Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

Lightborn is what I like to call a "convenience" perk. It doesn't *directly* help you win games. It doesn't *directly* help you win chases. It's just nice to not be blinded, or have to worry about being blinded.

But it has a hidden power that most people aren't aware of. It does more than save you some time looking for flashies when you're about to pick someone up (which still isn't that great imo.) Lightborn's TRUE power is in facilitating tunneling.

If you down someone out in the open, there's NOTHING that ANYONE can do to get this person out of your grasp aside from trying to sabo a hook which oftentimes just results in a trade anyway. It's better for them to trade if the person on your shoulder is on deathhook, but still, trading a carry for a down is not that bad for the Killer.

A lot of low MMR Killers see Lightborn as naught more than a convenient/luxury perk to slot in if you can somehow afford the space, but in reality its ability to facilitate tunneling one person out of the game mustn't be understated and is (in my opinion) where the perk's true power truly shines.

However, this is all just on paper. In reality, the time you spend searching around for flashies isn't that much, and it opens up a perk slot for a potential chase perk, so even if you get blinded and drop the Survivor, you can reacquire them (or someone else) much more efficiently. Therefore Lightborn is in reality quite useless, as simply looking around for 5 seconds or even just facing a wall makes flashlight saves nearly impossible. Lightborn gains extra value against flashbangs which aren't countered by looking at a wall, but it's also only possible because of a bug that allows survivors to clip into the Killer during the pick-up animation, and I don't want to rate a perk based on its interaction with bugs, so Lightborn stays for the most part in the trash bin.
