Kill Switch update: We have temporarily Kill Switched the Forgotten Ruins Map due to an issue that causes players to become stuck in place. The Map will remain out of rotation until this is resolved.

BHVR's weird priority with nerfing Gap-shots instead of maintaining collision

Gap-shots have been a staple of skill expression for the Deathslinger since his release.
As of late, Deathslinger has been getting many nerfs that only affect the top performing Caleb Quinn players. Who enjoy trickshots and displaying their skill over screenshotting their 4k.
These "Nerfs" happen to be obvious changes to the maps that are meant to stop Deathslinger players from exploring and utilizing the few holes left in this game's walls.

I'll be showing some examples in a moment.
Yes, I'm involved in a community with a large quantity of the best Deathslinger's and it's a common opinion that going for gap-shots is throwing the game.

Not only does spearing survivors through tight gaps tax your precision, positioning, and mentality. It is impractical in most cases.

Many gap-shots in various jungle gyms can only net you an injure due their position.
Many gap-shots are so tight they completely rely on timing to hit while also requiring a high-level of precision.
Most gap-shots are impractical simply because of your positioning after hitting a gap-shot. Hitting these shots typically entail you are going to be have to walk around the wall you just shot through, reload, then find your survivor across the map with a 110 killer.

Compare getting a "free injure" by hitting a gap-shot with Deathslinger to many other strong killers. Nurse/Blight/Spirit Can achieve many free injures and downs and have much better options with following through a second hit to that survivor or traversing to another.
Not that I'm complaining that these killers are stronger. Even a simple m1 killer like trapper would just simply continue the chase.
I feel like I could put a lot of killers on the spotlight in comparison to really solidify that hitting gap-shits is simply a skill expression, and far from optimal, but I will end that here.

With that established, I'm going to show a few examples of what they've nerfed. Then go over why they BHVR is doing it.

1. With the release of the Tokyo Ghoul, They recently added an out-of-place stone block to stop Deathslinger from headshotting survivors

2. You used to be able to hit through this stairwell in RPD. (You still can but not from the ground-level, where depicted)

3. Shooting over the AC units is no longer possible

4. Shooting over this balcony on RPD is also no longer working. (Note: in the RE 2v8 mode many of these RPD shots are still possible due to them using an earlier version of this map).

5. Yamoaka Shack | This hole used to not have a drape on the other side. I hit it many times before they added it.
Not only that but after the cloth was added, it was still shootable from one side. Nowadays it doesn't go through either way.

There's several other RPD specific shots they nerfed but we'll look at another realm.

6. The snowcat in Ormond has several open areas that Deathslinger could shoot through. Nowadays there is an invisible wall that was added along the ENTIRE BOTTOM OF IT.

There are so many shots I could also I could also showcase that had no reason to be nerfed.

Disclaimer: There are many gap-shots that shouldn't have stayed in the game. There were a few shots on Midwich and Autohaven that went through missing textures. I understand the sentiment of removing gap-shots that were unfair.

-

Now that I've shown and explained why this is very unfair to the committed Deathslinger mains. I'm going to explain why BHVR is even doing this.

They are simply, frankly, incredibly biased towards the new-player experience because they are the most exploitable for purchasing in-game cosmetics with Auric Cells :D
While also being the most likely to quit the game early on because they were hit by something they didn't understand immediately

I'm sure that comes off as rash and distasteful. However, the amount of L updates the devs have put out and the lack of TRUE engagement and care for their own community has left me bitter.

Thank you very much for reading my post. I'm sure it'll get ignored or at most, many people telling me that these shots were removed fairly because they just look forward when they run and don't have the game sense to counter a trickshot.

Have a good evening lads,

Im pretty sure that stone brick on eyrie was added because it gave survivors visibility of the killer. I guess that indirectly nerfed slinger

i started playing Slinger because all the shots you can hit, as shown in the post. its sad to see these gap-shots nerfed, hitting said gap-shots is part of the fun and there are some shots thats hard to master. if you are going to nerf these shots, please say in the patch notes and stop leaving us in the dark

IMO gap shots were the only reason why slinger warranted his existence next to Huntress (and why on top-level plays these 2 killers were somehow equal in power). If they are really actively removing it… Why even keep slinger in the game? Big L

Sounds like this discussion is being swept into the archive. Just more shadownerfs to one of the last saucy killers in the game

    No fun allowed.

As survivor, I think it's enjoyable to see a Deathslinger land an unexpected shot. And it looks fun to do; these kinds of mechanics are fun to play around with in games.

Well, those are some next level pointless changes.

Poor grandpa, like he was not nerfed enough.

I'm very glad that after this post, The team was able to fix the RPD air vents. Kudos!

Any updates on the other collision issues?

    Thanks,
