New Map Dead Sands.

The new map Dead Sands is what I was afraid was going to happen, the map is small, it has chances of huge dead zones and the exit gates can be unbelievably close and defendable like forgotten ruins. Maps should be SLIGHTLY survivor sided since it’s all they have other than their perks and items, the map is definitely going to be a killer sided map and a decent killer can get through 1/4 of the pallets in 1 chase alone. imo they need to increase the size of the map slightly and address certain exit gate spawns.

Considering BHVR said they added this map as a "nerf" to the map offering, it being killer-sided seems intentional as a counterbalance to the survivor-sided Forsaken Boneyard.

true but it sets a bad precedent for future maps. If bhvr continues to go on the trend of introducing small killer sided maps with not enough pallets it will become a problem. That’s why current haddonfield and forgotten ruins are one of the most hated maps on the survivor side right now because they’re extreamly small and barely have enough pallets.

There's speculation that they're planning on doing this to more realms too, on Toba Landing and Dead Dawg. Those two maps do not need shack-only variants.
I honestly think a Shack-Only variant in order to nerf a realm is the most boring way possible to go about it. At least add some sort of notable landmark like pre-rework Shelter Woods had. Throw in like a big old pyre covered in skulls or something.

Survivors hate Forgotten Ruins? I'm unaware, because I absolutely despise that map as killer, and I rarely ever get to play it as survivor.
I do agree with this. A map with nothing on it except the usual tiles and shack is really dull. Even if it's just a small thing, every map should have one unique structure on it. A Toba Landing map with alien ruins, or a livestock corral in Glenvale, anything to distinguish them as unique. I hate Rotten Fields because it's just boring to play on for both sides, in my experience.

Oh, so they actually did make it killer sided.
Lol.
But anyways, I agree with @ReverseVelocity . Throwing a killer sided map into the Eyrie realm is a lazy way to balance it. It will likely get the job done and deter survivors from spamming Eyrie offerings, but they should've just reworked the original map again to make it not so overwhelmingly survivor sided.

Would be great to fix the map instead adding coin flip on which side will have bad time.

I'm not even against throwing in a slightly more killer-sided map to balance a realm, just make it an interesting map at least.

What was it 3 attempts to balance Boneyard and they all seemingly failed to make it feel less frustrating for Killers. So now to equalize Realms it's splitting who gets a favorable map. Bet the Devs won't give Dead Dawg a Survivor Sided map.

lol w tf

maps should be no one sided. They should be balanced as much as possible and having small killer sided maps and massive survivor sided maps isn’t balance.

Which I don't agree with, because they could just nerf the busted map, but at least it's something.

It already is one, Dead Dawg. If the killer doesn't 3-gen, or the survivors save main gen for last, the match is lost.

I'm gonna assume the lack of pallets is blown out of proportion, just like the farm maps that "don't have any."

complaining about 1 map being added that is killer sided to a realm where the other 1 is really survivor sided when map offerings won't guarantee to go to a map of that realm. Especially when Survivors are notorious for using the same 5 map offerings to go to maps that are heavily favored for them. God forbid that there are a few maps that are a little killer sided, especially when you are not facing 20 Nurse's/Blight's/Billy's in a row.
To be honest BHVR hasn't really been good at map layout designs, so yes, maps like Forgotten Ruins could use a few pallets on top level but you only have to focus 2 gens on the top level to force the killer to have to venture into the dungeon. Afterall, Forgotten Ruins has 4 gens in each corner of the map on top level

They better not touch the most perfect and balanced map in dbd, toba landing.

Console player here is there a new map?
1 -
Yes, they're adding a second map to the Eyrie of Crows realm.

Agree with this. Whoever is making these larger balancing decisions has some very bad takes that need to be challenged more. It's like they still haven't figured out that no one enjoys loading up and expecting to lose immediately. I just don't get why they think it's a good idea to make maps massively favor one side or the other.

Thank you for confirming 👍

I would like to argue that this new map is survivor side. First, the map area is comparable to Wrecker's Yard and not much smaller. Second, the pallets are overwhelmingly more connected than in Wrecker's Yard. There is also enough shielding so that even killer opponents such as Huntresses are not impossible to chase. And crucially, the double pallets are by far stronger than those in Greenville. Two palettes that are strong enough to set up mind games by themselves side by side are very reliable during survivor play and a nightmare during killer play.

They said that?
Oof. Are you guys on board with that mindset? We know the map is bad and we know people keep using map offerings to essentially give themselves an advantage, so let's just make a very bad map for them instead of fixing either map offerings or the problem itself, the map.
So when people bring a map offering for forsaken boneyard, there will just be a coin flip if the Survivors have an easy time or the killer does.
I don't get that logic. Sorry.

I think I asked that before, but on what map do you think the killer has an easier time?
1 -
I agree with their logic, but not to this extend. IMO every Realm should have at least two Maps (but better than the Eyrie-map, which is just ugly-looking and a real mess, there was not much effort put into creating it).
But more in a sense that the map ends up the opposite of what the already excisting map is. E.g. I would like to see maps which are more open for The Game, Lerys, Midwich and Hawkins to add variety to the Realm. But making a killer-sided map for a survivor-sided map is not really good, I agree on that. (Especially because Eyrie itself also gets nerfed for Survivor)
But hey, since BHVR does not favor either side, we will see a new survivor-sided version of Haddonfield, do we? Since the one we have now is the most killer-sided map and apparently it is a good idea to just make the opposite when favoring one side on a map/realm. :^)

I love it. Wrecking yard 2.0 god bless this makes me wanna take the map offering

I dont think a map or realm should be inherently catered towards one side in particular, as it encourages that side to only pick that map to optimize their loadout for the best possible result.
Erie is undeniably very survivor favoured and instead of tackeling that problem they just make it a coin flip of who gets screwed over. Thats not a good decision in my opinion. Same with Haddonfield. They should not just add a different version that is similar in strenght to the very old version but balance the map better.

They're already making map offerings only a 20% chance, and not stack anymore, so this reasoning that it's to dilute the map pool as an offering nerf feels off.
