Time to master a killer

What killer takes the longest/shortest period of time to master on a god like level in your opinion/experience and why? Obviously there are the in-game ratings telling you either easy or difficult but I still want to know your personal take on this as I just got told the doctor would be op which kind of made me laugh but if you ask people why they sometimes seem to have a point (he said if you spend enough time playing doctor you'd break loops easily for instance) so what do you think?

Hillbilly. Easy, effective, the go-to beginner killer. His chainsaw travels great distances, can be used to down inexperienced Survivors and even some experienced Survivors if caught in the open, it has priority over window vaults, it's ridiculous with BBQ & Chili, it can be used to force pallets against less skilled Survivors, he isn't DLC so you get him from the start, all and all he is the perfect killer if you want EZ and effective.

Doctor is also easy, though not as effective. There isn't much interaction while using his power; you just hold it and it go bzzt and people go aaah.

As for hardest, Trapper, Nurse, Spirit, and Huntress all come to mind.

Nurse, Spirit, Huntress and hag are definitely the hardest ones. They require a lot of practice and having played the game long enough to know how survivors move and be able to predict that for hits.

Trapper and Wraith are probably the easiest. Very easy to get the hang of and not a super high skill ceiling unlike the hardest killers where the ceiling is very high.

Hardest: Nurse, Spirit, and Huntress. All of them take a while to master but also have very rewarding gameplay.

Easiest: Trapper, Wraith, Leatherface, and Freddy. Takes literally no time at all to pick up these killers and play them. Straight forward abilites, but not very rewarding gameplay. They are all lower tier killers...Wraith is easily the best of of this bunch.

How is Trapper hard to master? Trapper is go-to first killer for most players, not Billy. All you do is set traps and hope survivors step in them. Other than that, he is just an M1 killer. Not that hard to master.

id say the easiest would be billy, not because his gameplay is the easiest (this spot woul dgo to legion), but because he is fairly easy to learn and gets really strong.

hardest killer is easily the nurse. she takes forever to be mastered and requires a lot of muscle memory.

Trapper is definitely not good, but it takes a lot of predicting to play Trapper effectively. Though I'll admit I'm biased because Trapper is my baby boy. But if you "just set traps," that's probably why no one steps in them. You have to think about what you'll do later in a chase, how to corral them, where they'll go relevant to what generators are completed and how many pallets/windows are in an area, how easy it is to predict the trap will be there for the Survivor... a lot of variables people won't even ever consider because they're already given up on the killer.

Also Freddy is another underrated killer who is not as shallow as he seems. There is a deeper layer to the mindgames available during Sleep Transition (especially with but not limited to Pill Bottle.) He's also a normal speed, short, low terror radius killer so mindgames with pallets work fantastic with him. Also, you don't need to immediately chase someone you've slept. Hitting them grants access to healing skill check wake-ups; without those, an uncoordinated team may have to rely on hurting generators just to wake up. Making sure as many people are asleep as possible is your most valid strategy. Freddy is all about slowing the game, not chasing that one guy you just slept and leaving the others to do whatever. Which is also why Class Photo is a little bit underrated.

I’ve never been a fan of Trapper. The first killer I started playing was Myers simply because I love the Halloween movies. Trapper is mid to low tier at best. I do understand what you mean by the predicting where survivors are going by placing your traps in certain spots. Example: if it is Strode house you should ALWAYS trap the two windows by on the roof of the Myers house, it makes them unusable. I just don’t think Trapper is as hard to master as Nurse and Spirit, even Huntress.

Freddy on the hand, I dunno why but whenever I play as him or against him he seems SUPER FAST. Chases always end quickly whenever I play as Freddy. Class Photo is great if you want to put everybody to sleep ASAP and Pill Bottle is great if you want to end chases quickly.

It goes without saying that Nurse is the hardest Killer to master. It's just raw mechanical knowledge and muscle memory however, but learning all of it takes a lot of time. Nurse is basically a fighting game character in a Hide-and-Seek simulator: you're going to spend hours learning the moves but then dominate the competition.

As for easiest? Contenders go to Hillbilly, Doctor, and Wraith but my pick would have to be Leatherface. There are no complexities to Leatherface. Leatherface is a default killer with an instadown. You play Leatherface by getting into range in an open area and instadowning: it's that simple.
It takes time to learn how to control Hillbilly's chainsaw. Doctor can be hard to master since you need to learn the range of your power and at what range you can stop a vault / pallet drop. Wraith takes a lot of gamesense to sneak up on Survivors and to know when to use your power to chase.

    Easy: Wraith, Leatherface, Freddy, Legion
    Intermediate: Trapper, Myers, Doctor, Pig
Hard: Clown, Billy, Spirit, Hag, Nurse, Huntress

Easy killers have very simple powers, not much to learn overall.
Intermediate killers have a mix of easy and hard abilites. Some parts require timing or gamesense, but they usually have an easy kit to fall back on.
Hard killers are mechanically hard or require good gamesense. If you mess up, you messed up.

Nurse as intermediate but Legion as hard? No way. Legion has a brain-dead power that can be exploited by a broken add-on. All they do is stab at you 28 times. Nurse is mechanically difficult and takes muscle memory and skill.

If you think only Tru3 plays Legion correctly, you obviously haven’t seen Monto’s Legion videos. Although just because few people play them correctly doesn’t mean they are hard to master.

You just have to learn the transition mindgame. Count to 3 then fake. Else he just needs to press M2 everytime he sees someone and get some basic know how when to apply pressure instead of tunneling.

Legion when played correctly is hard. Btw I forgot about Monto and other players my bad. Nurse is not difficult she's extremely straightforward. She's quite brain dead once you get used to how far your blinks go and how to predict survivors. I gave her intermediate because she's not easy for newer players. Honestly, I myself got good with her in 3 games. I know a ton of people who had her down in the 2nd game.

Killers in rank of difficulty (1 being the easiest):

    1. Trapper: He's pretty simple. Place traps, chase survivors etc. He's the easiest killer to start out/play with.
    2. Cannibal: Just as simple as Trapper but comes with an insta-down. Plus his teachable, BQ and Chili, is a good perk to get for easy Bloodpoints.
    3. Nightmare: Although he's the worst killer in the game, he's pretty easy to play just like Trapper and Cannibal. Just send someone to sleep, then chase them after they fall asleep. Easy to find survivors too. Just don't play against high ranks.
    4. Doctor: Moderately difficult in some areas and really easy in others. He can find survivors really easy and make it harder for survivors too. Once you know when to use Treatment mode, he'll be extremely easy to play.
    5. Wraith: Easy and moderately difficult to play. Just uncloak, then chase or get a free hit. Reason why he's more difficult than the others is because of his uncloak bell announces his presence and makes it so he has to be good in the chase to compensate.
    6. Pig: Slightly going more towards moderate difficulty because of her crouch/surprise attack. She plays simple but slightly harder to use her ability because survivors can hear you about to lunge giving them a running start. Find survivors, chase them, down them, trap them, hook them.
    7. Hag: Moderately difficult because of her movement speed. But her traps make up in difficulty because of how easy it is to place them and teleport.
    8. Myers: At the beginning of the game, it can be hard to use his ability. But once you get to tier 2 it gets easier. Filling up the meter is all about knowing the right time to do it. Pretty easy to just stare at people but hard to get them to stay in line of sight, unless you get the jump on them.
    9. Legion: Although his speed make him harder to catch people, his ability makes it easy to hit people.
    10. Clown: Throwing his bottles in the right spot can be really hard to hit at first. But once you practice a lot, you can get pretty good at cutting off paths with gas to hit survivors.
    11. Spirit: She can be pretty hard to play/get used to. You have to learn when to use your ability and when NOT to use your ability.
    12. Hillbilly: Hillbilly is easy to play but HARD to his people with his ability.
    13. Huntress: Trying to hit people with hatches can be pretty hard at first and even when your good. Knowing when the best opportunity is. Wither the survivor will juke or not. Plus your hum radius gives you away to survivors so they know when to hide. But when you do master Huntress, you won't regret it.
    14. Nurse: We all know Nurse is the hardest killer to play in the game. Her add-ons can mess with your muscle memory when playing her. She's also the slowest killer so you have to precisely blink near people in order to hit them. She is also EXTREMELY easy to juke when you first play her. Mainly, her ability takes A LOT of practice. Even if you play nothing but Nurse for a week, that's still not enough practice for her. It took me a MONTH to get good with her. But once you practice that much, she is the best killer in the game.

Wait dude you misread it. The 1 is hardest and it goes down to easiest.. I should have clarified. So Billy is the hardest in the easy tier. I meant to put Nurse as the hardest in intermediate, and the hardest is Huntress. I got a little confused myself, my bad. I still think using Legion CORRECTLY (like Tru3, Monto and so on...) is hard. And Wraiths mindgames with the bell, in case you didn't know are actually difficult to understand. At a T/L wall, he can double back similarly to the Pig and against smart survivors, he can just go straight if they expect a double back which messes up their heads. At loops in general, he can do something similar. Jungle gyms are his weakness.

You mean ability wise? I think the easiest would be the Hillbilly, and Legion just from observation if you're not too lazy to look around for people when they're not in plain view. Add Spirit to the list if you understand chasing and play of survivors.
Ive played as killers less than 15 times total, and only tried 3 killers maybe 4 but spirit is who I will main. I get too many D/Cs with her because I don't have to camp or tunnel cocky players to beat them at their games. I just wait for them where I know they're headed and grab em off a gen or slap them when they try to do a tiny bit of self care. Then sip the imaginary tea and see if I get incoming hate. I'm a low rank killer who tends to get cocky depipped swf trying to boost their new friend and sometimes they get too cocky to the point where they get too predictable. Highly recommend Spirit if you understand chases intermediate-advanced level, even if you're not a high rank player.

    1. Huntress
    2. Spirit
    3. Myers
    4. Legion (nobody except Tru3 plays him correctly.)
    5. Clown

Wait, you're serious about your list? That looked like a clever bait. Wraith harder than billy, trapper harder than nurse, legion hard and mentioning tru3 as the only killer who plays legion right? Please tell me you're joking, that looks like a lot of memes compiled into one list.

Billy is straightforward. I literally just said I forgot about people like Monto playing Legion right. Trapper takes a ######### ton of predicting. No reward though. Wraith needs mindgames to secure a hit.

So mastering billys chainsaw takes the least time out of all killers to master. Are you sure about that??
Is that the reason why there are often threads asking how to control billys saw?

Legion is not hard to play. He literally ignores every rule and counterplay. Hold W and M1 to the nearest auraread. If theres none left, hold W and M1 to the last survivor.

Which mindgames does wraith need to secure a hit?

Ah got it. Yeah its confusing since we list from easy to hard, but then you go from hard to easy in the tier.
I still would disagree with some picks. Billy takes a lot of continous effort to play well and missing 1-2 chainsaws can cost you the game. I dont know how hard it is to nail survivors with a controller, but with the mouse, its all but easy. Apart from huntress, i spent the most time perfecting billys chainsaw and theres nothing that comes close to the difficulty of nailing survivors around long loops and adjust to dodges in the span of milliseconds.
I have a theory why people think he is "easy". And that is, because its so hard to hit survivors, that people actually gave up and dont bother to learn it at all and call him mastered when they use it for mobility.
Mobility takes 0 skill indeed though. Its hitting survivors up close which is decently hard. Not to mention midrange saws around loops, which is imo the hardest mechanical skill in the game (Huntress flicking through small slits could top that...)
You can do the billy test. Play shack, start the chainsaw outside the entrance and turn 90-180° to the window. Tell me how often you hit the window. You have to get that down 8/10 times or else you're throwing.
Maybe i have high standards for billy, but if we're talking about mastery, billy is hard man.

Do you talk about wraith mindgame using his power? Without addons, i find his power pretty useless in a chase. Couldnt use it effectively to counter palletloops like pig, but maybe i havent tried enough. Does that work without addons? If yes, i'll reconsider my list. So far he seems like the most basic of killers. Uncloak for a free hit, then chase normally. Thats his whole plan, maybe a bodyblock while uncloaking.

I actually do really well as Billy, he's my main right now and I understand his chainsaw extremely well. Spirit is way too hard and I've yet to buy the Hag DLC. With Wraith, he is actually viable with proper perks and no addons. If you time it precisely and mindgame it similarly to Pig, he can actually shut down a loop, addons or not. Always cloak when chasing btw and try to bodyblock. If you don't cloak, you'll lose that pressure in chase. It's extremely difficult to track a cloaked Wraith in chase. More difficult to track then Spirit and that's with her two passive phasing addons. You should try learning it, it's super helpful.

I'll give wraith another shot. I find pigs antiloop just barely strong enough to work and wraiths uncloak is "weaker", so i really doubted that it works, but i'll try again.

Guess everyone is different. I find Spirit relatively easy compared to billy, since there is no mechanical skill involved. She's more about tracking and predictions, which i find pretty easy.
Glad you find billy easy, i mostly see M1llys nowadays who skip his noed part and complain in chat that they hate playing billy because they cant hit ######### :D

Most go for chainsaws on me so I end up forcing them not to by vaulting a window ;) it's the best way to counter Billy, turn them into a m1lly.
