running together counters Victor (because the still-up one kicks him, and they're both back up before you can even get back to them).

Singularity is a fun change of pace, I hope you enjoy him!
I like taking that Nutritional Slurry just so I can focus more on podding and shooting and less time managing overall pod placements

Funnily enough, my friend, I do have a short list of killers that I own but never played: Xeno, Trickster and Nemesis.
It is truly unfortunate that you aren't having fun, my dear friend, maybe the upcoming Bone Chill event will help with that!
I am almost convinced the game forcing you to teleport to the same place at a window vault is a bug that never got fixed, because it is just… weird.
A change of pace, yes, but honestly I have been struggling a lot trying to learn this killer. I am afraid it will come to a point where the frustration is stronger than the satisfaction you get from understanding a new character.
Hahahaha, you aren't wrong, friend!

Good luck friend, I tried to main singularity before his first """rework""" because his design is just so cool and I honestly don't think I'll ever try to do it again, but I hope you have fun with him :)

Thank you, my friend, I sincerely appreciate it!
I will try to play even more games with him for practice, but unfortunately the situation isn't looking good so far.

Before I took a break singularity was my go to killer. His kit is satisfying but after about 3 games or so i'm kinda done with hi
I usually go back to playing on autopilot with clown but houndmaster has been quite a lot of fun tbh

Phasmamain?!?
I haven't seen ya in ages, my dear friend! How are you?
I never knew you played Singularity. Though honestly I am not sure if I would call his kit satisfying. More like an extreme duality, I would say. Either extremely fun or not fun at all.
2 -
Good to see you are still here too :)
And I'd agree his kit is very polarising. Some games you feel unstoppable and others you struggle to consitently even keep survivors infected. I think he's in a good place though besides the obnoxious slugging playstyle with his blindness add-on.

I hope you can have some Christmas DBD fun, my friend.
Ya know, I first started playing DBD on Christmas. December 25th, 2018. Playing DBD this time of the year is very special, really brings me back to better days of Dead by Daylight.
With Freddy's rework approaching I have to be here, my dear friend!
And yeah, I agree with what you said here. I have noticed my games with him became slightly more bearable, but maybe that was SBMM deciding to work for once and giving me less skilled opponents because it realized I was struggling.

I did get your message, my friend. I hope there is enough time for you to read the reply.
But if not, let it be written here you'll be missed here! You were a light in the Fog, my friend, and I wish you the best!

@LegacySmikey all the best! Hope you have success and good health 🍰✨
