Can't get past the lobby screen/Unable to get into match loading screen for game

SUMMARY OF THE ISSUE:
My friend has been having this issue where he searches for a match either with us or solo and when he gets into the match lobby it's all fine but when everyone is ready and the timer ends he doesn't go into the match loading screen but hes stuck in the lobby/campfire thing until he manually disconnects but that also applies to us where were in an infinite loading screen until he disconnects. What might be the issue or a way to fix this?
